PRODUCTION INFORMATION

Manufacturer: Visanj T’shkali
Affiliation: Closed-Market
Model: Lock-Tight Starship Detention System
Modularity: None
Production: Semi-Unique
Material(s) / Component(s):
SPECIAL FEATURES:
  • Ideal for smaller-sized starships that lack dedicated detention facilities and use by pirates, bounty hunters, military and law enforcement, etc.
  • Capable of immobilizing a single detainee, including Force-users, rendering them securely detained until they can be delivered to law enforcement.
  • When not in use, the containment field is housed in retractable compartments, and can be placed into existing starships as an after-market piece or else included into newly-constructed ships’ design.
  • Integrated force field emitter prevented the field’s disruption by nearby technology and vice versa, while sonic dampeners prevented those outside from hearing prisoners’ ranting and cries, while prisoners themselves could not hear outside conversations.
  • Force shackles integrated into the system monitor prisoners’ life signs, can rotate prisoners, and deliver powerful stun charges able to render detainees unconscious temporarily.
STRENGTHS:
  • Can restrain humanoid prisoners, even Force-users, causing them to be immobilized, weakened, and pacified.
  • Integrated sonic dampening field quiets the prisoner to others and prevents their eavesdropping on nearby conversations.
  • Force field generator prevents mutual disruption from or to nearby technologies.
  • Constantly monitors prisoners’ life signs, alerting captors if the prisoner’s health is jeopardized.
WEAKNESSES:
  • Prolonged exposure inside the containment field can result in lasting, even permanent, brain damage.
  • Even short-term exposure can result in nerve damage, headaches, nausea, or disorientation and numbness, meaning if used on a friendly figure (such as a crewman gone temporarily mad) can be left in such a depleted state for several days following.
  • Especially physically powerful beings can still move and potentially escape the field.
  • Containment field only works for humanoid prisoners, meaning non-humanoid species must be restrained using alternative methods.
  • Failure of the isolation force field can cause disruption of nearby systems and technologies and vice versa, potentially compromising the field’s effectiveness or else disrupting or disabling nearby systems.
DESCRIPTION:

Not every ship has a brig. Yet, even on small ships, there are times when it becomes necessary to detain an individual, be this a stowaway, an intoxicated or disturbed crewman, or any of a dozen other scenarios spring to mind. So when such situations arise, the Lock-Tight system provides the solution. Able to restrain and isolate a single individual, suspending them inside a containment field by means of specially programmed force shackles it renders detained persons immobile, floating a few centimeters in the air. Even Force-users are temporarily severed from the Force, with mild electrical shocks disrupting concentration and physically weakening prisoners while they’re contained inside. The shackles monitor detainee’s life signs, and can rotate them – causing disorientation or enabling them to be safely inspected, and can even deliver stun charges, capable of rendering them temporarily unconscious. When not in use, the system stows away into special compartments – out of sight, out of mind. An integrated dedicated power supply ensures the system continues to work even the starship experiences an outage, and a force field and sound dampening field isolates the containment field’s effects, preventing it being disrupted by nearby technology or causing disruption to those technologies in return and isolating the prisoner in a ‘cone of silence’ making it impossible to be heard or hear outside of the field. This sound dampening field can be turned on or off as needed to allow for interrogations, etc.

It should be noted the Lock-Tight cannot be used on non-humanoid beings, and those with especially powerful physicality might be able to break free. Likewise, if the isolation force field becomes disabled, the containment might be disrupted or even deactivated by interference from nearby technology, or worse could cause disruption or deactivation of nearby systems potentially creating serious issues aboard ship. Prolonged exposure can result in serious lasting, even potentially permanent brain or nerve damage, and even temporary exposure can leave detainees feeling nauseous, disoriented, fatigued, subject to painful headaches or numbness and loss of fine-motor skills. Now, for a true enemy, a captain or crew may not have much remorse, but if used to temporarily restrain a crewman suffering from space madness or the effects of some powerful drug these concerns are more serious, as the intent is to prevent them from harming themselves or others, not to hurt them.
