OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a transparent version of a pre-existing species
  • Canon: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Links: Based on L. ferra (SWRPC), which in turn is based on the veshok tree; this is based as well on the succulent Haworthia cooperi
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Lignis ferra (variant paellucidus)
  • Origins: L. ferra was crafted from the Veshok species from Mandalore, altered by Sylva Vitae. This subspecies is further altered by Sylva Vitae.
  • Other Locations: N/A
  • Classification: Transparent hardwood tree
  • Average Growth Cycle: 6 months from seed to harvestable & mature; can live for hundreds of years
  • Viability: Requires a 'standard' biome for trees. Yavin 4, Mandalore, Endor, etc. are possible and viable locations. Increased nutrient & water intake allows for rapid growth.
  • Description: The L. ferra var. paellucidus tree is physically similar to the standard L. ferra tree, with thick hardy leaves and extremely dense wood, but the largest difference is that the entire trunk is transparent - this includes the bark, cambium, sapwood, heartwood, and pith. The rough bark is only surface-deep; beneath it is tough, dense, slightly aromatic wood.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Average Height: 50-200 m tall
  • Average Length: 4-9 m diameter trunk, branches can spread to be 40-150 m wide
  • Color: Almost entirely transparent trunk & sap, green leaves that turn reddish in the winter season
  • Nutritional Value: None
  • Toxicity: None
  • Other Effects: The wood is extremely dense and requires specially hardened tools to harvest. When carved into thin strips, can be used as a slightly aromatic incense. As the wood is transparent, it can be used as a covering for other plants while permitting UV light, heat, and warmth to transfer through.
  • Distinctions: Almost identical to the L. ferra strain (which itself is based on the veshok tree), L. ferra var. paelludicus is its almost completely transparent brother. Its ghostly trunks are visually at odds with its normal green leaves.
Strengths:
  • Significantly faster & more productive growth (than the veshok tree, identical to L. ferra)
  • Durable & adaptable to most tree-hospitable environments
Weaknesses:
  • Not biologically compatible with normal veshok trees or standard L. ferra trees
  • Without careful cultivation, can quickly outgrow itself and consume itself in search of nutrient deposits
  • A smaller ecological niche means it is more difficult to grow in extreme environments than other hardwood trees
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Based on the L. ferra tree, this variant was crafted to provide a similar level of hardness and durability, while also providing a translucent light-permeable option. This may be used for windows, or spaceworthy panels, or other similar uses, provided that the wood is properly processed. Otherwise identical to the L. ferra tree, this variant is also based on the veshok tree of Mandalore.
