Sylus Ren, a powerful disciple of Ren, almost killed Jend-Ro Quill during the cleansing of Mustafar. Quill picked up Sylus' lightsaber and later used the Force to heal the bled crystal from crimson to white. The kyber crystal subsequently adopted a sky-blue coloration.
Quill began carrying Sylus' lightsaber as a secondary weapon after a tense duel where he used both his own saber and Kelos Windspeaker's. As the Windspeaker saber was a useful relic, Quill opted for something more mundane instead. The redeemed saber had some key differences compared to his own saber: it was vulnerable to shorting out if submerged, but it could slice through cortosis ore and alloys without trouble due to its expensive, difficult-to-engineer lack of dimetris circuits. More than once, Quill had to shake his head in admiration for the Ren he'd killed on Mustafar: the boy had created an ambitious, high-quality weapon.
