Lightsaber Arts and Theory: Lesson One.

Lightsaber Arts and Theory.
Holographic Training Environment,
Er6tw3E.png
Today's lesson in the saber arts was designed to give the Students of the Order something of a different perspective from which to learn; rather than sticking to the typical dojo or classrooms of the Silver Rest, Veiere Arenais had instead opted to reserve the use of the Holographic Imaging System, using the emitters and placing them in various corners of the outside courtyard in order to convey a simulated Arena known to Geonosis, a place that once held a battle known to the Jedi Order, as one that set off the beginning of the legendary "Clone Wars". The only difference today however, was that there were no crowds, nor any real danger to those whom would be making use of the Arena floor for their training lesson.

Standing in the center of the room, Veiere Arenais awaited the rest of the students whom had signed up to attend the scheduled class, as well as any additional 'late entree's' or tag-along's that might have chosen to follow. The subject of today's lesson was to cover the marks of contact, a series of lightsaber blows, no matter the chosen form, that were well known to all Jedi whom would ascend the rank of Jedi Padawan, to that of a Knight or Master.

All other members of the Jedi Alliance are welcome.

Ura walked towards the Holographic Training Environment, her lightsaber slightly coming out from under her forearm. Everything looked good, but she had to be sure. She was getting ready for lightsaber training with [member="Veiere Arenais"] . She honestly wondered what it would be like, and drew the odd saber back into her arm. The Lervon wondered how others would react to how she wielded a lightsaber? Either way, she finally made it on time to something.

The Padawan walked in, amazed by the chosen environment, or as amazed as a face that was only eyes could look. It oddly reminded her of home, back on Yurb. The desert world that was modeled here definitely lifted her spirits a bit. She then nodded to Arenais, giving a slight bow and speaking in the monotone speech of all Lervon. "Hello, Master Arenais."

While stardust was skilled within saber combat, she wanted her daughter to learn the different styles in which stardust was not acquainted with. Entering the little arena stardust stopped and took a deep breath as she looked around and chuckled to herself

almost a exact replica, doesnt beat the real thing though

She approached [member="Veiere Arenais"] and bowed as did her daughter respectfully

been too long old friend

Rush rush rush! Lori was gaining the habit of being lost. But it wasn't her fault! She didn't grow up here, she'd hardly been here long and she had been really distracted. So much so that she lost track of time! It also didn't help that part way to the class, she remembered that she had forgotten her lightsaber and had to go ALL the way back to her dorm to fetch it and then head out to the arena.

The hologram was impressive and similar to the ones she had come across on some of the larger Mandalorian vessels. "Awesome..." She spotted her Dad [member="Veiere Arenais"] , as well as [member="Stardust Solus Skirae"] and [member="Ura Iolar"] . "I'm here." Not that they didn't see that. But she still felt as though she should say it. Lori held her lightsaber in hand, but didn't ignite it. This was to be her first lesson and one that she needed to learn in case she encountered Sith again. No doubt that was a big possibility.

Somehow, he had expected more than the two Students to show up to today's lesson, though the arrival of [member="Stardust Solus Skirae"] wasn't at all displeasing, for they two had not seen one another in quite a while. [member="Ura Iolar"] greeted Veiere, to which Veiere offered a bow of his head in formal acknowledgement and having done so, smiled encouragingly "Hello again, Ura". His Daughter, [member="Loreena Arenais"] would soon make her way into the holographic projection, much to the appreciation of her Father whom seemed a little starved of interest within his subjects lately.

"It's good to see you as well, Master Skirae" He spoke first to Star in formal title whilst in front of the younger pair, though he'd only do so once to encourage formality in their future interactions, his body-language soon proving a little more casual in their standing as his shoulders relaxed and he offered something of a chuckle under his breath; "How've you been my friend?", perhaps rhetorical, though offered out of consideration and friendship.

Veiere soon turned back to the two Padawan and gestured to their surroundings; "Clearly I had expected something of a bigger turn-out today than just the two of you, however it does offer us something of a unique experience to honor those of legend who've returned to the Force in an age long since passed" Veiere had admired his history subjects as a student himself, and it wasn't uncommon to fall back upon those experiences in the lessons he taught to his attendee's.

"As you know today's subject is Lightsaber Arts and Theory, and today we're going to be going over the Marks of Contact with the help of some friends!" four Training Droids would appear behind the Jedi Master with a distorted flash of blue energy as the holo-emmitters were interrupted by their arrival. "Worry not however, they will not be set to attack" He smirked, "Not this time, atleast". The Droids would begin to move however, making their way further into the center of the arena where they would form a line and turn back to face towards the group with fair distance between them for the practice of swordsmanship.

It wouldn't be difficult to know what was coming next; "Everyone find yourselves a position opposite your new training partners".

Nida had arrived on time, but the Padawan found that she couldn’t quite enter the training area just yet. The healing arts were her forte, where she felt comfortable practicing and expanding her skill. Combat was not, and had never been a strength of hers. Such was life when you had four older siblings ahead of you, all rambunctious in their own way and aggressively coming to your defense whenever needed.

They hadn’t been there when the Sith ravaged New Holstice. It was finally time for Nida to step out of the shadows of others, and learn to defend herself properly.

Why were her palms sweating already? Nerves and teenage angst were one hell of a cocktail. Nida rubbed her hands down the length of her robe, hoping that she’d still manage to grip her training saber after all. Taking a deep breath, the young Zeltron shifted her way out from behind one of the temple columns where she’d been lingering, and made her way into the courtyard. There were others here as well—she envied the bright eyed [member="Loreena Arenais"], for the young woman appeared far more comfortable here. There was a sense of familiarity around the Twi’lek woman [member="Stardust Solus Skirae"] and her daughter, one that Nida couldn’t quite place. The Jedi made from seemingly sentient sand was a new visage to her as well, but [member="Ura Iolar"]’s presence served as a proud reminder of the spectrum of species the Jedi incorporated.

Finally, the Master. “I apologize for being late, Master Arenais.” Nida spoke a bit quicker than she had to, with a hasty bow to [member="Veiere Arenais"] that caused her saber hilt to slip from her waist to the ground. Cheeks burning, she quickly plucked the hilt from the ground and scrambled into formation, opposite from one of the training droids.

Ura looked at Master [member="Veiere Arenais"] , and gave a nod. She walked up to one of the droids, and her right hand seemed to absorb into her arm. A Force Barrier also seemed to form instinctually around her right arm, and the lightsaber emitter popped out of where her right hand was. Before doing anything else though, the padawan noticed [member="Nida Perl"] walk in and apologize to Master Arenais. The Lervon was happy that she wasn't the only one prone to being late here. She chuckled lightly, knowing the master wouldn't care before going ahead and igniting her foil-like saber, trying to remember the points of contact.

Sky knew next to nothing when it came to combat. She could dodge pretty well, and when she did pick up on something, could do it with grace and fluidity. But she lacked power, as well as the offensive or defensive talent that most had. She basically only tried to incorporate her talent for dancing into it. And that only partially worked.

As she walked in, she realized her mistake, she was already late...again. Never on time was she? She curled her robe around her again, "Stupid newbie." she muttered to herself just before she heard [member="Nida Perl"] apologize to [member="Veiere Arenais"] for being late, well, at least she wasn't the only one. There sure was some interesting people here...and feelings.

Sky walked over somewhat towards Viere and bowed, "I am so sorry." she didn't say anything else and just rushed off to the side so that she could wait for everything to begin. She had a blue saber with her, one that wasn't even made by her, it was on loan and was basically a practice saber. One she held in both hands under her robe while she walked over and stood opposite the droids, hearing him mention getting into a position.

She hesitated, and tossed off her robe, pointless irritating thing it'd just be in the way. Instead just wearing the lighter white sleeveless shirt underneath. "That's better." she muttered tossing her hair back and holding the saber in one hand. Barely at all in a proper stance, she looked more like she was ready to hightail it then fight. Still, the lightsaber was in front of her and pointed at the enemy, and her feet were placed so it was easy to move and give her plenty of balance still. But those were about the only good things that could be said about it.

Lori nodded as she listened to [member="Veiere Arenais"] . She wondered how many knew that he was her Dad. It wasn't as though she'd ever give out her full name to anyone. There was no shame behind being his daughter. It was just that there were people around that didn't like their family. And that meant that they could be targeted. Not that that would happen HERE. But still, it was her habit to hide her identity, much as it was her Mom's habit to hide her Force sensitivity.

At the sight of the training droids, Lori grinned broadly. Oh this was going to be fun!! She waited until she was given the signal before she'd think of igniting her lightsaber. Right now she just held onto it in he right hand and readied herself. Her feet were shoulder width apart, just in case they were to start within moments. Her knees were bent as well so that she was fully at the ready. Learning to fight with lightsabers was very new to her.

[member="Ura Iolar"] was correct, Veiere didn't mind so much about late-comers, though that didn't mean that he wouldn't appreciate a student showing their manners and apologizing for being so. He smiled as he nodded in response to [member="Nida Perl"]'s arrival, gesturing for her to follow suit alongside the others, a hologram appearing for her to line up in front of. He was about to further guide the class, when [member="Sky"] followed suit and appeared among the late-comers, causing Veiere to chuckle at her anxious entrance before sending her off in the same manner to form the line. Each and every Jedi student, joined by the appearance of a training droid phasing on into the simulation.

"Right then..." Veiere grinned, happy to proceed with the lesson. "Our first mark of contact is a lightsaber strike that's taught in Shii-Cho, the very first of fighting forms taught to students. This strike is aimed at the wrist or hand and is used to disarm your opponent" Veiere stepped forward to join the line, his hand waving and triggering the appearance of his own training droid. The ignition of his lightsaber following with a loud snap-hiss of green vibrant power coming to life and forming the blade flowing through and being channeled through his hilts emitters.

"Allow me to introduce you to Sun Djem" Veiere exclaimed, his lightsaber sweeping out before him as he moved to take his stance, the blade aiming skyward; the droid soon taking it's stance, triggered by the readiness of it's sentient opponent. "Your droids will take form when you're ready, and then your aim is to produce a strike like so..." Veiere soon stepped forward and swung his lightsaber down in a quick diagonal slash, striking the droids wrist and causing it to drop it's weapon.

"This is the preferred outcome of any battle" he explained, the droid's position resetting automatically, blade returned to it's hands whilst Veiere turned to look to the others. "If you are able to disarm your opponent, in most cases your fight will be concluded without lives taken. For any Jedi, this is your priority. We only injure if we are forced to do so by our foes we meet in the field of combat".

Brigh watched, she was still finding her way around the different saber styles, heck he mother hadnt taken her yet to get a saber for stardust felt she wasnt ready enough to earn the crystal. Stardust nodded to her friend making a note to speak later personally as she stepped off to watch everyone and have brigh listen in

this is the way jedi fight, rather then how I do they prefer to disarm and take their opponent to justice, it can be just as devastating to the enemy as my way

She said to brigh who nodded before turning her attention back to the training. Stardust smiled and placed her hands behind her back

Sky watched as [member="Veiere Arenais"] began to demonstrate, first with a disarming strike. She vaguely mimicked him as he called it Sun Djem, prepared, and then hit against the droids wrist with a diagonal slash. She stayed away from her droid at first, preforming the same move, and then altering it slightly, so that she was ready to try it from a different angle.

The Zeltron breathed in and out adjusting her hair and shirt and repeating the strike again just one more time, before stepping forwards, she entered her stance, this time a mimicry of what she saw the teacher do, and watched as the droid also entered a stance, she ran through the steps in her mind and struck down...and proceeded to actually miss the droid entirely. She leapt back almost instinctively, but jumped forwards again with the blade coming upwards at an angle, managing to slice at the wrist this time to make it drop the saber.

"Oh...does that count?" she asked herself furrowing her brow as she stepped back and deactivated her saber for now, she wasn't sure if they were supposed to just repeat the method, or just test it out. Either way she had a general idea of how to do it, just had to make sure she actually applied it right. She looked around at the other Padawans to see how they did it.

Ura listened carefully to [member="Veiere Arenais"] and got into a position to strike at the droid. Aim for the hand. Aim for the hand. She too a breath the slashed at the droid, only to watch its entire arm fall. She eepped and deactivated her lightsaber as she quickly tried to make the arm stick back on the the droid. "Please don't be mad. Please don't be mad," she repeated in the her whispery sounding language or Lerdos, and got more frustrated as she couldn't reattach the arm. Why did she have to do that?

[member="Sky"] [member="Stardust Solus Skirae"] [member="Loreena Arenais"] [member="Nida Perl"]

Shii-Cho, Sun Djem. It was like learning Mandalorian. Why couldn't everyone speak basic! Or use basic terms! The last thing that she needed was to become disarmed herself or worse because she confused the words. Lori focused on the basic explanation though, followed by the visual example that [member="Veiere Arenais"] gave.

She ignited her lightsaber, special in that it used a Daghee crystal which gave it a zigzag edge at the end of it. The colour was a nice light blue. Would her blade be able to cut as cleanly as a straight edge? Oh yes it could! She just hadn't really tried it before.

At the moment her opponent didn't even move. Though this was probably on purpose. It merely just readied itself as she brought her blade up in a 'ready' position. Then she cut from up high, moving her blade diagonally until it made contact with the wrist and disarmed the training droid. Well that was easy. More than likely the level of difficulty was going to increase quite a bit once they get the basics down. First thing was first though. They needed to have the basics memorized with their bodies so that it'd be instinctual.

Veiere studied those whom practices the Sun Djem strike, his brows lifting a little as he realized he'd made a slight error. 'That's a little embarrassing' he thought, watching as the students did as he had shown them and aimed to strike at the sword hand of their sparring partner, their training droids. "Something I should clarify, as I've slipped up..." Veiere admitted to his students, "Sun Djem is designed to disarm, as I said, though without damaging the one weilding the sword. The strike is aimed at the hilt itself, where as I have been silly and demonstrated what was to be the next mark of contact, Cho Mai".'

"A little embarassing, but perhaps my age is showing" Veiere grinned, trying to make light of his mistake. Mistakes were the best way to learn in his experience, but that didn't mean you felt any less foolish for it. "So let's be clear. The first strike where you all targeted the wrist, is Cho Mai. It's more aggressive and will often end in amputating the hand...-As you've all practiced this, without further confusion, we'll practice Sun Djem...".

Stepping forward and positioning himself before his training droid, Veiere moved to strike out at the droids sword hand, this time targeting the hilt and with a horizontal sweep of his blade, cut the holographic weapon in half, forcing the droid to step away in submission.

Turning to the students, Veiere bowed his head apologetically. "This was meant to be the first we practiced. My apologies once more. Go on and practice, if you will".

I'm an idiot. I slipped up and mixed up the first two strikes. Sorry guys, but here's a guide for future info you're all welcome to use!

Stardust watched, observing her friends teachings with a smile on her face, felt like old times to this twilek...didnt have to worry about anything but practicing the force.

Eyes turned to ura, she seemed frantic to pur the arm back on even if she couldnt, stardust slowly approached reaching out with the force and lifted the arm up

you've made a mistake, but not all mistakes are bad, some are good learning experiences for the future

She moved to the droid, reaching to shut it down and then put a hand on ura

remember the mistake, learn from it, correct it and go again

She smiled after that and motioned to go again stepping back

Ura continued to try and replace the arm until she saw the Force surround it, and heard a voice behind her. It was [member="Stardust Solus Skirae"] . The Force around Ura conveyed her worry, but it began to fade and Stardust spoke. She reassured the Padawan that mistakes could be learned from. The young Lervon nodded, getting ready and reigniting her blade, also bringing the Force Barrier back around her arm. She closed her eye before raising the blade and taking another slash, this time slicing into the weapon using what [member="Veiere Arenais"] had told them all. The sand-like being's eyes showed her happiness with the result as she deignited her saber.

"Yes!"

Sky cocked her head as the teacher mentioned an error, she looked at the hilt of her weapon as he explained what Sun Djem really was supposed to be, and they did something called Cho Mai, the words of which she repeated a few times while thinking about the act of using the weapon in that way. Though the idea of removing a persons hand wasn't pleasant of course.

Sun Djem sounded much nicer, and seemed better when he showed it as well. Though, perhaps not always possible, she'd much prefer to use it. After having learned a little better from her first attempt, Sky went to do it again this time after the hilt, not the hand, it went much smoother. She could learn quickly enough from practice. Though that didn't mean she was battle ready, just that she had the general act down now.

Having corrected himself and proceeded to study his students as they moved to practice the Sun Djem strike, Veiere was relieved to note that this batch of students were rather forgiving. In these lessons that one taught to the learners of the Order, there could be all kinds of attendees, some of which were more likely to make fun of, or challenge a Master's experience for making a simple mistake such as slipping up on the names of specific moves. With Cho Mai, and Sun Djem out of the way now however, their lesson would continue to the third strike once they'd all completed their practices against the training droids.

"Cho Sun is the next strike we're going to practice. You all know now that Cho Mai targets the wrist of a swordsman, and like it, Cho sun also targets the arm and is an amputating blow" Veiere stepped forward and once more his training droid stepped forward to greet him in stance. The Jedi Master then quickly moved to side-step around the target, swinging his blade out across the bicep of the droid. The Lightsaber did not cut through the target, though had it been at full frequency, there would have been one less limb attached to it's torso.

"Keep in mind, the loss of the arm is better than the loss of the life entirely. We don't look to injure people in such ways if we can avoid these things...-But it could certainly be the lesser of two evils, as opposed to being forced to kill our opponents in combat".

Not again...

Kiran could've sworn that he had a dream where he started to be the first one to every lesson that a Master was giving out. And then he realized that pipe dreams were just that. There would come a day when Kiran Arlos would arrive on time...

Today was not that day...

Luckily, Kiran had been practicing his saber sword technique, not that he was no great fighter as of this moment. But just the fact that he was probably not as far behind as most would've thought. Good thing for him Kiran had arrived just as Master Arenais began talking about what they were going to do next.

The Jedi Padawan watched Veiere closely his stance, footing even arm placement as he was before the droid. Kiran noted how exactly maneuvering the blade across. While the force from what he gathered was the Jedi's most prized possession. He knew that the lightsaber was a weapon of a Jedi and considered their lives to some.

Paying close attention here meant surviving in the galaxy.
