OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Create a gelatinous substance that acts as an artificial extracellular matrix to repair the host's natural ECM that are damaged from wounds to treat a variety of injuries. Gwerin Doeth analogue to Bacta or Kolto that can be used as a first aid and paramedicine tool.

  • Primary Source: Bacta, Kolto.
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
  • Method of Consumption: Injection, topical
  • Average Life: Indefinite (Produces facsimiles of the subject's own tissue)
  • Side Effects:
    • Common:
      • Inflammation
    • Uncommon:
      • Anaphylactic Shock (Non-Gwerin Doeth only)
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Extracellular Matrix Modification
  • Extracellular Matrix Repair
STRENGTHS
  • Biological Manipulation: The Lifegel when coming into contact with the extracellular matrix of a host actively repairs and modifies the matrix into something more resilient and efficient. For example, when applied to a gunshot wound the Lifegel elegantly cauterises the injury to present exsanguination and catalyzes the platelets into rapidly clotting and sealing external or internal wounds to organs within seconds getting a wounded combatant back into the fight with minimal care, homeostasis begins immediately on the application of Lifegel. Any wound can be successfully sealed with adequate amounts of Lifegel applied, even injuries to motor control or sensory nerves can be repaired with application of lifegel.
WEAKNESSES
  • Genetic Incompatibility: Because the DNA of the Extracellular Matrix contained within the lifegel is designed for use by the Extra-galactic Gwerin Doeth species it confers no beneficial effects on the species native to the Human-dominated galaxy as it is incompatible with their genetic makeup. At best it has no effects on their like and at worst it can trigger severe a anaphylactic reaction in most humanoid mammals.
  • Ionizing Radiation: In situations where injuries are created by significant amounts of ionizing radiation or from radioactive ammunition the Lifegel's effects can be delayed or nullified and be rendered ineffective as a result. Complicating its' use in radioactive environments. This can be mitigated somewhat by shielding the gel from exposure to the radiation with dense materials.
  • Limitations: While the lifegel is extremely effective at preventing fatalities from grievous bodily harm, injuries that destroy vital organs such as the destruction of the brain or heart in Humanoids generally will result in death even with the application of lifegel.
DESCRIPTION
Lifegel or "Life water" as it is known as in Tuathi is a transparent odorless gelatinous polymer derived from a plant that was native to the Gwerin Doeth homeworld. The polymer contains genetically modified extracellular matrices that are naturally found in the Gwerin Doeth's cells. When coming into contact with Gwerin Doeth tissue the Lifegel repairs damaged extracellular matrices and bonds with those currently existing and strengthens them. The polymer gel is particularly useful in first aid and paramedicine for treating life threatening injuries caused by gunshot and burns, this makes it an effective treatment for battlefield injuries caused by slugthrowers, shatter guns and all manner of directed energy weapons. In the example of open wounds caused by penetrating injuries through the epidermis and dermis the Lifegel's application causes an almost instantaneous catalyzation of platelet cells leading to immediate clotting cauterising the injury in a rapid expenditure of energy that is cited as being quite painful. This applies to injuries to the skin and internal organs alike preventing ghastly injuries for example, a perforated lung can be field treated effectively with the application of Lifegel.

When applied to burns the introduction of the modified Extracellular Matrix repairs the damaged dermis and epidermis by producing healthy facsimile tissue causing the skin to rapidly blister and push away the destroyed or damaged flesh and reveals it to be replaced with a healthy albeit hairless replacement. Generally speaking, Lifegel can be used to successfully treat upto third degree burns in a field environment which are a common result of directed energy weapons, full-thickness fourth-degree burns generally require a greater level of treatment. There are some limitations on what sort of injuries that lifegel can be used to treat however for example wounds that result in the destruction of the cardio-vascular or central nervous system cannot be treated with Lifegel as these types of catastrophic injuries result in fatality almost immediately. Additionally, as the polymer is derived from a plant that is native to the Gwerin Doeth homeworld it is completely incompatible with the species of the Human-dominated galaxy. There are some barriers to effective use and this includes the extracellular matrices being scambled in the presence of beta and gamma ionising radiation, it should be remembered that Lifegel can be used to treat radiation burns though the matrices do not form inappropriately in contaminated environments.

Lifegel is intended to be used in first aid by paramedics and military personnel to keep a casualty mobile alleviating symptoms of pain and preventing exsanguination until more advanced medical treatment can be sought in a hospital setting. Submersion in a tank of Lifegel is a common treatment for combatants or other people who have received traumatic-type injuries however, it isn't a cure-all and complex diseases can't be remedied with the application of Lifegel alone.
