Private Life on canvas

Iandre nodded slowly, remembering the reports that had spread through the Order.

"Maul took Mandalore before Order Sixty-Six." she said quietly. "The war was pulling the Jedi in a hundred different directions. There were more crises than any of us could answer."

She looked at Nolan with quiet understanding.

"I know it's easy to look back and think, 'If only I'd been there.'" A faint smile touched her lips. "I've had those thoughts too."

She shook her head gently.

"But one Jedi couldn't have been everywhere." she said. "You made the choices you believed were right with the knowledge you had at the time. None of us were given the luxury of seeing the future."

Iandre smiled faintly at his first comment.

"It does sound like your heart belonged to Mandalore as much as it did the Jedi." she observed gently. "There's nothing wrong with that."

Then she tilted her head.

"And...Obi-Wan survived." she said. "Satine's death stayed with him for the rest of his life, but he lived through it."

A thoughtful smile crossed her face.

"Knowing him, he'd probably tell you not to carry guilt over a choice that was never yours to make."

The smile on Iandre's face softened, touched now with a familiar sadness. She looked down at the canvas resting on the easel beside her, the brush still in her hand.

"You don't have to remind me." she said quietly. "I'm a widow."

Her gaze lingered on the painting for another moment before she looked back at Nolan.

"When Rellik died..." she admitted, "it felt like part of me died with him." A faint smile returned, though it carried more acceptance than happiness. "That's one of the reasons I'm sitting here painting instead of carrying a lightsaber. I'm learning how to live with that empty space instead of pretending it isn't there."

Iandre gave him a small, reassuring smile and gently shook her head.

"It's alright." she said quietly. "Grief is a touchy subject for almost everyone."

She let out a slow breath.

"Maybe someday you'll understand..." She caught herself and looked away for a moment. "No...I shouldn't wish that on anybody."

Nolan tightened his expression felling horrible about how their chat was going, he spoke quietly but just enough so landre could hear him “ugh this is not how I saw this going why do I always mess things up”

Iandre smiled reassuringly and gave a small shake of her head.

"Mistakes are a part of life, Nolan." she said gently.

A hint of amusement returned to her expression.

"Besides..." she tilted her head slightly, "how did you imagine a random encounter with a stranger was going to go?"
