PERSONALITY AND BELIEFS
Leo is an observer of people and events, and a seeker of truth above all else, willing to suffer great personal costs in its pursuit.
Personality
- Reserved - neither loud, nor attention-seeking, Leo keeps a lid on his reactions, making him seem distant
- Observant - carefully watches and listens, taking account of everything he notices before acting
- Curious - wants to understand why people do what they do, and what they are hiding
- Stubborn - fails to let things go once interested
- Truth Above All - uncovering the truth is of utmost importance, regardless of personal recognition, and even if justice won't be achieved
- Flawed Systems - Leo does not trust institutions of any kind, whether they be governments, police, media, or other authority figures. While he doesn't reject them, he often works around them rather than with them
- Morality is Shaded Gray - It is not Leo's nature to consider anyone wholly good, or wholly evil. Expecting contradiction in everyone's actions, he is never surprised by it
- No Clean Getaway - Leo accepts that doing the right thing rarely ends in a satisfying result
STRENGTHS
- Observant - notices the tiny details most miss, and reads people without them realizing it
- Steady Emotions - does not escalate needlessly, and maintains his composure even under duress
- Persistent - Leo doggedly sticks with problems and mysteries long after all others have abandoned hope, and is very difficult to discourage
- Social Adaptability - able to operate in multiple social environments, using a multitude of approaches
- Friends in Low Places - has a number of contacts within the less-legal operations of several systems
WEAKNESSES
- Guarded - keeps people at arms length, struggling with being vulnerable
- Uncharismatic - Leo does not inspire others naturally, and finds leading or convincing them difficult
- Hesitant - though a keen observer, Leo can watch too long when action is needed, and gets hung up weighing options
- Moral Ambiguity - sometimes justifies questionable decisions during his pursuit of the truth
- Addiction - Leo is addicted to death sticks, and will suffer serious withdraw symptoms without them after even a short period
- Non-combatant - can point and shoot a blaster, poorly, and heavily relies on wit, charm, evasion, and outside help to escape violent situations
HISTORY
Born in the pits of Corellia's shipyards, Leo Rellor did not come from wealth, and grew up learning how to tell someone was lying long before they'd finished their sentence. He didn't intend to be a journalist, but happened to catch small discrepancies in his clerical work; particularly shipments, passengers, and manifests that did not quite align. Making a habit of asking questions no one was eager to answer, he rapidly became an asset to some people, and a danger to others. Things changed for him when what he'd thought to be a quiet investigation into some conflicting paperwork led to missing workers, and then a trail cold as Hoth. No one wanted to follow it. Not even the police.
It was then than Leo stopped having faith in the authority of institutions surrounding him that claimed to care about the facts, but only sought them out when it was safe and convenient. Freelancing became the only option that let him keep seeking answers without someone above stamping him down.
In the years since, having crossed paths with groups that prefer their operations remain purely theoretical, he's exposed data trails linking shipping companies to Black Sun, government operations quietly bypassing regulations to favor certain corporate interests, and security bureau contracts making targets for elimination absent any due process. It can complicate one's life, angering so many powerful folk, and showing the galaxy what's behind the curtain. As a result, Leo is forced to meet many contacts in places neither will stay for long.
What should have been such a routine meeting, a brief negotiation at most, turned the wrong way and the answers to Leo's questions cost more than he'd estimated. The details depend on who you ask, and Leo refuses to correct any story you might hear, but the replacement arm is clean, sleek, functional, and includes a few upgrades he keeps to himself.
These days, Leo Rellor continues to work in the margins, following stories and leads that others deem inconsequential, or too perilous to chase. Trading in fragments of information, using dead drops, encrypted channels, and less than scrupulous contacts, he keeps asking too many questions. The goal isn't to bring down any particular person, corporation, faction, or institute. Rather he believes, stubbornly and to his own detriment, that if enough pieces are exposed he can reveal the whole truth, which the galaxy deserves to know. Even if nothing changes, and even if people with the authority to act on it don't do the right thing.
