Strengths:

• Long-range firepower: over half the firepower can be directed against targets at long range
• Can overwhelm enemy point-defense thanks to the use of cloaked MIRVs

Weaknesses:

• Pagoda mast: the command superstructure is a large, exposed target, housing both the bridge and the CIC (although the CIC is nested deeper inside the ship than the bridge is)
• Slow, unmaneuverable (compared to ships in its size class)
• Exposed engines: if two of the four main engines are destroyed, the ship becomes very unwieldy (very low/very low) and can possibly allow for a chain reaction that can take the ship with it

Description: First used during the Liberation of Tython, the Legacy-class Star destroyer was built according to plans salvaged from a cache of ancient schematics on Jabiim prior to the Omega War, which yielded the Ultima-class bulk freighter and later the Mateus-class fleet carrier. It suffered years under development hell, because the development team wanted to add the latest in components each time new components were released, while ensuring that ships attacking aft would still face sufficient firepower not to have the aft arc considered as a significant weakness. On the dorsal spine are located the eight MIRV launchers, fired under cloak, which unleash their payload at standard concussion missile ranges. In addition smaller missile launchers are installed since the objective of is to overwhelm enemy point-defense at both long range and at short range. The ventral hangar can fit 3 squadrons of attack craft.

The Kaeshana point-defense HVC was found to be too large to effectively serve in this role, so the smaller Korriban heavy machinegun was mounted for that purpose. With its electronic warfare suite, the Legacy-class can jam enemy sensors, thus making it more difficult for enemy missiles to track the ship.
