- Planetary: This station can effectively cast itself over an entire planet.
- Anti-Starship: The Lasers projected through out the system work on a motion sensor. Any starship without preapproved transponder codes that is detected by this sensor will be targeted by all lasers that cover that field of fire, and they will fire on the target until they longer read consistent motion.
- Powerful: These lasers are extremely powerful, being powered by a large generator station and multiple generator hubs, they are effective against starship hulls and can heavily impact larger ships, usually to the point of destruction unless the ship has impeccable shielding.
- Defenseless: The laser grid nodes surround the planet, however they can be easily destroyed from afar as they have no protection. They are not meant to halt a full force invasion, merely protect against small raiding ships and unwanted visitors.
- Power Source: Without a continual connection from the generator stations and relays, this defense grid will immediately fail. A steady, immense power source is needed to keep this defense system active.
During the Clone Wars the Confederacy of Independent Systems created a design for a planetary defense system. This system is a destructive, yet undefended series of laser projection nodes. Scattering these nodes around the planetary orbit, usually embedding them in asteroids or asteroid belts, they would work in conjunction to create a series of laser webs that protected the planet from incoming ships. Of course, an ace pilot could possibly maneuver down to the planet, however escaping the planetary defense system is near impossibly because it is active through out the upper atmosphere, where most ships are still gaining speed.
