delvin made LAER as a matter of principle more than an actual need for a weapon but built a weapon that suits his needs. LAER is a blade with both a powerful blade and is fast in his hand useful to deflect lightsabers and blaster bolts in combat. The weapon also boosts delvins darkside abilities as he took meticulous amounts of time to build the lightsaber to be how it is. As he wanted something that would last so he made the blade that would be able to easily deflect any attacks that came his way and was powerful offensively.
