Height1.71 m | 5'7"
Weight55 kg | 121 lbs

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

A young and reasonably attractive woman, Lady Jocelyn Panteer looks fine and aristocratic: beautiful, composed, and a little bit severe. Her features are delicate, with a narrow oval face, a small nose, and a softly pointed chin. Her skin is quite pale, appearing almost porcelain against the contrast of her red hair and preference for darker clothing. Her complexion is very fair with a warm undertone, and depending on how much sun she's had, she could sport little freckles across her cheeks. She wears limited makeup at home, and only enough in society to not appear ill.

Her eyes are set slightly deeply beneath her auburn eyebrows. They're brown, watchful, calm, and guarded. She does not look like a natural schemer, having at least the appearance of openness about her while not really being particularly open. Her lips are small, defined by a cupid's bow shape and a natural pale rose color. She has a pleasant demeanor, giving the impression of someone who is attentive and kind.

Her hair is red, though it is more accurately described as warm auburn or coppery brown. She usually wears it in simple smooth curls. For courtly affairs, she wears the intricate braids expected in women of her class. Her build is slim, and she wears clothing typical of women of her class.

PERSONALITY AND BELIEFS

Jocelyn is quiet, observant, dutiful, and proud of her upbringing. She has a gentle manner, with an instinct to preserve concord, avoid spectacle, and keep private feelings private. She dislikes public emotional display -- particularly her own -- but she is not an unfeeling person. She is slow to trust, glacially paced (you know how that thrills me) when it comes to forgiving, and slow to act when action would impact the moral texture of her life. But once she has decided on a course of action, she is difficult to move off a position.

Jocelyn has a strong sense of propriety, but she isn't cold. This careful curating of her own character has made her popular among some of the more traditionalist and conservative elements at court, though her youth and attachment to Lord Theron Alde -- a handsome aristocrat in her similar age cohort with a glamorous reputation -- has also bolstered her reputation with her peers. Theron softened some of her more severe edges; she has even been known to enjoy a before-dinner cocktail now, and her salons and dinner parties since her marriage have been called "lively" and "fun."

High praise, indeed.

Still, at her core, she is no scold. Jocelyn prefers precision to drama, hates being bullied into declarations and feeling managed. She is a good listener, has impeccable manners, and a mind for the courtly intrigues, and all the little details that come with it: manners, precedence, protocol, etiquette. She is not especially ambitious, content until recently to quietly support her Organa cousins' claims to the throne.

STRENGTHS
  • Well-Mannered: aristocratic politics is built on insult, precedent, inclusion, omission, and tone. She rarely gives offense by accident, and when she does it on purpose, it is so beautifully done that the target often cannot object without looking out of their depth.
  • Observant: Jocelyn has a mind for detail and pattern. This, combined with her quiet nature and good listening skills, makes her dangerous. She has found that pretty, quiet girls are often underestimated. Being treated as decorative often means overhearing or being confided in important details.
  • Fencer's Build: Lithe but strong, Jocelyn Panteer was a champion fencer in school and at university. She maintains her skill, stamina, and strength through regular and rigorous training.
  • Gifted Tessara Player: Another habit she picked up in school, playing the tiles-based Tessara comes naturally to her. It teaches probability and risk, patience, adaptability, observation, restraint, and pattern recognition.
WEAKNESSES

  • Obscure: Her father's impulses -- to stay out of the main lane of politics -- instilled a political caution in her, and Jocelyn remains somewhat enigmatic politically -- not as flashy or visible as House Organa or House Thule yet, for instance.
  • Not Publicly Charismatic: Lady Jocelyn is not naturally gifted in the "public rally" sense. Her appeal to the people would be built by slow shows of dignity and dedication, not sweeping oratory.
  • Squeamishness: Jocelyn is uncomfortable with immorality, and she finds that if she has to engage too much in it to win something (for instance, a crown and throne), it may not be worth winning in the end.
  • Susceptible to Pressure: She finds it hard to say no to her husband Theron.

HISTORY

Lady Jocelyn Panteer was born into House Panteer, one of Alderaan's oldest royal houses, and raised among the highland estates, old charters, and careful silences of a clan that remembered power long after it stopped holding it. Her childhood was shaped by the burdens and privileges of Alderaanian nobility: language, law, music, history, service, court manners, and expectations. Although her bloodline gave her a claim to Alderaan's throne, like her father before her, she was nor raised to pursue it. Jocelyn was trained from birth for the Alderaanian court, painfully aware of the fact that is a Panteer, and that she would have a strong claim to the Alderaanian throne. Historically, she has had limited appetite for intrigue and power. Her parents quietly supported the claim of Alicio Organa to the throne, and she was happy to continue that support when her father died and Jocelyn became head of the house.

She married Theron Alde. The marriage was partially dynastic and partially personal. The two got on well. Theron submitted himself to the Panteer bloodline, though his family's proximity to power and the Alderaanian throne would later bolster her own, though hers remained the stronger of the two, though she insisted before their marriage that she considered the point moot and the claim dormant. The marriage did bring her closer to the core of court politics, and she spent more time in Aldera as a society spouse for Theron. At court, she remained Lady Jocelyn; to Theron, she is Joy.

When the Organas fled Alderaan and abandoned their claim to the Alderaanian throne, Jocelyn found herself being pulled toward the struggle for a throne she had never once sought. Her Panteer blood made her useful and dangerous. Her Organa loyalty made her credible. Her reluctance made her compelling to some and suspect to others. Pressured by her husband to stake a claim, watched by rival factions, and faced with the possibility of those with divided loyalties taking power. She now finds herself pressed to address questions she never wanted to answer: whether refusing power is an act of integrity or cowardice, and whether Alderaan itself can afford her hesitation anymore.
