  • Phrik
  • Droid components

Technical Information:

Classification: Fourth Degree
Weight: 650 kilograms (density projector increases weight substantially)
Height: 3.5 metres
Movement: Quadrupedal
Armaments:
  • Rotary blaster cannon [left arm]
  • Disruptor [right arm]
  • Heat-seeking cluster missile [back]
Misc. Equipment:
  • Photoreceptors
  • Density projector
  • Nuclear fusion power generator
  • Droid repulsor

Special Features:
  • Abundance of weaponry
  • Heavy armour
  • Advanced droid brain

Strengths:
  • Armament – The L-3 is the most heavily armed droid manufactured by AutoTech to date and perhaps one of the best equipped droids on the market. The range of weaponry allows for the L-3 to be effective at destroying both infantry and vehicles alike.
  • New design – A new quadrupedal design allows for the droid to maintain a high amount of stability even when the unit is exposed to extreme forces (e.g. powerful kinetic impacts, shockwaves, etc.) The extra legs have also increased the maximum weight, which has allowed for a more advanced droid brain, better armour, and more armaments.
  • Durability – Following the trend through the L-series, this new model has even greater durability compared to the L-3. Phrik armour makes the droid almost resistant to most forms of damage; sustained fire or anti-vehicle weaponry is required to destroy a unit effectively.
  • Equipment – Additional equipment, such as density projectors and droid repulsors, allow for the L-3 to perform more effectively in combat and use a wider range of strategies during battle.

Weaknesses:
  • Mobility – The torso of the L-3 contains all the weaponry and important systems of the droid, this makes this part of the droid heavy, because of this the legs are under a lot of stress which decreases how quickly they can move. The quadrupedal design has also caused the traverse speed of the L-3 to be slow and sluggish.
  • Power source – Due to the large armament of weapons and many advanced systems of the unit it requires power from a nuclear fusion generator. Although this fulfils the necessary energy output, it takes up a lot of space which could have been used for other systems. It also creates a potential weak spot as an effective shot on the reactor could disable the entire droid.
  • Cost – Compared to the other L-series droids, the L-3 has a very high price. This is partly due to the amount of advanced systems found on the droid and because of the high manufacturing costs involved with each unit.
  • War machine – The L-3 is primarily made for war. This is its only function and it performs poorly at other tasks. As it lacks any real hands, the L-3 cannot be used to operate any vehicles or machinery, and cannot use weaponry that is not already equipped.

Description:

The L-3 is the biggest and baddest of all the L-series to date. This model is described as being “armed to the teeth” by AutoTech marketing teams, and rightly so. This model features three types of offensive weaponry: a rotary blaster cannon, a disruptor cannon, and a cluster missile launcher. Each of these armaments can do extensive damage to infantry and vehicles alike. Advanced target acquisition modules make the unit rarely miss shots and help it more effective at airborne threats. Complementing this armament are various pieces of defensive equipment. The first of this equipment is the gravity projector; this greatly increases the mass of droid, making it difficult for kinetic impacts, shockwaves, or Force-users to move without extreme difficulty. Next is the droid repulsor; this equipment randomises the gravity around the droid, which slows the movement of nearby enemies to slow. This was added in order to make closer quarter engagements more manageable for the droid as traverse speed was known to be slow.

Due to the increased amount of weapon systems and advanced systems, the L-3 is the most expensive of all the L-series of droids. Each unit costs 21,000 credits and requires substantial manufacturing processes, because of this the L-3 could not be mass-produced by AutoTech with their current factories and bulk purchasing was not expected, unlike with the other models. AutoTech believes that this higher price tag is worth it as outfitting and training a soldier usually costs an average of 20,000 credits (varying depending on equipment, etc.) and for a small portion extra you are being provided with a highly armed, resilient, obedient killing machine. The phrik plates withstand incoming blaster fire far greater than flesh and bone, and most organisms are incapable of carrying the vast armaments of the L-3. In conclusion, for the extra 1,000 credits, you get so much more.
