FEATURES
DESCRIPTION

The Kynareth-Class Automated Star Destroyer is a ship designed and produced by Hegemonic Automaton. As of the post-Gulag Plague Era, it is the only modern ship on the market of its kind. In the history of the galaxy, there has never been a vessel quite so advanced and entirely automated as the Kynareth. Although it boasts a few key strengths that make it an effective warship, it ultimately suffers from abnormally high production costs, low production rate, low speed, and low maneuverability.

One of the key strengths is the Kynareth’s status as fully automated. These star destroyers need only a comparatively small complement of Z6 Naval Droids and Z5 Maintenance Droids to operate at full capacity. Compared to other vessels, this is crew size is unprecedented. The Kynareth is able to do so with the help of its H3 Ship Control Computer. From this super computer, the ship’s network of integrated J2 Droid Brains are coordinated rapidly and effectively by the ship’s AI. This reduces the need for naval crewmen engaged in non-manual tasks, such as power regulation and targeting. Coupled with this are the insights into ship automation provided by the Chiss Ascendancy, who were able to automate ships with efficiency unheard of in any other part of the galaxy. Until now, obviously.

The droid crew itself benefits from the presence of an H1 Droid Control Computer. This allows the ship’s AI to coordinate the physical crew in all of its activities. The cohesion that the droid control computer offers the ship’s droid crew is unrivaled even by species with hive mind traits. It simply cannot be compared to even the most veteran of naval crews, insectoid or otherwise.

Being that the crew is entirely composed of droids, this allowed significant wastes of space to be cut from the ship’s design. Crew quarters, recreational areas, mess halls, medical centers, water storage and filtration, and so forth are entirely absent from the vessel. This allowed Hegemonic Automaton to instead replace them with room for advanced internal systems and a redundant heavy shield generator.

One advanced feature happens to be the H2 Battle Analysis Computer. The H2 BAC is based on the one utilized so many years ago, the key difference being that it actually functions as intended. With it, the Kynareth-class can calculate thousands of potential tactical maneuvers and their predicted results at astronomical rates. This information is fed directly to the H01 Artificial Intelligence, likely the most advanced feature of the vessel.

The H01 AI is the commander and coordinator of the star destroyer. By merging the programming routines of Tactical and Administrator Droids, as well as bringing the program to sentience, the H01 AI is able to coordinate and control the entire vessel through the H1 DCC and the H3 SCC, while making tactical decisions based on output from the H2 BAC. What results is a ship captain just as competent as any organic counterparts. Some could speculate that the H01 AI is capable of even greater things than organic captains, seeing as it exerts total, omnipresent control over the vessel it commands. H01 AI units, however, name themselves and (by extension) the vessels they control. These AIs display a remarkable tendency to choose some of the most pompous, overly eloquent names possible. Renaming them is possible, but they will always internally refer to themselves as what they originally decided.

The level of control the H01 holds over its ship is brought about by two things. Firstly is the network of J2 Droid Brains and computers installed throughout the entire vessel which control individual systems, turrets, and so forth. Naturally, some manual operations are still required. These are performed by Z6 Naval Droids and Z5 Maintenance Droids. However, these droids are relayed orders directly by the vessel’s H1 Droid Control Computer. One can well imagine the results from there.

Naturally, all of these super computers and other affairs must take up a lot of power. Fortunately, none of the Hermaeus Series are powered directly by the ship’s generator. Rather, a small power generator that utilizes a small amount of Isotope-5 is hooked up to all three. Due to the nature of Isotope-5, even this small amount can power the super computers for a long time. The results of an act of sabotage or turbolaser barrage that could destroy it, however, would be devastating to say the least.

In terms of armaments, the Kynareth-class is geared towards the role of a defensive vessel. It comes equipped with a wide array of long range ion cannons intended to weaken the shields and fighting ability of starships before it moves in closer for the complete kill, which it accomplishes through a mass of turbolasers and a total of sixty explosive ordnance launchers. The vessel also comes equipped with a large amount of quad turbolasers and point-defense lasers to safeguard it from starfighters and bomber craft.

Offensive weaponry was never intended to be the main focus of the Kynareth. Rather, it is more geared to weathering assaults than launching them. The vessel holds a redundant, heavy deflector shield generator in the event its molecular shield generator were to fall to enemy weapons fire. It also features a multitude of highly reinforced metals so that the ship can weather prolonged weapons fire even in the event of multiple shield failures.

Of course, being a an automated vessel, precautions against Ion attacks had to be taken. The Kynareth-class is protected from ionic and EMP-based attacks by a system of QQ-543N/53R Cap Drain Modules. Naturally, these can be overwhelmed given a highly concentrated amount of Ion cannon fire. If a captain were to figure out where the "bridge" of the vessel is, directing a sustained ion cannon barrage to it would essentially act as a "headshot." All three supercomputers would be neutralized. The tactical droids manning the "bridge" would be forced to assume control of the vessel through other means and the operating effectiveness of the ship would be critically impaired, possibly to the point where all it could do is plot a retreat course.

To make matters worse, the supercomputers in question were not made to sustain such attacks. The damage they suffer would be irreparable. The supercomputers would need to be replaced entirely- a costly and time consuming process. H01 AI may also become rampant upon reactivation, potentially adding to the cost of repairs.

Of course, as stated above, the Kynareth-class Automated Star Destroyer is not without its own set of weaknesses. Its abnormally high production cost, coupled with the difficulty of manufacturing these vessels, makes them all but impossible to produce in significant quantities. There is also a distinct lack of passenger space and, due to the space taken up by internal systems, greatly reduced cargo space in comparison to other star destroyers. The vessel is also much slower and less maneuverable than other ships of its size.

There is also the risk of the H0 AI going rogue or becoming rampant, which is why the TA3 Tactical Droids present on the vessel are not linked to the H1 DCC. Their explicit purpose is to disable the AI if it exhibits rampancy and assume direct control. Doing so will prevent the ship from going rogue, but completely diminish its operating effectiveness. As always, Hegemonic Automaton is not responsible if your star destroyer develops sentience and decides it doesn't like you very much. Constant memory wipes are highly recommended.

RESEARCH REVIEW

I can only assume, based on the fact that just about everything in the ship is automated, that Ion and EMP weaponry will be devastating to this ship. Could you include a passage in the submission about the effects of Ion and EMP weaponry on the AI controlling it and the Droid Control computers. Obviously the localized disabling effects of Ion weaponry, but what are the wide spread effects on the ship.
