  • Integration - Removing the system is equivalent to removing every system on the host (host herein refers to whatever device, vehicle, ship etc KSD is installed on). KSD is hard integrated into Life Support, Engines, Hyperdrive, Weapons, even Windshield Wipers. It is integral to their operation, as systems connect through KSD.
  • Hardened Security - KSD also acts as its own "anti-virus software," and operates in a way similar to adaptive droids. It ensures self-protection of its system to maintain control. This makes it incredibly hard to crack, but not impossible. The equivalent is an individual or entity achieving a success against the KSD, but the KSD, making another problem or obstacle for the hacker to overcome.
  • Shutdown Procedures - When a specific KDY-authorized signal is received, KSD activates and shutdowns all systems. All Primary and Secondary. Everything. Under certain circumstances, Life Support can be remained online. These signals and transmissions are hardcoded into KSD so there can not be any faked transmissions. If a transmission is used that KSD does not already know, there will be no response.
  • Anti-Hacker, Hacker - The KSD operates similar to hacking methods employed by individuals and entities used in the Galaxy today, and can also work like a Worm or Virus

Strengths:
  • Asset Protection - In the event an item that is either KDY-produced, modified, or altered, is found being used against Kuat Drive Yards facilities, personnel, or other assets, KSD-851 forces the aforementioned item to shutdown. Different codes can shut down different things, but there is also a primary code
  • Hard-coded - The program is integrated into every ship system with its own security and security bypasses, making it near virtually impossible to remove, but absolutely impossible to physically remove from the entire ship.
Weaknesses:
  • Jamming Susceptible - Jamming hardware that either blocks sensors, scanners, or communications, can disable the KSD. Technically, it isn't disabled, but it doesn't receive the necessary signals, so assumes all is fine. The transmissions can be made remotely, or physically if connected to a shipyard or dock.
  • EMP Susceptible - Just like any other system, if they aren't EMP resistant, KSD isn't either. However, backups packed inside the main program of each device prevents corruption or loss of program data.
  • Manual Input - The signal is only known to, and can only be transmitted by, authorized personnel (Player-Characters) in high enough positions, and can't be transmitted even if known unless authorized. Identification credentials that KSD knows are only accepted, and they are separate, private, credentials made for this system.

Besides physical defenses, Kuat Drive Yards undertook other measures to protect themselves or prevent capture. Every ship built or upgraded at a KDY facility had secret backdoor codes installed, allowing KDY security forces to access and gain control of that ship, or simply shut it down. The KDY facilities and some ships were fitted with secret self-destruct mechanisms to prevent capture.
Slightly different from the original Kuat Drive Yards Built-In Security System, the KSD-851 operates on a more... moral perspective. While Self-Destruction codes were a guaranteed last resort to solve any problem, they usually killed everyone within the Host. without warning, while some may have even been innocents. Not only did the new KDY President not have sufficient access to this archaic system, it was mostly lost to the years of the galaxy that swept on by. However, it was still a security asset KDY agreed to be used. KSD-851 ensures the protection and safety of KDY personnel and assets. and helps to secure the safety of the galaxy so as to prevent piracy and illegal use of KDY products. Who wants a rogue Star Destroyer jumping into their home system without warning and pummeling their homeworld?
