Strengths

  • Heavy Defenses: The Krakana sports exceptional passive defenses including molecular shielding,double-layered Aspis shielding, an Aegis Anticoncussion field generator, and thick Argentum armor plating. Internally, the ship's systems use Biolux organoform circuitry and Calor series bio-computers to be more resistant to ionic attacks. The ship's key computer room is further shielded in an agrinicrete to make it more resistant to radiation weapons.

  • Advanced Hyperdrive: The Krakana is not typically very fast in hyperspace, but it does come with a hyperdrive booster which can allow it to briefly boost its hyperspace speed, and several HIMS devices, which provide with a limited ability to penetrate through interdiction fields.

  • Mission Function Modules: Taking a page from MCS's past Shashore and Sabertooth vessels, the Krakana is equipped with a modular ventral fin that can support different modules for different missions. Ironically, that fin is designed to be compatible with the Mission Function Modules used by the old Imperial Modular Taskforce cruiser. This makes each Krakana highly modular, an almost a necessity because of the overall rarity of large warships within the Silver Jedi-associated fleets.
Weaknesses:

  • Low Maneuverability: The Krakana-class Tactical Command Ship is not very maneuverable, largely because it has an exceptionally dense hull between its Ossis starship frame and heavy Argentum matrix armor plating.

  • Fixed fore Weapons: A large portion of the Krakana's firepower is in spinal-mounted Onager-class Plasma Rail Cannons which have limited forward firing arc which is exacerbated by the ship's low maneuverability.

  • Vulnerable Modularity: The mission function modules are mounted on the bottom of the ventral spar. While this position allows a versatility in shapes needed to accomplish different missions, it also makes them much more vulnerable to damage or destruction being away from most of the ship's hull.
Description: The Krakana-class Tactical Command Ship is one of the rare battlecruisers in service with the Silver Jedi-affiliated ISAF forces. Because the ISAF relies on quality rather than quality, it is an exceptionally advanced design that relies heavily mission functional modules in order to meet the various demands and mission profiles placed on the small number of warships. But when one of the rare warships arrives, they are exceptionally capable warships well-suited for leading ISAF fleets. Their powerful Onager-class Plasma Rail Cannons are usually capable of shattering through most opponent's defenses while their triple-layered shields and auxiliary defenses make them resilient foes against the most powerful combatants. The combat staying power of these systems makes them well-suited as flagships for high-ranking ISAF officers like Admiral Quee, who commands the Obi-Wan Kenobi. To that end, Lucerne Labs used their experience with their previous Union II-class Assault Carrier and Deluge-class Battle Carrier to make extensive and improved command and control facilities capable of directing thousands of units and soldiers into battle. All known Krakanas are named after prominent Jedi around the time of the Clone Wars and most crews try to live towards their namesake's legacy. The presence of a Krakana on the battlefield is a clear signal of commitment by the Silver Jedi and their affiliated ISAF forces to winning a battle.

Technical Descriptions

Command and Control: One of the Krakana's key roles is to act as a command and control station for both military and civilian uses. While the ship's amphitheater-like bridge can handle many of the day to day demands, even a little growth in assets to control or a complication in a scenario can rapidly overwhelm these limited abilities. This led the the design team to include specialized ground and space control facilities, known as the Planetary Operations Center(POC) and Space Operations Center(SOC) respectively.

The SOC, also known as the “wishing well”, is a tactical command post loosely based on the bridge of the old Inexpungnable-class. It is circular room with two levels, with the inner level being substantially lower than the outer ring. The outer ring holds typical computer consoles, comscans, and a handful of small scale holo-tanks. But the central portion is created with a transparisteel deck and walls through which embedded holo-projectors could recreate the space around them and the objects, both artificial and natural, on a large scale that is not only detailed and immersive, but also in real-time. Such a presentation affords the crew manning it perhaps the easiest method to observe and interpret on a large scale while avoiding being sucked into observing the battle through a handful of 'keyholes' viewpoints, such as the bridge viewport or an several electro-photoreceptors. Exploration expeditions frequently use the SOC to explore avenues of approach through difficult terrains and to coordinate initial orbital traffic over a newly colonized world. Unsurprisingly, Silver Jedi flag officers frequently use it to help coordinate groups of ships, from the largest cruiser to the smallest starfighter.

The Planetary Operations Center is located a short distance away from both the main bridge and the SOC. This is a rectangular room whose walls are mostly covered in LCD screens which frequently display live feeds from cameras and other visual sensors found on personal armors, droids, vehicles, and other like devices. Most of the room is occupied with neat rows of computer consoles and holographic tactical battlefield displays needed to interpret the vast amount of data flows through the center and coordinate the units present on the ground. Many of these consoles are equipped with CL-3 headsets to help control and coordinate droids and other automated units. This room also contains an ARENA-7580 Holo-projector, used to plan large-scale movements, and a pair of CS-Mark 10 Command Combat Simulators, which are used to analyze terrain and simulate battle plans. These systems are all fully integrated with Subutai Tactical system, allowing for improved kill-chain performance and direct observation. Aside from groundside military applications, the POC is most frequently used in conjunction with mission function modules like the hospital and survey modules to accomplish specific humanitarian missions. As key assets to the Silver Jedi, the Krakana also includes several meditation chambers located just outside of the bridge and near the POC and SOC to enable battle meditation.

Communications: The Krakana makes extensive use of multiple Oracle-class Communications Packages and Biocomms that allow the ship to handle thousands of incoming and outgoing transmissions as a command and control vessel. To that end, the Krakana has a host of short-ranged comlinks networked into a central communications computer that allows it to support hundreds of different simultaneous data streams. These units can be used by military forces through the POC to coordinate movements of peoples, vehicles, droids, and other units as necessary for large-scale operations. Because Oracle can also be used to jam and disrupt communications, units working in sync with a Krakana will typically use channel-hopping algorithms to link their communication's efforts, which allows the Krakana to selectively jam frequencies to deny their use to the enemy while allowing their own communications to continue unhindered. Aside from the Oracle and Biocomm packages, Krakanas also host multiple encrypted HoloNet transceivers, allowing Silver Jedi and commanders to remain connected with their allies even as they travel across the stars.

Computer systems: The Krakana makes extensive use of Lucerne Labs propietary Calor series Bio-computers and Biolux Organoform Circuitry to form large, adaptable networks that service individual departments, such as Medical, and systems, such as Propulsion, of the ship. Typically, these local networks are not linked together, using compartmentalization in order to promote cyber security. The systems of the bridges are an exception, however, most of those consoles only have read-only access, and cannot input commands into those networks. However, the flag officer's console is in turn the exception to both of those rules, and can be used to vastly augment the task of whatever he or she is working on or provide computing power for several AIs. These computer systems are augmented by Hydra Mesh programming and protected by Mithril Security Software.

Hull: The Krakana uses a Ossis series starship frame as the structural framework upon which a thick layer of Argentum-series Matrix Armor is mol-welded onto. The ship noticeably sports extra armor belt around the midsection of the ship to allow it to better protect the critical systems of the ship, including the bridge and reactor systems. This makes most of the exterior of the Krakana quite durable. Internally, the hull is divided into typical compartments using bulkheads that incorporate an Agrinicrete layer to better protect components and peoples against radiation that manages to break through the ship's shielding and armor. This makes Krakanas unusually well-suited for travelling through high radiation areas, including certain nebulas and systems with a pulsar star.

Hyperdrive: The Krakana has a pretty typical hyperdrive system for a ship its size, capable of propelling the vessel up to x2 speed. The prevalence of interdictor technology being employed by the First Order inspired Lucerne Labs to incorporate multiple hyperspace coils in the ship's HIMS design, allowing it to better penetrate extensive interdiction efforts. The Krakana also has the largest known (to the Silver Jedi) version of the Torrential Hyperdrive Booster, which enables Krakanas to quickly transverse the void for exceptionally urgent missions.

Security: The Krakana incorporates conventional Lucerne Labs internal security systems, making extensive use of code cylinders to control sensitive access to the ship and its systems. Tripping or attempting to force one's way into the system can not only trigger silent alarms that inform the ship's security team, but also trigger any number of automated traps. Forced access to most restricted rooms triggers man traps concealed underneath the deck's plate in an attempt to immobilize the intruder. Key rooms, corridors, and junction points are further guarded by Class VI automated laser projectors and force-field generators. In terms of electronic protection, the ship utilizes a Mithril Security Software that is frequently watched over and supervised by dedicated network administrator droids and organic slicers. There is enough excess computing capacity that the ship can host several artificial intelligences, and it is known that Admiral Quee typically brings an Atropos AI to help augment a ship's electronic protection.

Shields: The Krakana's main shielding is a pair of distinct Aspis Shield System networks, which typically provide two layers of standard strength shielding across the entire ships hull. These shields are augmented by a molecular shield whose absorbed energy is used in turn to help power up the vessel's Aegis anticoncussion field generator. Otherwise, the Aegis only has several small power generators which only allow it to operate on a low power rating without power being diverted from other systems.

Sublight Drives: The Krakana is propelled by several banks of Nimble-5 Ion Engines which typically provides the vessel with average amounts of speed. They can temporarily boost the Krakana's speed to moderate speeds at the cost of lowering the Krakana's maneuverability. Conversely, the Krakana's maneuverability can be increased to average levels at the cost of sublight speed by using the ship's Gulfstream maneuvering system. This flexibility allows Krakanas to better fulfill their multiple purpose mission profile as needed. Because all of the ship's engines are identical, maintenance and repair is exceptionally simple, leading to the engine rooms mostly being staffed by a droid work crew that includes hatching droids, LE Repair droids, and astromechs. The organic crew typically supervises their efforts from a remote control station rather than suit up in radiation suits except when its absolutely necessary, such as for complicated repairs or detailed inspections.

Weapons: Krakanas have a moderate amount of firepower for their size. Their primary weapons consist of four spinal mounted Onager-class Plasma Railguns placed in the center of its hull. These behemoth weapons are typically used to pound its counterparts from long-range with exceptional precision. But because these weapons are limited by the ship's sometimes lacking maneuverability, they are backed a smaller turreted Angon-class Hypervelocity cannons and Scythe Homing lasers which are more suited for hitting targets relatively smaller and more maneuverable than those of the Onagers. Tertiary batteries of mass driver cannons and turbolasers round out the ship's gun-based firepower. Krakanas also notably have a quartet of Aura Tractor/Pressor projectors spaced out around the middle of the ship that are frequently used as impromptu weapons or to alter the environment to better suit the vessel's needs. Numerous general purpose warhead launchers and minelayers provide the Krakana with flexible options to deploy a variety of ordinances at a variety of ranges, all of which enable the ship's multi-mission profile. Lastly, the ship sports evenly dispersed groups of Trudo defense turrets, flak cannons, light defensive projectile launchers, and automated autoblasters to provide with a layered defense from small threats like enemy strikecraft and boarders. It's notable that the Krakana's point defenses have an emphasis in the numbers of flak cannons, making it quite capable of tearing through and breaking up large numbers of enemy strikecraft before they can engage the vessel's other point defenses and screening starfighters.

Carrying Capacity: As a typical, multi-purposed design, the Krakana carries an average amount of starfighters, support craft, and ground forces. Building off Lucerne Labs experience with the Deluge-class Battle Carrier, the Krakana uses numerous and dispersed single squadron starfighter hangar bays. Each starfighter hangar can be locked down by thick blast doors armored in Argentum Matrix Armor and is flanked by a pair of tractor beam projectors to help guide damaged starfighters into the hangar bay or to dissuade intruders from entering the bay if the doors are not shut. The Krakana also has several other hangars of similar design that carry the support craft needed to maintain its day to day operations or to land its ground force complement. As with many other vessels of its class, by virtue of its size, the Krakana also carries a large number of troops and ground vehicles, typically the equivalent of two battlegroups under the old Imperial Army system. Because the Silver Jedi and their affiliated ISAF forces have relatively few organic soldiers, most of these forces are actually automated. It's not uncommon to see over half of these forces actually consist of L1 Marinus droids which not only provide ship security, but also assist in running the ship itself.

Mission Function Modules: Taking a page from MCS's past Shashore and Sabertooth vessels, the Krakana is equipped with a modular ventral fin that can support different modules for different missions. Ironically, that fin is designed to be backwards compatible with the Mission Function Modules used by the old Imperial Modular Taskforce cruiser. This makes each Krakana highly modular, an almost a necessity because of the overall rarity of large warships within the Silver Jedi-associated fleets. Most MFMs are task force cruiser units recovered and refurbished to meet Silver Jedi needs and purposes, though a few modules are wholly unique to the Krakana. A Krakana can carry only ONE of the following mission function Module at a time at the bottom of its fin. Like the modular taskforce cruiser, it also takes a day at a shipyard or other advanced facility to change out modules.

Hospital: This module remains relatively unchanged from the TaggeCo version, housing a large number of medical staff, both organic and inorganic, along with extensive surgical suites, bacta tanks, and recovery wards to help stabilize and heal thousands of peoples. Silver Jedi technicians have notably replaced dozens of typical beds with stasis chambers to stabilize those who are grieviously injured or infected. The hospital module is typically given to Krakanas deployed on humitarian and mercy missions, making a strategic asset even if it has little direct combat value.

Survey Module: Another module that remains relatively unchanged from the TaggeCo version. Refurbished Silver Jedi survey modules notably replace the carried starfighters and blastboats with hyperspace pods to carry probe droids to other part of a system or as an advance scouting force before the Krakana arrives. Krakanas with survey modules are typically used for large exploration expeditions in uncharted or dangerous areas. This module does not directly enhance the combat ability of a Krakana in any immediate tactical way.

Observation Module: Another refurbished module that remains relatively unchanged from the TaggeCo version. Silver Jedi modules do not carry any starfighters, using that space instead to support the addition of Signal Tappers and communication wave descramblers. Krakanas with observation modules are typically used to gather intelligence at a distance on enemy systems or to monitor the borders of Silver Jedi space in order to act as early warning and response assets.

Rescue Module: Another refurbished module that remains relatively unchanged from the TaggeCo version. Typically deployed to areas after massive space battles or natural disasters. Occasionally one of the Krakanas will carry such a unit into battle if it is expected that there will be large numbers of casualties, and the fleet will not be occupying the space afterwards. This is done in order to ensure that damaged craft and EVA crew do not fall into enemy hands.

Colony Module: This is actually an extensively repurposed version of the Inquisition Module. While it retains the pair of modular garrisons, the interrogation droids are replaced with labor droids, the orbital nightcloak is replaced with weather and communication satellites, and the pre-fabricated disintegration chambers are replaced with simple tents. This allows Krakanas to assist in establishing new colonies or moving refugees to settle in other areas of already populated worlds.

Cloaking Warfare: One of the few Silver Jedi-specific modules, this provides the Krakana with a hibridium-based cloaking device, gravitic amplitude modulators, and a crystal gravfield trap along with generators to power those devices. This gives the Krakana the ability to be relatively stealthy, though specialized sensors may still detect its presence (but not its location) by picking up its ion engine wake. Because Hibridium based cloaking devices cut off both sensors and communications from going into and out of the field, its use is somewhat typically limited. Lucerne Labs added some utility by including the CGT though, not specifically to detect other cloaked ships, but because the sensor is not affected by the Krakana's own cloaking field. This means that a Krakana can see the locations of other objects in space and navigate around them, even if it can't tell what they are. Because the Krakana cannot differentiate the objects around it nor communicate with other ships while the cloaking field is active, this module remains of limited utility except in special circumstances.

Electronic Warfare: This module contains a dozen 220-SIG Sensor Jamming Devices, a dozen Mimic sensor Decoy launchers, a Missile Deactivation Transmitter, and a Ranger Subspace Transceiver signal-boosted by Hiridiu crystals. This module is the most encountered module found on Krakanas entering combat, as it amplifies their ability to communicate with friendly vessels while it similarly degrades enemy communications and sensors.
