- Distinctions: The Knyghts are hulking piles of muscle, rage, and zealous devotion to war. Genetically altered and cybernetically enhanced humans and near-humans, the Knyghts are super soldiers on par with many of the rest of the galaxies finest soldiers. Inside the Knyght's body are cybernetic implants, who's open ports are visible from their skin. These implants hook up directly to the Knyght's armor, allowing them to utilize the impressive piece of equipment.
- Races: Every Knyght house differs in minor cultural ways having to do with who the leadership of that respective house tends to be. Some speak entirely different languages than Galactic Standard, some practice blood ritual, or alter their initiation process to better weed out individuals that wouldn't fit within the culture of the house. Yet all Houses are the same in their ever present thirst for blood, glory, and conflict.
- Force Sensitivity: All. Candidates for becoming a Knyght must be force sensitive, and the process of engineering them into becoming a Knyght makes them more so.
Memory Uplifting: When a man is being transformed into a Knyght his mind is fundamentally changed in that new knowledge of combat and strategy is engrained in his very psyche while concepts like the Scriptures of the Hidden Maw being fact and loyalty to his superiors are made almost instinctual.
Force Sensitivity: Every Knyght is force sensitive, some lean in to this to allow them control the force, others scorn it. Most have a general concept of the force, able to move small objects and detect danger before it arrives.
Super Soldier: Big hulking muscles. Those are three words that best describe a Knyght. They're incredibly strong, capable of standing up to a Wookie in a fist fight. They also have redundant organs, meaning even if their heart is shot one of their back up hearts will simply pick up the slack. The easiest way to kill a Knyght is a blast through the skull, yet their reinforced dense bones make that incredibly difficult.
Weaknesses:
Force Susceptible: They are attuned to the force, which also makes them weaker to it. They are far more likely to fall victim to mind tricks or manipulation.
Genetic Upkeep: Fearing a possible rebellion by the Knyghts, their creator instilled in them a virus that slowly unravels their genetic code. In order to fight this, the Knyght requires specialized equipment on their Monasteries. This equipment needs a steady supply of new genetic code, often taken from failed initiates. Should this supply suddenly stop, all the Knyghts on board the monastery will slowly die.
Divide and Conquer: Knyghts are fiercely individualistic and are easy to turn on one another, especially if they are from different houses. This is even easier if the manipulation is done through the force. This individualism also shows as lacking any kind of discipline or group coherency on the battlefield.
CULTURE
- Diet: Carnivore
- Communication: Capable of speaking, able to speak telepathically with one another
- Technology level: The Knyghts often have very little knowledge when it comes to technology, instead relying on the technology given to them.
- Religion/Beliefs: Firm zealots in the Scripture of the Hidden Maw
- General behavior:
Knyghts typically divide themselves into 'Knyghtly Houses' with names such as Daedelon (the first of these houses), Maw-Star, and Ulrica, and other invented names. These houses are strictly hierarchical, with the various positions of the hierarchy earned by defeating the one who owns the title in combat. The defeated individual will then be sent to the lowest levels of the Knyghtly House's Orbital Monastery where he will be the final challenge for new recruits. The first recruit to kill him will take his place at the bottom of the House's totem pole. However if he fights many battles and proves his worth to the house he may be redeemed and brought back into the fold. Each house is made up of between 600 and 1000 individuals and is in constant need of new recruits. Recruits are brought in from across the Brotherhood of the Maw. Individuals that a Knyght feels may be promising can be sponsored by said Knyght, yet this is not at all a blessing. Every sponsored recruit is brought to the Orbital Monastery where they will be forced to fight to the death in a series of one on one battles until only one is left. This single survivor out of possibly hundreds will face the final test of defeating a scorned unarmored Knyght. If he succeeds in even that he will undergo the process of being 'uplifted' into becoming a Knyght and joining the house at its lowest level. The rest are burned into the Monastery's bio reactors to fuel the Orbital Station.
A key aspect of Knyght culture is individual accomplishment. This is taken to such an extreme that Knyghts usually hate fighting in large cruisers, preferring fighters to prove their worth in battle as an individual rather than relying on others. Small 'packs' can form that generally share the glory, but even then they tend to man a squadron of fighters or at the very largest a Corvette. This often shows on the battlefield too, with Knyghts tending to charge directly into battle with little coordination or planning.
A common tradition in the Knyghts are hunts. Hunting large predatory animals in the brush of the creatures home planet, or unlucky prisoners of war they've let loose in the lower decks of their monasteries. At the end, the meat of the kill is usually consumed. Very few Knyghts have problems with cannibalism, usually seeing the individual they just killed as little more than an animal.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION:
The Brotherhood of the Maw needed soldiers, not the riff raff that came crawling from every corner of the galaxy to join the carnage but real professional soldiers who could be relied upon to be the point of the spear leading the charge. Sslaok-Goa knew this, his years exploring the universe and reading ancient tomes had taught him as much and such he began working on the first Knyghts. Early prototypes were failures, relying too much on muscle rather than mind, but through trial and error the first Knyght, who would name himself Khan Daedelon, would be born. Coming from Tygerii blood, the trained soldier who had toned himself for a decade both mentally and physically proved to be the prime candidate for the extensive flesh shaping and genetic alterations required to evolve into a Knyght, establishing the need for the upper echelon of the warriors of the Maw. The process was painful, with old muscle being surgically removed and replaced, bones being broken and regrown longer and stronger, the mind itself being altered to know true warrior spirit and unwavering loyality to The Maw. No simple vagabond would do. Khan would assist Ssloak-Goa in accumulating the first batch of hand picked soldiers from the Maw's ranks, forming the first House of the species, House Daedelon.
From here more Houses would be formed, being put in charge of their respective planets within the Maw and being called upon to conquer new worlds when their might was needed. With each planet conquered, with each god toppled or hero slain, the Knyghtly houses and their champions took new titles, new honorifics, new claims to glory as their eternal crusade of slaughter and glory seeking continues. It is but the early months of their history, but already they have proven invaluable warriors to The Maw's bloody crusade.
