Faction Kingmaker Vol. 1: The Enemy of My Enemy

Where I have passed, grass will never grow again.

In the fires, he saw the futures unfold in shades of yellow, orange, and red. Whispers of death and madness in the Core, a new player upon the stage, and a world called Humbarine.

Behold, the fay warlord’s smile grew for at last here was the conflict he was promised when he and his horde toppled Solipsis from the throne and sought to plunder the jewels of the Core.

Laughter boomed out, loud and raucous.

“Helm, set a course for Kestri.”

A lone Star Destroyer emerged outside of Kestri’s defensive perimeter and immediately transmitted the galactic standard code for we come in peace.

The hull of the Star Destroyer gleamed with a plating of golden impervium. Its transponding beacon identified it as the Slayer of Sovereigns. A spire jutted from just behind the star destroyer's bridge and looked dotted with dozens upon dozens of Vagaari living shield blisters, thin bubbles of plastic within which sat the skeletal remains of captured prisoners long since starved away. Mawite prisoners, captured at Chandrila.

A transmission went out on open channels.

“Mandalorians of Kestri, I am Hasuras na-Gerra, Qhan of the Crimson Fleet, Grand Consort of the Hapes Consortium, Scourge of the Core, and Champion of the Ember of Vahl. I come to bargain.”

He does love his titles, Vatrës Dhalis observed as she stood off to the side.

It could have been an unattractive quality. A magpie mind was not always the most easy to be around. Yet, the Avatara of Vahl did not find it irritating. They were titles he had earned with the muscle of his back, the sweat of his brow, the blood of his veins and -- she gathered -- in the case of Grand Consort of the Hapes Consortium, other efforts altogether. The least said about that, the better.

Vatrës stood with her back straight, her black eyes fixed on the side of Gerra's face. She could just see the scar that marred his otherwise ethereally beautiful face, like a ridge on the horizon, from his angle. He had things under control so far, and she doubted whether he had any appetite for taking advice from her direction anyway. From Vatrës or from the dark goddess that lurked in the shadowy confines of her inscrutable mind.

When he had made his opening entreaty and the uptake was muted, she stepped forward, clasping her hands behind her back.

"Now that we're here, will you say what you saw in the flames, Hasuras Na-Gerra?" she asked quietly, her voice spiced faintly with amusement. "Or is my presence here merely... ornamental?"
