Strengths:

 • When SLAM is activated, the Cuervo receives a significant boost in speed for 30 seconds.
Weaknesses:

 • When SLAM is activated, the Cuervo suffered a significant reduction in maneuverability. SLAM may only be used once every five minutes.
Description:

The KF-02B Cuervo Starfighter is the export version of the original KF-02 Talon produced for the Silver Jedi Order. To that end, while the basic performance and modularity of the frame remains intact, it sports less advanced avionics and other features in favor of more familiar off the shelf components for easier maintenance by the likes of planetary defense forces and non-governmental organizations.

Design

The Cuervo has a sleek and compact aerodynamic frame for a reduced target profile, created from a tough but lightweight ferrocarbon infused with neutronium to aid in dissipating the force of shocks. Similarly, the hull is made from laminate armor that also helps reduce weight as opposed to using simpler but much heavier homogeneous material.

and a pair of swept S-foils in a biplane layout extends from the fuselage, featuring control surfaces all over their length for greater maneuverability in atmo. The biplane layout was used as a creative method to increase the surface area of the frame for greater heat dissipation in the vacuum of space and to provide space for external hardpoints.

The shrouded armored cockpit from the Talon has been replaced with an equally tough but transparent glassteel bubble canopy nearly unrivaled in the fields of view it provides a pilot for visual navigation.

Engines

The primary form of propulsion is a single powerful ion rocket that nearly extends the length of the fuselage. A single-engine layout was chosen to further reduce maintenance requirements. For maneuverability, the rocket has a 3D vectoring system utilizing magnetized paddles, and this is supplemented by simple ion vernier thrusters across the exterior of the frame for six degrees of freedom in vacuum environments.

For a limited time, the Cuervo can dramatically increase the output of its rocket for much greater acceleration and speed through the use of its overdrive system, an excellent feature for both pursuit and evasion. However, this output comes at the expense of limited maneuverability while the overdrive is active.

It has standard repulsorlifts to aid in travel within gravity wells, and much like TIE fighters of old, it can hover in place or fly at very low speeds in atmo where other craft would stall.

For FTL travel, is possess a standard class 1.0 military hyperdrive. While the hyperdrive itself is fairly unremarkable in performance, it does give the Cuervo a massive operational range far away from bases and carriers.

Avionics

The comms and sensor package of the Talon was more or less carried over to the Cuervo , including its impressive quantum radar system, an active sensor able to function well in areas of high interference. With Hydra software enhancement, each Cuervo can easily function as a node in a mesh network for sensor fusion and reliable coordination even when being targeted for jamming.

The largest change here was in the display and management systems. Formerly an advanced panoramic holographic display governed by a neural net, the cockpit was gutted and replaced with much simpler glass display - a set of several large touch screens that could be customized by the pilot on the fly to display any desired information.

While there is no longer lifelike virtual reality displays, pilots may utilize an optional helmet-mounted display to improve their situational awareness with an AR overlay, essentially functioning as a more ergonomic targeting computer worn over the eye. Alternatively, the fighter can link with third-party peripherals like helmet HUDs for the same effect.

The onboard droid was removed, eliminating the autonomous mode, but in its place, an astromech slot was added to allow pilots greater flexibility in using more familiar droid companions.

Armament

Configuration A

In its default configuration, the Cuervo’s principal fixed armament is a single rapid-fire laser cannon. With a high fire rate, the main gun can dish out a great deal of damage against other strike craft and small vehicles. An inbuilt charge regulator allows the pilot to easily change the output of laser cannon where required, like when providing close air support in urban zones.

Taking the place of the Talon’s underslung ripper turret and active protection system is a single chaff gun. It has amazing utility, great for taking down missiles and lightly armed targets while also providing a low tech jamming alternative to more advanced EWAR systems.

Where the Talon really shines is with its external hardpoints, able to mount a wide variety of ordinance and pods (e.g.probe droids) for different missions, be it as an interceptor, bomber, or even as an early warning platform. Easy to use, the hardpoints can be reconfigured to mount different payloads within a matter of minutes.

Configuration B

This alternate configuration of the Cuervo is similar to the default configuration, the only difference being a rapid-fire ion cannon in place of the main laser cannon. Great for shield busting and disabling targets rather than destroying them.

Countermeasures

All the advanced active protection system and ECM/ECCM suite were replaced by more affordable solutions with centuries of proven use and documentation on upkeep. Chiefly the versatile chaff gun, supplemented by low powered jammer and countermeasure flares.
