BACKGROUND

Before she was a hunter, Kes was a child on an Icarii colony a few days hyperspace travel from Vestar. That life was severed when a rogue Force sect, seeing her potential, abducted her. They sought to bend her into a living conduit for their philosophy. But Kes’s will proved hard to break so she learned while keeping her own self.

Her captivity was cut short by fire and beskar. A Mandalorian Hunt dedicated to Ha’rangir targeted the sect, completely dismantling them within days. A veteran mandalorian, Al’raad Lok, found a fiercely independent child refusing to cower in fear. Impressed by her spirit, Al'raad adopted Kestrel into his clan. In accordance with Mandalorian tradition, she proudly added the name Lok to her birth name. She became a foundling member of Ha’rangirs Chosen.

While Kes rejected her captors' ideology, she could not ignore the gifts they had forcibly unlocked. Rather than viewing the Force as a magical field or a fixed binary of light and dark, Kes understood it through the lens of a highly distinct, localized tradition her captors had called “Loa-Vril”.

To Kes, the Force is an world of living currents, ancestral echoes, and unseen arbiters called the Loa. Her Force abilities are structured around specific rituals.

The Crossroads (Psychometry & Tracking): Kes can look into the past. By tasting the soil recently trodden by a target or pressing her palms to a discarded weapon, she creates a bridge in the force. She enters a brief, trance-like state where the memories of the object come to her, allowing her to see through the eyes of the dead or track a target across entire sectors

The Veve and Venoms (Charms & Jinxes): Her firce powers rely on sacrifice. The night before a major hunt, Kes can be found in the armory or the wilderness, drawing intricate, temporary symbols “veves” into the dirt or onto her gear, offering small sacrifices of rare herbs, spilled oil, or drop of her own blood. In return, she "jinxes" her enemies. She subtely warps probability so their blaster bolts stray, their armor seals fail, or their minds cloud with sudden, blinding panic at the moment of engagement.

[B)The Dead and the Weak[/b]: Her tradition possesses a darker side the ability to temporarily call upon the spirits of the recently deceased to animate a corpse. Because desecrating remains is a strict taboo within Mandalorian culture, Kes restrains from this practice out of profound respect for her people. Instead, she channels the “transferable skills” of this necromantic art into the living. She manipulates the minds of the weak-willed, turning them into temporary puppets to open blast doors or walk into their own traps.

Kes’s unique communion with the Loa-Vril made her an invaluable asset to Clan Lok. Unfortunately. During a brutal contract on the harsh world of Huurang, the clan clashed with the legendary Bone Wraith. The beast was a nightmare of sinew and armored plates, and in the chaos, Al’raad Lok was mortally wounded.

Kes fought frantically to save him, utilizing her medicinal knowledge and channeling the life-force of the surrounding flora to knit his flesh. But the Loa demanded a price she could not pay in time, and Al’raad passed into the Manda.

Driven by honour, Kes refused to let his legacy falter. She assumed command of the next hunting party. Utilizing her tracking trances to predict the Wraith's every movement and binding the beast’s luck with a devastating, multi-layered hex, she led the next hunt to a hard fought victory. They brought the wicked beast down, securing Al’raad’s memory.

Today, Kes Lok is a proud, respected member of the Hunt. She rarely spares a thought for Vestar, and even less for the nameless sect that abducted. Her identity is mandalorian.

To traditionalists, she looks like a shaman or a witch. She carries herself with the quiet, confidence of someone who walks constantly with one foot in the grave and the other on the trigger. She is a Mandalorian through and through, but her hunt is guided by spirits the rest of the galaxy doesn't appreciate.

PERSONALITY

Visually, her Mandalorian armor is highly customized, its plates lacquered in deep, earthy tones. Etched subtly into the beskar are the protective veve symbols of her tradition, looking to the uninitiated like intricate tribal filigree.

Instead of a traditional cape, she wears woven, patterned sashes across her waist. Her hair is intricately dressed in traditional braids of her hunt, and bound with charms, small bones of significant kills, and tokens of remembrance for Al'raad.

Kes is a thoughtful and deeply spiritual person but quick to find her heat. She is incredibly loyal to her vod, specifically other members of the hunt and she is devoted to their god, incorporating worship into her force rituals. She likes the quiet and can sometimes snap at people that are loud when there is no need.

Unlike many who might be called witch, her rituals are private and personal. There is no need for dancing around bonfires sharing secrets with all manner of invited guests. She has a distaste for that and in fact she sometimes struggles to understand how those people can hear their connection to the force over the noise. She follows the resolnare but prioritises the teachings of Ha'Rangir. Some of her practices are a little outside of decent Mandalorian society and she understands that.

STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES

divtexture.png

STRENGTHS
+Master Tracker- Like all those of the hunt she trains her tracking skills religiously and combined with her force powers she is adept at finding a target
+Force use- Her gifts are not flashy or world ending like some. But they are gifts and with psychometry, foresight, charms, mental manipulation and other powers at her side she is a capable warrior.
+Gunslinger- She enjoys pistol combat and it ties in well with her mild foresight, being able to get in close and hit the right spots at the right time.
+Icarii durability- Icarii are phenomenally durable, able to regenerate from wounds that would kill most species. As long as her head is intact, she's probably not done hunting.
+Versatile Combatant- Mandalorians dont pick one weapon, they might favour one, and Kes does, but they are expected to be skilled with anything they might need to use to kill.
+Strong Will- She held off the machinations of the forc sect as a child. This resilience has followed her to adulthood.

WEAKNESSES
-Irritable- She can be moody and ill tempered, having little patience for otherwise minor irritants.
-Force scent - Like it or not, the darkness follows her around and those attuned can detect it. She can charm herself to disguise it, but she does not like to as it dishonours the loa-
-Hunter's Tunnel Vision - Once Kes commits to a particular target she can become hyperfixated, often missing the bigger picture and slipping into a state of ritualised pursuit.
-Technological weakness - She knows how to use her personal tech, and to fly a fighter. But she isnt good with technology, it is at odds with her nature and she simply takes longer to learn those things. It is a smapl price to pay for the other things she has learned.
