A few days after Helix Station, their home on Empress Teta had settled back into the kind of calm that felt earned, the kind that arrived slowly after chaos rather than rushing in all at once. Rain drifted across the wide windows in soft, slanting lines, turning the city lights beyond into blurred ribbons of gold and white. Inside, the house was warm with lamplight, clean counters, and the lingering scent of dinner.

Aren had cooked, though EL had insisted on helping from the moment ingredients appeared. The droid's balance was graceful, her voice pleasantly expressive, and her confidence in every domestic task was absolute, whether justified or not. She had chopped vegetables with theatrical precision, corrected Aren twice, complimented Omen once, and attempted to season three dishes simultaneously. Eventually, Aren had pointed toward the doorway and informed her, with affectionate firmness, that she was no longer needed in the kitchen for the next half hour. EL had placed one hand dramatically over her chassis, declared herself unappreciated, and exited with the wounded dignity of a stage performer denied her spotlight.

Now the house held only the quiet sounds of rain, utensils against plates, and the soft mechanical hum of a home that had been lived in long enough to feel steady again.

Aren sat beside Omen at the kitchen table instead of across from him, angled slightly toward his side so their knees now brushed beneath the wood. She wore a soft, dark shirt and comfortable lounge pants, clothes chosen entirely for ease. Her purple hair hung loose over one shoulder, a few strands falling forward in a way she absently ignored.

In the pocket of those pants, the ring box rested close against her thigh. She had kept it there since he gave it to her. Not forgotten. Not avoided. Simply held close until she could answer the way she wanted to.

For a while, she said nothing, content to eat beside him and let the quiet settle around them, the kind of quiet that only existed when there was nowhere urgent to be and no one demanding their attention.

Eventually, she set her fork down and turned slightly toward him, one hand coming to rest over his forearm. Her touch was gentle, steady, familiar.

"I missed this," she said softly.

The words carried far more than dinner. They meant home, safety, the simple comfort of him beside her without smoke or blaster fire between them. Her fingers traced once along his sleeve before settling again.

"You are much easier to love when you are not provoking armed criminals," she added, warmth threading through the dry humor. A faint smile touched her mouth. "Though apparently I have become flexible."

She studied him in the gentle kitchen light, her expression open in a way she rarely allowed when life was moving too fast. The affection there was quiet but unmistakable.

"I know what I'm like when I'm working," she said, her voice lowering into something honest and unguarded. "I narrow down to the problem in front of me until everything else blurs at the edges. I know that can make me seem far away."

Her thumb brushed slowly across his arm, a small, grounding motion.

"But far away is not the same thing as uncaring. If I miss something in the moment, it usually means I'm trying to keep everyone standing long enough to come back and feel it properly afterward."

Her hand slipped from his arm to her pocket. For a moment, her fingers rested over the box, feeling its familiar shape, before she drew it out and set it gently on the table between them. The motion was careful, almost tender.

"I've kept this with me since you gave it to me," she said, her tone warm with something deeper than amusement. "You chose to hand it to me while I was dismantling a trafficking network. That level of confidence is either charming or deeply irrational."

She shifted closer, not dramatically, just enough that her shoulder brushed his, her presence settling against him with quiet certainty. Her forehead rested lightly against his temple, a soft, lingering contact that carried more meaning than any kiss could have.

"I never said no," she murmured.

Her hand found his beneath the table, fingers intertwining with his in a slow, deliberate motion.

"I was waiting to say yes at home," she said, her voice warm and steady, "where I could look at you properly when I did."

Well, at least he had gotten a compliment from EL; that's more than he expected. And Aren must have been feeling romantic tonight, more than he had ever seen before. Something was definitely up with her... Guess he would have to wait and see what it was. But for now, he just soaked up that it was just them both together, something with her new shop and his responsibilities, training Jett, was increasingly rare.

His thigh didn't part from being against hers as they ate, Omen thoroughly joining their meal they made together. The only thing that was more delicious was the person beside him as they sat there, glued together like they were never going to come apart. And as much as he wanted to say something like how great the meal they made together was or how radiant she looked when she wasn't even trying, he even knew better than to break this perfect silence.

He felt her touch before he heard her voice. Hell, it felt like the clone blacked out for a brief few seconds, having to steady himself before he could refocus on what the purple-haired wrench goddess was saying. "I missed this too..." Omen reached out for his mug of his own-made tihaar to clink it with her wine glass. "And here's to having many more." One knows they could always use more perfect nights like this.

The criminal joke earned her an eyeroll with a begrudging smile attached. "So you would have just left all those people there?" The disappointed clicking sound he made with his tongue told her, "Shame on you," better than the words could. "And yes, I know your flexiable. I've seen it myself in many different... settings..." Settings only they would know what happened in.

She gave him the look that like usual, made him melt into his seat. It was a miracle he kept his tongue from rolling out. But when she finally admited what she thought at as her fault, all he can do is laugh. Managing to recover, he started to try to reassure her that she was fine just the way she was. "Hun, you may think its a fault but I love watching you work. I just bring myself along to make sure you know not everything is life and death." His hand transfered over to her knee and gave it a squeeze as he shared that same open and honest look right back. "I'm the person who doesn't let you work yourself to death and in our business, it can literally be death. So I'm here, whether you want it or not." Hell, Omen would handcuff himself to her if it meant he could keep her close.

The Clone wondered what Aren was getting at when she said "Feel it properly afterward." Atleast until she took the ring box out... She must have wanted to return it. Omen's body lanugage seemed to droop in front of her eyes as he slumped down in the chair, defeated as he mumbled. "Its okay... I can take it back til a better time..." Just when he thought things were going so well too... The Clone reached out for the ring box, only to then rest his hand on hers when her warm told him something different was about to happen.

When she said his level of confience was irrational, Omen's spirit sparked up abit, not being able to help but chuckle softly. "I think we both which one that... I'm sorry, I just... I didn't know when I would have to courage to actually say the words and I had been holding onto that ring for about a month, waiting for the right moment to ask. But there was just never a right time so and its hard enough to drag you out of that shop to a good place to propose, much less actually do it so... Figured making it into what I thought was some kind of sneaky surprise would make it easier. Guess... I was wrong..." His eyes were focused on the table as she could see tears threatening to fall down his cheeks. This was the first time ever she had seen the clone actually cry. But one way or another, feelings would be coming out today, whether incredle joy or a pit of sadness.

That contact, their heads resting against each other meant more to him than anything else in the world. Despite the brave face he put on, Aren's rejection in the moment had absouletly destoried him on the inside. Like Life had let him get so close to being happy before swating it all aside once more. And he didn't know he would actually survive that destruction this time.

That once sentence though, "I didn't say no" was enough to make him right the emotional ship for now and wipe his eyes. When Aren said that she had wanted to say yes when they got home, the Clone gave her look that told if that if she was joking, he might actually break this house down into rubble with just his fists. Taking in a raspy breath, even though Aren could feel his body nervously shaking as she could feel the goosebumps make themselves known on his arm. Still he asked the question he had wanted to ask since they had reconnection. "So... Aren D'Shade... will you marry me...?"

Aren D'Shade Aren D'Shade

Aren had watched every emotion cross his face.

The teasing confidence, the easy warmth, the attempt to steady her when he thought she was doubting herself. Then the way his shoulders sank when he believed she was returning the ring. The fragile hope that rose again piece by piece as understanding reached him. And finally, the tears he had not hidden, the raw honesty of someone who loved deeply enough to risk being broken by it.

She loved him fiercely for all of it.

By the time he asked, her own eyes had softened with tears she had not noticed gathering. There was no embarrassment in them, no instinct to hide what he had drawn so effortlessly from her. She simply looked at him as if nothing else in the house, in the city, or in the galaxy could possibly matter more than this one moment.

Her hand tightened around his.

Then she reached up and cupped his face with the other, thumb brushing away the dampness at his cheek with a tenderness that said more than any speech could.

"Yes," she said softly. The word was immediate, certain, and full of feeling. "Yes, Omen." A small laugh escaped her through her own tears, warm and breathless and happy. "Of course, yes."

She leaned forward and kissed him slowly, lovingly, lingering there as if sealing the answer into the space between them. When she pulled back, her forehead rested against his again, her smile trembling with joy.

"I love you," she murmured. "I love your terrible timing, your reckless heart, the way you refuse to let me disappear into work, and the way you keep choosing me."

Her fingers pressed the ring box gently into his hand.

"So ask me properly," she whispered, eyes shining now with open affection. "And put it on my finger so I can spend the rest of our lives making fun of how badly you first tried to do this."

Yeah... Aren was gonna give him a heartattack some day... Maybe they would give them to each other. But Omen looked forward to the every day they could spend together before that happened. As their lips embraced, Omen traced back how fate got them here to this moment. What would have happened if he had never been able to take this incredible woman out to dinner on that one special day. His heart certainly wouldn't be beatting as fast without her in the room.

Aren just saying yes left his speechless. It took him a moment to proess what she was saying, the love Aren was showing him. He could only reply with his own. "I love you too... I love how you ground, are my perfect other half. I love you even when you are a stick in the mud because I know you have a good reason for it. And I love the rare moments I can make you laugh and feel joy under that cold exterior. I love you Aren D'Shade, with all of my heart." He could probably go on and on about he admired her and her qualities for the rest of time, but he said that importart words "I love you".

When Aren put the ring box into his hand, he quickly reached into his pocket and pulled out his holotablet, putting on a very romantic song and getting on one knee, offering the box out to her like he had seen on every romantic holomovie. "Will you marry me Aren D'shade?" When she hopefully said yes without changing her mind last minute, he slid the ring onto her finger and pulled her into his embrace, trying to let the million questions in his head like how was Aren going to take his last name when he didn't have one and if they were going to have a ceremony or not ruin the beauty of this moment.

Aren D'Shade Aren D'Shade

Aren should have laughed when he reached for the holotablet, should have teased him for suddenly needing romantic music after she had already said yes, or for dropping to one knee in their kitchen as though every holofilm in the galaxy had trained him for this exact moment. But the sight of him there, so earnest, so open, so completely stripped of every layer of swagger he usually wore, nearly broke her composure entirely.

For all the bravado and charm he carried so easily, there was something disarmingly honest in the way he looked at her now, something that left no room for cleverness or deflection. He was not performing. He was not trying to impress her. He was offering her the truest part of himself, with not a single defense left in place.

Her hand rose to her mouth as tears gathered again, and when she lowered it, she was smiling with pure, unguarded joy.

"Yes," she breathed, laughter and emotion tangled together in the single word. "Yes, you ridiculous man." Then her voice steadied, warm and certain. "Yes. I will marry you."

She held out her hand and watched him slide the ring into place, and the moment the band settled against her finger, something deep inside her seemed to quiet and bloom at the same time. She looked at it only briefly before her eyes returned to him, drawn back as though the ring made sense only because he was the one giving it.

Then she stepped into his arms.

Aren went without hesitation, wrapping herself around him fully, holding him with a fierce, joyful certainty that said everything she felt without needing language at all. She laughed once through her tears against his shoulder, then lifted her face and kissed him again, slow and deep and overflowing with love that had nowhere left to hide.

When she finally drew back enough to see him clearly, both hands rose to cradle his face.

"I love you," she said quietly, her voice steady with truth. "I love your heart, your stubbornness, your terrible timing, and the way you keep choosing me over and over again."

Her thumbs brushed gently along his cheeks. "And for the record, this was already perfect before the music." A faint smile curved her lips. "The knee did help."

She glanced down at the ring again, turning her hand just enough to catch the light. Wonder softened her features for a moment before she lifted her gaze back to him, still close enough to feel every breath they shared.

"We'll figure out the rest later," she murmured. "The details, the plans, whatever comes next can wait until tomorrow or the day after that. We have time for all of it now."

Then she leaned in and kissed his forehead with quiet tenderness, lingering there for a heartbeat before resting against him again.

"Right now I just want to stand here with my fiancé and be happy," she said softly, the word fiancé carrying its own delight as though she wanted to hear it aloud again simply because it belonged to them now.

She let herself remain in his arms for another moment, smiling against him before looking up once more, warmth bright in her eyes.

"Though I should warn you," she added with gentle amusement, "EL is going to be deeply offended that she missed this, and I suspect we will both be hearing about it for weeks."

Hey, Aren wanted a proper proposal, that's what she would get. With her, he always put the best of himself (And the worst part of himself) forward. How she accepted him after all that he would never know. The most important part is that she did.

Then she stepped into his arms, making it feel she was only one who had ever belonged there. He kissed her with all of the force he could muster after his emotions had been torn apart and sewn together again. When they finally broke apart and she kept whispering sweet nothings in her ear, all Omen had to say is this. "All I have to say is this. I want you for whatever time we have Aren D'Shade. Married or not married, as long as you are here, that's all matters to me." As Aren said the knee could help, all Omen could do is roll his eyes. "Sounds to me you just like me in comprising positions."

At the mention of the details and plans, Omen gave her a smirk. "We could just tell your parents we are eloping, see which one has the heart attack first." He leaned in to whisper playfully in her ear. "I'm mainly interested where the honeymoon is going to be. For oblivious reasons~" And who knew what those reasons could be.

When Aren mentioned EL as they held each other, Omen could help but smirk and show his teeth. "Are you kidding, she probably is wire into all of the security cameras, we will probably find her with her circuits fried of happiness tomorrow." Omen took one of her hands and brought it to his lips, pressing his lips gently against it. "What should worry you more is how we are going to spend the rest of tonight~"

Aren D'Shade Aren D'Shade

Aren listened to every word as though it mattered enough to be memorized. With Omen, it usually did.

The softness in her expression deepened when he told her he wanted her for whatever time they had, married or not, as long as she was there. That simple honesty struck her harder than grand speeches ever could have. It was so entirely him to cut through everything complicated and land on the truth with both feet.

Her hands slid up to rest at the back of his neck, fingers threading lightly into his hair as she held him close. "That," she said quietly, warmth filling every syllable, "is one of the many reasons I am marrying you." She kissed him again, slower this time, lingering in the tenderness of it before drawing back just enough to meet his eyes.

"And for the record, I do enjoy you in compromising positions," she added with calm seriousness that lasted only a second before amusement curved her mouth. "Especially when you put yourself there."

The mention of her parents earned a low laugh, rare and unguarded. "No," she said, already shaking her head. "We are not opening with eloping and attempted manslaughter in the same sentence. We will ease them into the idea that I chose a charming menace for life."

When he whispered about the honeymoon, color touched her cheeks in a way she would later deny if asked. Her eyes narrowed at him with affectionate suspicion.

"Oblivious reasons," she repeated dryly. "Of course." She knew exactly what he meant. At the mention of EL, Aren exhaled a laugh and glanced toward the doorway as if half expecting the droid to stride in dramatically that very second. "If she recorded this, I am wiping every file she owns." There was no real conviction in it.

Then he kissed her hand, and the look he gave her afterward made his final question unnecessary. She felt the shift in the room, the warm gravity of being wanted by someone she wanted just as fiercely in return. Aren stepped closer until there was no space left between them.

"I imagine," she said softly, voice lowered to something intimate and playful, "that the rest of tonight will involve me reminding you that I said yes."

Her fingers curled into his shirt and tugged him gently away from the table. "The dishes can wait. The city can wait. Even EL can wait." She leaned up to kiss him once more, smiling against his mouth. "But my fiancé," she murmured, savoring the word again, "has kept me waiting long enough."

With that, she drew him with her toward the rest of the house, laughter and warmth following them out of the kitchen while the rain continued softly beyond the windows.
