KD12-1 "Interceptor" Defensive Battery

Ammunition Type: variable payload explosive canisters including:

* Ionic Charge Canisters - This weapon works much like the Flak cannon but yields a wider ionic dispersion projectile. When fired from the Launcher, the canister explodes doing two things.Utilizing a shaped charge It creates a anti-ionic barrier behind it which repels ion energy away from the vessel. Then the canister explodes releasing smaller Ionic discharge pods. These pods fire from a shaped charge which scatters them all away from the ionic barrier then each pod explodes releasing a massive electrical charge. Multiple Launchers can create a ionic shield effect which canopies the vessel in a ionic storm disabling any attack craft or projectile inside the charge canopy. Duration of the canopy is approximately 3 minutes and 37 seconds. decreasing in strength through out the time period. The launcher is approximately the size of 2 Quad Lasers and launchers 4 canisters. This is an advanced ionic weapon that can disable targets before they can hit our ships.
* Chaff Canisters which explode releasing massive amounts of debris into incoming projectiles trajectory.
* Flak Canisters which offer indirect defense from both attack craft and incoming projectiles.
* Plasma Charge Canisters designed to attack the shielding of attack ships as they close for attack runs on the ship mounting the Defensive Battery,
* Micro Proximity Mine Canisters worked much like flak by releasing a field of small mines into the path of incoming attack craft and projectiles. Unlike flak these did not explode when fire. The mines had a proximity sensor built in and only detonated when a projectile of attack craft moved within five meters of the mine.


Ammunition Capacity: Each battery has it's own cased ammunition reservoir holding 200 various pay load canisters
Effective Range: Capital vessel defensive gun range.
Rate of Fire: Battery can load and fire up to 4 canisters at once. Slow reload after firing due to the launcher having to reset into a loading position to reload.

Description: The KD12-1 Interceptor Defensive Battery is a modernized platform based on very old technology. Utilizing a short ranged mechanical launching system the "Interceptor Battery" as it has come to be know, fires large canisters which upon reaching its variable timed delay explodes releasing which ever weapon system it carries. The technology of the weapon system is thousands of years old and outdated by modern standards. Utilizing the system in a defensive role rather than offensive, a close support weapon system is born from weapon systems deemed useless for thousands of years.
Equipped with the new C.A.S.S. system the ammunition In its reinforced Case magazine, can be selected and fire in any combination of up to four of its pay loaded canisters at one time.

To clarify, does this weapon count as four defensive weapons towards a ship's armaments?

Sure sorry It was late and I did not see the one request.

Basically the Canister has a 2 part ignition sequence. When the canister is released and ejected by a mechanical process it then fires a short burst of chemical thrust to get it out where it can activate on a mechanical timed trigger. Once activated "stage 1" detonates the canisters casing ejecting the small ion charges. These are basically a group of advanced Ion Grenades or micro ion mines. Once these are ejected the Anti-ionic barrier "Stage 2", which is basically an Ion Shield Projector that is concentrated away from the ship, blocks the Ionic explosions when the charges go off. The ionic mines are on a delay so that they go off in delayed from one another giving the field created by the canister the sequential time of the field being effective.
