OTHER:

Many of Kayra's skills represent her former life as a Nightsister assassin. She is talented in the areas of stealth, ambush, and deception, especially in forest environments.

Kayra has a natural affinity with animals and gets along better with them than most. She also has the ability to survive in harsh environments.

WEAKNESSES:

Overconfident: In the face of danger Kayra often overestimates her abilities while forgetting her own limitations. This is a trait that may be exploited by her enemies and often gets Kayra stuck in compromising situations.

Technophobe: While Kayra has adapted piloting a starship, she still struggles with some of the more advanced technology available to the average spacer. Computers and datapads are more irritating than helpful for Kayra, and she outright distrusts most droids.

APPEARANCE:

Kayra appears as a standard zabrak, with pale orange skin decorated with ritualistic black tattoos. Her hair is long, black, and typically braided. 12 vestigial horns protrude from her skull, giving her a slightly fearsome appearance.

Kayra's wardrobe largely consists of dark robes designed to avoid attention while maximizing mobility. Kayra has always preferred practicality over fashion, and her past as an assassin has her unconsciously gravitating towards the shadows.

BIOGRAPHY:

The stars in the sky turned into long white lines and Kayra's stomach began to do somersaults as the ship jumped off into hyperspace. Almost immediately she could feel the difference, the emptiness. She was finally free. It was finally gone. The omnipresent darkness she had felt buzzing at the edge of her mind for as long as she could remember was gone, and in its place, nothing. Kayra began to feel light-headed. Joy and excitement pulsed through her twin hearts. Maybe this is what hope felt like.

The planet of Dathomir is a dark and unforgiving place radiating with the dark side of the Force. Among its inhabitants are the Whispering Plains Clan, a tribe of Nightsister witches who draw upon the energies of their planet to fuel their dark magic.

Like many of its kind, Whispering Plains Clan is governed by a rigid caste system with human females at the top and zabrak males on the bottom. Kayra was born the daughter of Jansa Gun An, one of the clan's more prominent witches, and a male breeding thrall.

At first Jansa was disappointed that her daughter had been born resembling more of her zabrak father than her human mother, and raised Kayra with little more than empty disinterest. Jansa's attitude changed, however, when Kayra's connection to the Force grew strong enough to be noticeable.

Realizing Kayra's potential, Jansa pursued her daughter's development with a furious intensity. From a young age Kayra was taught how to draw upon her planet's dark energies to fuel the ancient magics of her people. She was also trained in the martial arts by her clan's best warriors, as both Jansa and the Whispering Plains' nightmother saw a future for Kayra as a deadly assassin.

Kayra's childhood was as harsh and brutal as the planet she was raised on. While her Force abilities had earned Kayra her mother's attention, Jansa's affection carried a much higher price. Kayra was constantly challenging herself in an effort impress her mother, and failure was swiftly punished.

Additionally, despite her status as a witch in training, Kayra was looked down upon by both her betters and her peers for having been born a zabrak. This discrimination helped Kayra develop sympathy for the zabrak males in her clan, who were treated as slaves by the ruling caste. Kayra's sympathies for the Nightbrothers only grew as her abilities in the Force developed. Kayra could feel the living Force within them just as strongly as in her sisters, which perplexed her as to why the two groups were treated differently. Such concerns were quashed quickly whenever she brought them up, and soon Kayra resigned herself to say no more on the issue.

Many times Kayra's harsh training threatened to break her spirit, and it was during these times she would rush off into the wilds, determined never to return. Then reality would set in and she would return, but not before stopping to meditate in the peace and quiet of Dathomir's untamed wilds. Eventually she stopped trying to run away, but she never stopped rushing out for a night to re-center herself and dream of visiting distant worlds. Unfortunately, no amount of wishful thinking would help her escape Dathomir.

At the age of fourteen Kayra underwent her clan's initiation ritual, marking her body with stylistic tattoos and swearing her undying allegiance to Whispering Plains' nightmother.

By the age of seventeen Kayra was tasked by the nightmother to assassinate a promising young acolyte of the Weeping Stone Clan, who were Whispering Plains' chief rival. The assignment would give Kayra the chance to serve her clan and test her abilities, and despite her misgivings she obeyed her nightmother and ambushed her target late one night by the river. The encounter was short and swift, with Kayra succeeding and proving herself as a worthy assassin.

The catalyst for Kayra's escape would be when a Jedi scout crash landed his ship on Dathomir. Kayra, who was nineteen at the time, was sent to investigate the crashed ship. Upon arriving at the crash site, she followed the Jedi to the village of the Weeping Stone.

Despite having enough information to return back to her nightmother, Kayra's curiosity regarding the newcomer, who was the first off-worlder she would meet, drove her to infiltrate the camp to take a closer look. She managed to sneak right into the hut the Jedi had been provided, only to be greeted with a lightsaber pointed at her neck.

The Jedi could feel the darkness within her, forged from over a decade of drawing upon the dark side of the Force. Fortunately he could also sense that she intended him no harm, and was there to merely satisfy her own curiosity. Sheathing his lightsaber, the Jedi offered to tell her a little about the Order of the Silver Jedi.

Fascinated by the offer, Kayra accepted, and the Jedi told her a little of his order. She enjoyed his stories, but was hesitant to stay long while undercover in the village of her ancestral enemy. She muttered an excuse and escaped back to her own people, where she informed them of where the Jedi had taken shelter.

Unfortunately the elders of Whispering Plains deeply mistrusted Weeping Stone, and believed it was only a matter of time before they convinced the Jedi to take their side in the clans' feud. The elders of Whispering Plains ultimately decided an alpha strike would be the best course of action in order to take Weeping Stone and the Jedi out.

Kayra was chosen to accompany her mother and people into battle. The next night they struck the Weeping Stone village from under the cover of darkness. As fate would have it, Kayra soon found herself locking blades with the Jedi. While she put up an admirable fight, she was no match for a trained Jedi and he was able to knock her Force-imbued blade right out of her hand. The harsh lessons of Dathomir had taught Kayra to not expect mercy, yet mercy she was granted as the Jedi let her escape.

In the end, Whispering Plains' surprise offensive was a failure, as the Jedi Knight had managed to lead Weeping Stone to victory.

As her clan re-grouped, Kayra learned from her mother that since Whispering Plains could defeat their foe through the might of arms, they would turn to the dark side in a sinister ritual. Kayra found such practice dishonorable, especially since she felt she owed her life to the Jedi who had spared her. Even worse, she learned that several sacrifices were required for the ritual, and those sacrifices would come from the clan's Nightbrother population.

Betraying her clan, Kayra rushed off back to the Weeping Stone to warn them of the ritual. Of course the Weeping Stone clanspeople did not believe her, and even the Jedi was skeptical, but eventually she was able to convince them of the truth.

Most of Weeping Stone would start evacuating the valley in order to escape the ritual, but the Jedi, Kayra, and a small squad of warriors would remain behind to strike out at the Whispering Plains nightsisters in an attempt to thwart the ritual.

The ensuing skirmish was short and bloody. Jansa was killed in the fighting, killed by a blast of Force lightning the Jedi had deflected back at her. In the end, Kayra and her allies succeeded in stopping the ritual.

Kayra had lost her mother, and what remained of her clan viewed her as a traitor. When the Jedi's allies finally arrived to rescue him Kayra was allowed to leave with him. She was taken back to Kashyyyk.

The Jedi saw plenty of potential in Kayra, but they saw darkness to. Eventually they elected to allow her to accept her into the order and train her in the way of the Jedi - if not for any reason than to keep an eye on her.

As a Jedi padawan, Kayra had to completely re-learn how to access the Force. Not only was she too far away to draw upon the latent energies of Dathomir, causing her to feel momentarily cut off from the Force, but she needed to be trained how to avoid relying upon her emotions and instead draw upon the light side of the Force.

Eventually Kayra regained much of the abilities she had held before, with the exception of a few powers she felt were tools of the dark side and better left forgotten on Dathomir. While largely a follower of the light, the dark still raged quietly within her, its corruption never truly gone. Ghosts and memories of her dark past haunt Kayra's dreams, and while she looks forward to the freedom of travelling the galaxy and assisting others as a Jedi, part of her still feels trapped back home on Dathomir, and she fears what could happen should she dare return.
