ADVANCED SYSTEMS
  • Biosphere/Environmental Manipulation Suite
  • Wide-Area Atmospheric-containment Shield Generator
  • Hostile Environment Shields
  • TELAR / TEA Network Interface
Strengths:
  • Wide-Area Atmospheric-containment Shield Generator: Can operate can generate an atmospheric shield with a volume of 1.96×105 kilometers, (a cylinder fifty kilometers across and one hundred kilometers high), the station to hovers at the top of the atmosphere and manipulates the atmosphere within the shield. It can convert any atmosphere type to any other type, with limits of exotic materials, explosive reactions with rare Type IV atmospheres and the like.
  • Biosphere Processing: Built to repair Mandalore's dying biosphere, the processors on this ship are minature terraforming devices - the drones deployed from it can terraform the area within the wide-area shield, although they are limited in scale to small-scale alterations or cleaning / altering what is already present. They cannot, on their own, generate life where none existed or rearrange the landscape. They can however make an inhospitable environment hospitable.
  • Hostile Environment Shielding: The shields and armour on the vessel are tuned to allow it to fly through and land on planets with Type I-IV atmospheres, although particularly esoteric Type IV planets may pose a risk to the vessel.
  • Integrates with RID TELAR / TEA terraforming networks, to allow both systems to complement one another.
Weaknesses:
  • Non-combatant: With shielding tuned to environmental protection and no guns, this vessel is utterly at the mercy of other ships without an escort.
  • Slow as a Pig: The vessel is a station, not a spacecraft - it is slow at sublight.
  • The Wide Area Shield is an atmosphere shield, it can stop a hurricane, but not a pistol shot.
Description:

The K'atini-class Mobile Terraforming Station is named after a joke between the lead designer and the head of Clan Kryze. While discussing possible solutions to the problem of a long term volcanic winter, the warrior-alor turned to the designer and said in an irritated tone 'suck it up!' and so, an idea was born.

The K'atini can operate in most atmospheres and can generate an atmospheric shield with a volume of 1.96×105 kilometers, which equates to a cylinder fifty kilometers across and one hundred kilometers high - effectively allowing the station to hover at the top of the atmosphere and manipulate the atmosphere within the shield. It can convert any atmosphere type to any other type, with limits of exotic materials, explosive reactions with rare Type IV atmospheres and the like.

It functions as its name describes - sucking in atmosphere from the area and expelling it back out in the new form - used on Mandalore to clear the atmospheric dust from the newly highly volcanic planet. It could in theory be used as a weapon to alter or remove breathable atmosphere, but the station is lightly defended, slow to move and the process can take days at it's shortest.

The vessel hosts several thousand droids which can be used to terraform the landscape below it on a moderate scale - it cannot move mountains, but it can plant forests, divert rivers, clean up nuclear blast sites and the like.

The station is manned by approximately fifty crew, mostly engineers and scientists as well as ground crew. It has docking bays for several shuttle craft and external docks for corvette and freighter sized vessels - such as the Cin'vhetin-class Research Corvette often used in conjunction with it.

Orders from across the galaxy have as yet proved unspectacular - with many commentators point out larger fixed installations or a single larger mobile model would be more effective, but for Kryze's small shipyard size. However several minor planets caught between warring galactic powers and with dangerous biological or radiological fallout have expressed interest in purchasing the stations for themselves, and the possibilities for advanced terraforming teams have not gone unnoticed.
