Kashyyyk Tournament Round 1 (Toreka vs Kaine)

The wind whistling through the trees carried the scent of the forests through the arena, leaves swirling across the floor as the referee paced between the two competitors, glancing down at his clipboard. “Well, now you’re both here we can start. The nurses are here for and bumps and bruises, but I expect you to fight with honour. It’s training only so you shouldn’t end up hurt but we don’t want to take any chances. It’s combat till one of you gives up, or till the time runs out then I’ll pick a winner. If you’re both ready,” she smiled, dropping his hand down in the air, “begin!”

Although Toreka wasn't entirely comfortable without her full suit of armor, her light gray robes at least meant she would have more freedom to move about freely. Her eerie, deformed hands wrapped around the long hilt of her saber, powering it so that its icy blue glow could light up her hooded face.

Taking a deep breath, she took her stance and focused intensely on her opponent. She didn't know anything about him, but that would change quickly enough. How one danced was often all she needed to know.

At the sight of her opponent coming forward, Toreka allowed the lids of her eyes to gently close, blocking the man from her sight as she let go of any and all outside stressors. The long grip of her saber felt light once again, and the footsteps and presence of the Mandalorian became clearer.

Using her longer reach, she swiftly twirled around and made to strike at her opponent with the furthest end of her blade, the talons of her feet digging into the soil beneath them to retain her footing while her heels were prepped to launch her backward should he attempt to rush into her.

It had been a good while since Toreka had been in the heat of a dance without the weight of her armor, however comfortable it may have been, dragging her down. It still remained disheartening that her face was visible, but she merely imagined that she was back in the dark where all were equal.

Toreka hadn't thought the Mandalorian unwise enough to strike at a bird's legs, as thoughtful as it would have been to do the same against a human or, she thought, a pureblood Kaminoan.

Not a dancer, this one. Merely a fighter.

Her left foot rose off the ground and attached itself to the man's legs just as it grazed the inside of her other leg, causing her quite a bit of pain. In the brief moment they were touching, her black eyes widened into an unnatural gaze. She pressed her talons down into it to be sure of her grip before attempting to fling the man off his feet by raising the vulnerable leg higher still. At the same time, her blade would push hard against her opponent's to throw off his balance as much as possible.

Enough had been enough. She had apparently needed more training in lightsaber combat to have not realized that her opponent's blade was on the inside of her own, but just as her leg was beginning to be singed, she released one hand from her saber and outstretched it to perform a force push, clear frustration setting into her brows as they tightened down on her eyelids. Not frustration at her opponent, but rather herself. She had never fought a Mandalorian before, despite being familiar with the Makashi style of fight.

It felt as though she was merely making up for a lack of skill when she used the force in such a blatant manner, but if she needed to in order to win, then so be it.

If the push had created enough distance between the two, Toreka would then attempt to grab hold of Kaine's own saber using the force, raising it to his own throat. It was a darker side of the force than what she had been taught by her former master, but she knew the dark better than anything else in her miserable life. It should at least serve a purpose.
