Years before on the planet Tao a notorious clan leader while traveling the countryside stopped at a humble village and had a one night affair with a fisherman's only daughter(she was twenty years old). The latter became pregnant, eventually giving birth to a boy simply named Ryū. For the next several years he lived in the settlement but was looked down upon by many due to his illegitimate status. Yet when Ryū was nine years old a plague swept through the region taking the lives of his family.
He was cast out by the village as soon as possible following their deaths. Out in the wilderness alone he had to learn to survive by hunting, fishing and harvesting that he just started to learn from his family until his death.
Later in desperation he stole from nearby communities, evading security measures and their pursuit for him for the next five years. Eventually he earned unexpected attention. A group of skilled trackers led by a capable leader hunted the boy and despite his best efforts Ryū was caught. Instead of punishment or death the leader revealed himself to be his older half brother Hiroshi and the new head of the fierce Kasai Clan.
Upon their father's passing Hiroshi had learned about his younger sibling through reports and decided to bring him home to the planetary capital as a new member of the clan. Bewildered and wary Ryū slowly began to trust his brother and they truly became family while the latter taught much from how to fight, drive fly starships and street life and even a decent education with the assistance of tutors.
By age twenty he became one of Hiroshi's most trusted enforcers hunting those who crossed their clan or fighting by his side against rivals. Yet still in his soul Ryū wasn't completely satisfied especially with how many in the clan and other ones resented his presence and Hiroshi noticed as well. It became more evident as his older brother finally married to a capable wife Maki who had a child on the way. Seeing their chance, the retainers try to push their leader against Ryū as at best a liability and at worse a threat.
One day the brothers had a long conversation about it with Hiroshi refirming their bond in spite of everything and Ryū was moved by his brother's loyalty. Yet following an assassination attempt against him, Ryū pretended to be dead and hunted his would-be killers until they were no more... By then he decided to maintain 'his death' and went off-world for the first time. Taking on the bounty hunting profession he created a new persona for himself, Kage. -
