Strengths:
Despite the relatively (new in evolutionary terms) of opposable thumbs, Karran’s have very deft hands and as such excel in areas such as mechanics or crafting
All Karran’s have acute hearing, are sensitive to ultrasound, and possess a very highly developed olfactory sense.
Strong prehensile tail that can be used for grabbing or even clubbing enemies.

Bigoted. Adherence to a caste system has made most average subterranean Karrans bigoted and xenophobic
Can die relatively easily. Shooting, stabbing, drowning, fire, falls from great heights and so on can easily dispatch any Karran.
Due to looking like rats, Karrans can be perceived as untrustworthy.
Limited galaxy wide experience. Very few Karrans have left their homeworld due to the stigma of leaving the burrows. The odd exploration or delegation has happened in the past but it is a very rare event.

Diet: Karrans are considered omnivores and eat a wide range of foods, including seeds, fruit, stems, leaves, fungi, and a variety of invertebrates and vertebrates. They are generalists, and thus not very specific in their food preferences.

General behavior:
Karran’s can breed throughout the year if conditions are suitable, with females being able to have up to three litters a year. The gestation period is only 120 days, and litters can number up to six, although three is common.
Like most humanoids, Karran parents lucky enough to be born and mate in the underground cities raise their children together as a family unit providing food and shelter while the young grow to maturity. Children typically go to school and learn to be productive members of society.
Most mature Karrans find work once they reach adulthood. The range of jobs vary from as simple as construction workers or chefs or retail work to as abstract as artistry. Due to having great skill with their hands Karran artists are some of the finest in all the galaxy, with many artist styles being represented and done beautifully.
Karran’s live in a hierarchical society with most of the population found in underground cities the locals refer to as “burrows”. These underground cities are almost as a rule made up of 80%-90% Karran population with the other 20%-10% being mostly human with some other humanoid alien immigrants
Karran society is a caste based system with the highest class being made up of the minority black haired Karran’s. Some confusion is caused to those from outside the world who look to study the anthropological implications of Karran society due to pure white haired Karran(Not albino) also being considered “Black haired” and part of the highest class.
The next highest regard class of Karran are the brown or red haired Karran, the most populace of all the colored Karran, they are allowed to take many of the roles in society with many having achieved high power positions such as doctors or lawyers, with some even making it into politics. However when further inspected the black haired still rose to the highest levels of those occupations, for example all head surgeons were of the black haired variety same went for judges and every head of government in all the burrows.
The lowest class found in the burrows of Karra are the grey haired Karran who hardly ever rise above menial labor jobs. On the rare occasion a grey-hair has risen as high as being a merchant.
The true lowest class of Karran however is one that those residing in the burrow like to pretend don’t exist. If a Karran is born with multicolored fur, the sure result of mixing of classes somewhere in that Karran’s genetic history, they are shunned to the surface cities to live among the humanoid populace, stripped of all rights and viewed as exile. Multi Colored Karran’s who dare return to underground to one of the burrows are often imprisoned for life with some even being executed though the government has assured the galaxy at large that execution is no longer viewed as a humane treatment.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
At one time near a millennium ago the karran species was known for being an almost hive-minded collection of creatures with minimal culture outside of conformity. Historians and scientists cannot pinpoint exactly when the change took place but in the ensuing millenia since first discovery the Karran people have changed in exponential ways. No longer hive minded they developed a caste based societal structure which many have attributed to an unknown amount of time spent as a conformist culture.
Another thing that has changed for the Karran species is the introduction of an opposable thumb. Once again due to the species nature of living underground and the relatively new practice of keeping historical and biological records(there are no available family or medical records that predate Karran’s with five digits.) biologists are short on answers for when and how this developed. The three prevailing theories are first because of how quickly the species reproduces that evolution took hold far more quickly resulting in the modern Karran species. The second theory is interbreeding with another similar species which migrated to the world at some point. The third and most likely theory is that the four fingered Karran discovered long ago was a subspecies of the current modern Karran who like the multicolored Karran of today were shunned to the surface.
The capital burrow Hamato City was founded in 400ABY and it’s sister city Oroku was founded in 350ABY. There are several other burrows on the planet Hamato and Oroku are just largest. Like most worlds Karra was hit hard by the plague 400 years ago with the populace of Oroku dropping by two-thirds. Census records would indicate that because of the high reproduction rate of the Karran species, they were able to recover number wise relatively quickly, though it would seem the pandemic had at least a small part to play in the almost universal xenophobia present amongst the Karrans.
