OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a native species of Ahk-Ourobha
  • Canon: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Links: N/A
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Karo
  • Designation: Non-sentient
  • Origins: Ahk-Ourobha
  • Average Lifespan: Betwen 3-4 years
  • Estimated Population: Inter-Planetary
  • Description: Karo are diminutive reptomammals which seem to infest every inch of livable space on Ahk-Ourobha. Their thick scales and powerful digging claws are often the first things people notice about them, followed by their large beady black eyes.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type 1
  • Average Height of Adults: 11cm
  • Average Length of Adults: 24cm with tail.
  • Skin color: Beige, White, Light Gray
  • Hair color: Brown
  • Distinctions: Karo's powerful digging claws set them apart from other similar rodent-like creatures. Male Karo have thick whiskers which they groom meticulously while female Karo lack them.
  • Races: N/A
  • Force Sensitivity: Non-Sensitive
Strengths:
  • Swarms upon Swarms: Karo are able to reproduce very quickly with female Karo laying a dozen eggs every month or so with each egg only taking 20 days to hatch. Hatchling Karo are also somewhat self sufficient able to dig and find food on their own. A single mating pair of Karo, if left unchecked, can become a swarm of dozens in a year and hundreds within two years.
  • Digging Claws: The Karo have thick very powerful digging claws evolved to tearing through stone to get to hidden pockets of water in caves. They are fully capable of breaking through metallic weak points in structures and giving nasty scratches to any creature which tries to harm them. Though rarely fatal the unsanitary living conditions of Karo leave their claws covered in bacteria making scratch marks highly infectious.
Weaknesses:
  • Diminutive: Karo are tiny and easily killed. A good stomp is enough to deliver a fatal blow.
  • Cannabalistic: Karo are just as willing to eat eachother when food is scarce and should their population get too large it typically self cannabalizes itself.
CULTURE
  • Diet: Omnivore
  • Communication: Karo communicate with chirps and tiny stomps
  • Technology level: N/A
  • Religion/Beliefs: N/A
  • General behavior: Karo act as tiny scavengers and pests which eat practically anything they can get ahold of. They travel across all over Ahk-Ourobha, being tiny enough and having adapted behaviors to not draw the attention of Thahbalahn in the Deep Desert and having a wide enough diet to survive the southern continent comfortably. Karo also infest settlements and cities across Ahk-Ourobha, their powerful claws able to carve through weak points in metal to gain access to homes and their larders. An infestation of Karo can be devastating to a family's food supply, and plenty of measures are routinely put in place to stop them though they always seem to find a way around these measures.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Karo have always served as a 'final test' of sorts on Ahk-Ourobha. Colonists may learn to live with the giant Thahbalahn serpents and severe lack of water but it is the Karo that puts them to the real test. Karo will find a way to ruin your day by eating your food or burrowing into your water supply and draining the lot. There are more settlements than one can count who died off due to Karo infestations. Those who learn to prepare and deal with Karo, usually be spreading out their resources and being vigilant enough to prevent infestations, are those who can really survive on Ahk-Ourobha.

This knack for survival and getting into places they shouldn't have also seen Karo infest other worlds after stowing away on starcraft. They are a dangerous invasive species who can outcompete many creatures who fill a similar rodent niche due to being adapted to such a harsh world as Ahk-Ourobha. However they are poorly adapted to cold climates and many have found that the best way to deal with Karo infestations is dramatically reducing the temperature of settlements for a couple of days.
