Kaiza Pawaro

Kaiza Pawaro

Do, or do not. There is no try.
“Simplicity, patience, compassion.
These three are your greatest treasures.
Simple in actions and thoughts, you return to the source of being.
Patient with both friends and enemies,
you accord with the way things are.
Compassionate toward yourself,
you reconcile all beings in the world.”

"A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack."
—Yoda

Compassionate and soft-spoken, the young Jedi seeks to spread hope and a bit of happiness wherever her journeys take her. Unable to refuse good wine and suffering from wanderlust, Kaiza is a travelling monk with no destination. She rarely stays in one place for long, though is always quick to help those in need and fond of sharing what little she has with others, knowing the taste of hunger and poverty herself. Where many see duty, acts of kindness come to the Mirialan naturally and without hesitation, marking her sensitive to the plights of the unfortunate. She is a warrior who prefers to resolve disputes without ever raising a hand, never an aggressor; when forced to fight, always a defender of others or herself, guided by mercy and chivalry instead of zeal. Dry and sarcastic sense of humour often attempts to hide the Jedi’s emotional anxiety, particularly when it comes to battle - something she will never be comfortable with. Physical labour and meditation both offer a most welcome escape from such fears, helping Kaiza cast away the self-doubt and find inner peace.

The yellow-skinned Jedi is quite orthodox in her views and embraces the monastic lifestyle most of the times, following the Jedi code and tenets to the best of her abilities. Coming from a religious community, a firm believer in fate and its control over everyone’s life and a devout follower of the light side, the young Mirialan exhibits numerous qualities desired among the members of her order. Honourable to a fault, modest and humble, she definitely meets the widespread image of a typical Jedi. In spite of that, it would be wrong to brand her a model student; although tempered by meditation, pangs of impatience and youthful recklessness take pleasure in cracking the serene and tranquil mask of wisdom the Padawan dons. She isn’t a particularly quick learner either and thus has to make up for it in both diligence and effort.

  • NaïveKaiza tends to see the best in people, trusting there is goodness in almost every sentient. Compelled to help others, she will go out of her way to protect the innocents.
  • Orthodox – Slow to embrace new ideas. It can be challenging to get new concepts into the Mirialan’s head, especially if opposing her views that are already firmly set.
  • Pacifist – A strong believer in avoiding conflicts, the occasional necessity of combat weighs heavily on her heart. Death and suffering threaten to unbalance the Padawan's inner repose and shatter her focus.

"Do not see a lightsaber duel as a choice between winning and losing. Every duel can have many, many outcomes. When you concentrate solely on winning—in lightsaber duels as in everything else—you sully your victory. Winning becomes worse than losing. It is better to lose than to win sorely. And it is always better to end a duel peacefully than to win or lose."
—Rekpa De

The former farmgirl knows how to tend the fields and possesses a number of agricultural skills. Outside of tending crops and picking the right time for harvest, the Mirialan is adept at handling and maintaining her ages-old 6-2Aug2 hunting rifle.

Jedi life taught her the basics of unarmed combat, namely the highly valued ways of Teräs Käsi, refining her speed and aptitude for anticipating strikes. Aside from that, basics of moving objects with telekinesis and sensing living beings through the Force are known to the Padawan, just as calling upon the cosmic energy to speed her up, both physically and mentally. The only truly noteworthy power in her arsenal is the temporary conjuration of a shimmering stasis field known as Force barrier.

In accordance with her beliefs, Kaiza practices the most defensive form of lightsaber combat - Soresu. The Resilience Form provides its user with maximum defensive coverage through subtle dodges and tight bladework, relying on economy of motion and energy efficiency to outlast an opponent by minimizing energy expenditure. At the same time, she's been trained in Djem So as well for when defense isn't the best answer. Combined with the principles of Sokan, the Jedi is a skilled lightsaber wielder.

"I wear my robe so that I am warm; I carry my lightsaber so that I am safe; and I keep enough credits for my next meal, so that I am not hungry. If the Force wants me to have more, it finds a way of letting me know."
—Kagoro

Kaiza is a yellow-skinned Mirialan of average height, appearing at a glance to be rather thin. Upon closer inspection, however, her skinny frame hides a clearly athletic build, evidence of the discipline and hardships of Jedi training. Traditional ink black tattoos adorn the farm girl’s face, immediately linking her to Mirialan culture and positively giving away her race. Raven coloured, ear-length hair adheres to no style or fashion, playfully succumbing to the wind whenever possible unless tied back. A tightly wound braid is grown behind her left ear, reaching down to her shoulder. There always seems to be a tender, warm smile or a mischievous grin on her face, whether expressed by her lips or the lively flame in her emerald eyes. The green eyes in particular have a compassionate look in them when addressing the needy and helpless; Kaiza understands what it feels like to live with next to nothing. A calming presence surrounds her body and she moves in non-threatening, gentle motions.

The Jedi’s outfit shamelessly admits its wearer had worked the land in the past, proudly displaying the wear and tear accumulated throughout the years of hard work. Comfortable and sturdy, yet incredibly plain, this combination of heavy wool and leather perfectly blends in with traditional Jedi garments and declares Kaiza as one of the ordinary people, never above lending a hand. Her belt hosts a variety of items, ranging from a grappling hook to field rations and Kaiza's very own health tonic. Finally, the most crucial piece of equipment, a lone cylinder in silver and copper colour hangs from the belt – the Jedi’s lightsaber, quietly slumbering in peace beneath the woman’s long, hooded cloak.

Her other noteworthy possessions include:

It was a simple life, untouched by the ongoing galaxy-spanning conflicts. Farming on Mirial meant a neverending hardship. Cold and dry, the climate seemed to mock its victims, yet instead of surrendering, they have found a way to successfully tame the antagonistic nature and call the world their home. It wasn’t without struggle – not even modern technology held enough power to successfully subdue the unpredictable whims of nature. All depended on Fate, the ultimate perpetrator of all right and wrong. Heroism found no arable land among the small, tightly knit community; crops meant everything, the difference between life and death. Stories, on the other hand, those were popular, especially among local children. Kaiza was one of them, mind always wandering and seeking to escape the boring, monotone life. Daydreaming about adventures spanning across alien worlds, a life of constant excitement and action.

Time, merciful to the young farm girl’s wishful dreams, gifted her with acceptance. As failure taught her diligence and weakness granted her humility, she came to terms with her role. Growing up among religious folks meant taking their ways as her own, trusting in fate and its strange workings. As years came and went, there was no trace left of glorious adventures – better than to fight and die in the brutal conflicts tearing the galaxy apart.

Only once the Sith menace loomed on the horizon once more and rumours of their monstrous crimes sent icy shivers down everyone’s spines did Kaiza decide to take a more active role, a victim of fear. At first nothing more than a fresh member of the local militia, she spent much of her time learning how to fire a useless, old slugthrower. It was Fate that intervened – she wasn’t destined to fight and die defending her home. Visiting the girl in the dark of the night, a prophetic dream in which Kaiza saw herself wielding the iconic Jedi laser sword had etched itself into her memory, pounding at the doors of her mind, urging her to follow. Trusting it to be a sign from fate, she listened to the dream’s message – taking her clothes and her pa’s old rifle, the Mirialan left all she knew behind and started a new life without ever truly questioning why.

That was a long time ago. Now, lacking fear and finding herself in possession of a cylinder-shaped piece of metal at her hip, years of rigid training coursing through her veins, Kaiza has achieved her childhood dreams, yet no longer craves adventure or excitement. Her restless spirit is finally at peace, spreading compassion a new dream waiting to be realized.
