OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Fire suppression system for starships.

PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Can be installed and set-up by Osato personnel for small additional cost.
  • Digital connection enables the control panel to work on any form of personal or ship-based panel.
  • Storage tanks can be filled with other forms of fire suppression materials.
  • Depending on size of ship, multiple storage centers can be located throughout, in the event of one being destroyed.
STRENGTHS
  • Electronic Friendly: Using foam and chemical methods of fire suppression in place of traditional water-focused methods, the Kagutsuchi Fire Control Grid does not damage electronics or other kinds of vulnerable technology, designed this way due to the fact that it is used on starships.
  • Autonomous: Able to operate with zero user input or oversight, the Kagutsuchi grid has direct control over all of the ship's fire suppression systems and detects fires via a series of sophisticated sensors, and it is designed to run independent of an energy source for several hours in the event of critical damage to components of the ship.
  • Multiple Methods: The old saying 'Don't keep your bantha in one pen' does not apply to the Kagutsuchi. Utilizing both foam and chemical methods of fire suppression in all areas of a starship, if one is to fail via some kind of error or is simply not able to put out a certain fire on its own, the second method can be put into effect by the grid. Each suppression system operates independently of the other as to prevent the failure of one affecting the other.
  • Ship Diagnosis: Equipped with a limited form of machine learning much like other Osato products of this caliber, the Kagutsuchi grid is able to provide its owner with statistics and other ship information based on information taken from Osato Aerospace's in-built database and any prior fires on-board. Examples of information include which parts of the owner's ship are more likely to catch on fire and which items in-particular are fire hazards.
  • Explosion Prevention: The foam used in one of the Kagutsuchi's two methods of fire suppression, which is a rapidly expanding kind, is primarily intended to prevent explosions resulting from contact made with the fire, or otherwise. It does so by coating the fire and suffocating it of oxygen, preventing the process of combustion from occuring.
WEAKNESSES
  • Hazardous Aftermath: Although highly effective in the extinguishing of fires, the gaseous chemical product used in one of the Kagutsuchi's two suppression methods has been known to be somewhat toxic to the lungs of several species, including humans. Not lethal, it is nevertheless advised that owners wear air filtration masks and vent the air supply in the room it was used in, once they are able to land. It is recommended that the room where this method is used be sealed beforehand, to prevent it from spreading.
  • Messy Aftermath: Likewise, the foam that is used in the other method is not an easily degradable product, and is also rapidly expansive. Once it has been deployed it will quickly grow and grow, though it will eventually stop, for most ships this point will only be after much of the room has been consumed. Not hazardous to health like the chemical method, this method is needless to say very inconvenient for the starship's owner, and can only be physically removed or watered down.
DESCRIPTION
The Kagutsuchi Fire Control Grid is a fire suppression system developed primarily by Osato Aerospace, though in conjunction with Nakaioma Fleet Systems, the naval-oriented technology subdivision of Nakaioma Defense Dynamics. Able to be fitted into any kind of ship as the Kagutsuchi is more just the overall name of the storage tanks, fire-suppression material and the other technologies included in the package, as opposed to a single physical product. So long as the ship can fit the storage tanks (Which themselves can vary greatly in size, depending on the ship), along with the proper wiring and pipes required to transport the fire suppression material, the grid can be established. Suitable for both military and civilian starships, the Kagutsuchi has been known for its effectiveness at fire suppression and its quick response time, though it has often been criticised for the products it uses to put out the fires.
