K Mining Conglomerate is truly a gigantic mining conglomerate, it conducts operations all over the stars. Most of their mining efforts concentrate on planetary mining, but they also have an extensive asteroid mining network. The conglomerate uses automated mines, with completely automated shafts, wagons, automated mining arms with mining lasers, conveyor belts, sensors etc. The automated system is augmented with droid workforce. These automated mines usually expand and repair themselves too. Because of that the conglomerate needs only a very little organic workforce, usually for overseeing and adjusting the automated systems. Asteroid mining is done by mining droids who are connected into a network. This way K Mining can mine very efficiently, very cheap, relatively fast and also relatively clean. They pretty much price out the competition, or at least they try to. In some parts of the galaxy, e.g. in the Eternal Empire, the conglomerate conducts most of the local mining operations. If the client needs it, they can also refine and transport the ores to designated locations.

Apart from mining, K Mining also does construction work, it usually means building plants, factories, offices, highrises and other sites for K Corp. The conglomerate built the K Corp district and K Corp Citadel on Zakuul. They have so called mega-foundries where they mold huge unitary structural building blocks, they use later for construction.

The conglomerate also does business in the energy industry, they usually build simple reactors to power K Corp facilities, but if the need/demand arises they also plant reactors and networks to power cities, bases, industrial sites. So construction and energy is mostly in-house, but they do some work for their partners too.

K Mining is the most heavy and least digital industrial wing of K Corp, but thanks to the technologies provided by the parent company, it operates really efficiently and clean compared to others. K Mining is also sometimes subsidized by the parent company, if resource prices are really low, the competition is fierce, or a new mine seems a little too much of an investment for them, in return K Mining does the heavy lifting for K Corp, builds and powers facilities and does all the “dirty work”. Mining also provides rare minerals, which are indispensable for the electronics K Corp fabricates, so the subsidiary has a very important role, making sure embargos can’t hurt the parent corporation’s production.

Anti-Piracy: K Corp generally, but K Mining especially hates piracy and pirates, local warlords and such, in the coporations eyes they are simple criminals. They like to keep their trade routes in order, if the authority doesn’t do it, they do it themselves, with mining lasers and self-destructing ships filled with volatile resources. In the corporations eyes these are just small expenses to enforce the legal rules.

K Mining Conglomerate was founded by Th’edar Kolbert, years after the foundation of K Corp. Originally Kolbert was annoyed, irritated by the way mining companies operated, how destructive and polluting they are, how they stripmine beautiful landscapes. He was so irritated, he made K Corp engineers to design fully automated, fully under the surface droid mines to innovate the field and sell it to these mining companies, so they could work less destructive and more sustainably. While doing business with these mining companies Kolbert also acquired shares in them. Later when K Corp became really successful the logical move was to buy all these companies and combine them into one conglomerate. For years K Corp wanted to sell its mining wing, but it became so important and so characteristic it just wouldn’t make sense.
