I read awhile back that you could only be in one major faction, it started October 1st. Is this true?

It never went into effect as I recall.

You can only check in during the montly faction role call in one faction, but the "one faction only" discussion was indefinitely shut down. For now, be in as many factions as you want.

The faction leaders themselves are free to impose whatever limits they want, of course.
