Private Just Another Milk Run

Mahranee was a planet in crisis, taken by the Black Sun and controlled by various gangs who all tried to fill a power vacuum. Even the Capital City was being divided up like a butchered hog, every gang got a piece of the meal, but some wanted more. Tibera had been contracted by one of these gangs, a group of cutthroats who wanted a bigger cut. They needed a one woman army who could bust up other gangs for a fair price, but the brothers at the top of the chain wanted a little extra insurance. They had contracted Alana Calloway Alana Calloway , another warrior woman who could cause chaos amongst their enemies.

It started with a simple patrol, walking into contested territory and watching for possible enemies. It was only a half an hour into the patrol that it became clear Tibera would have company. She saw Alana, who she'd worked with before, and gave a smirk under her helmet. The armored merc raised a hand off her rifle to wave, excited to meet up with one of her few friends.

"Didn't expect to have any backup on this OP, especially not you Alana."

Tibera chuckled, walking down an alley, her eyes scanning the dark corners with extreme scrutiny. There could be danger around every corner, just like any other warzone. But, having a skilled gun hand was enough to let the big merc relax. "If we don't find anything big on patrol, I figure we can knock off early and get some drinks."

With so little to go off of from their employers, the responsibility of information gathering was theirs. It meant a lot of walking, a lot of asking questions, and a lot of danger. Doing the old school legwork got old fast, this was why she never tried to be security. All the detective work was annoying, she'd much rather just shoot some of these bastards rather than talk to them.

As Alana stumbled upon her co-worker, the Echani let out a small laugh. Adjusting her hat, she let a grin show; the kind that meant trouble. She tipped the brim of her hat and gave Tibera a lazy salute. She wore far less armor than the last time Tibera had seen her, and less weaponry as well. A blaster pistol, her wrist launcher, and a strange looking sword across her back. Bit of a change up of there was one, but the Echani had a far more vibrant energy to her now. She looked Tibera up and down an amusement dancing in her blue eyes.

Oh, and blue eyes, that was new too.

She had her own reason for being here, Alana felt someone needed to step in and make some peace on this world. Fledgling Jedi that she was, she felt she was the best suited for it. Now here she was, making some credits on the side.

"Backup? Think I'm like an insurance policy Tibs." Her hand drifted to the pistol grip of her pistol; though she didn’t grip it. "Let’s just say If anyone gets greedy tonight, they'll remember who taught them to count to zero."

She glanced down the alley then back at Tibera. "Early drinks sound good. That is assuming you survive long enough to pay for them." With that she stepped forward, boots sliding on wet stone, senses already mapping every shadow. "I’m going to guess that, we should keep our head down, mouth shut, and not start a fight you can’t shoot your way out of?”

She moved up to the woman, gently trapping her at the center of the helmet. “Don’t worry about the lack of hardware, got some new party tricks I’ve picked up. You might even approve.” She teased, giving a small wink. She had to make this somewhat entertaining after all. “Ready to head out, Tibs?”

"Ready as I'll ever be Alana. You seem real different though, got a whole new pep to your step."

Tibera couldn't place it just yet, but Alana felt like a completely different woman now. She'd always been a confident girl, but coming to the bad end of town with such little equipment was crazy! Then there was her new eyes, that was a mystery in and of itself, one that Tibera didn't feel like cracking open just yet. For now, the veil of strangeness would just have to stay tightly wrapped around her friend.

The patrol was largely uneventful for the first twenty minutes, nothing out of the ordinary to be seen. That was, until Tibera heard a scream come from an alleyway. It might not be related to anything, but it was just instinct for her to run towards trouble! Bounding off towards the darker corners of the city.

At first it seemed like the scream had no source. That was, until Tibs found a dead near-human lying in the gutter, his purple blood staining the concrete. Cripes, that meant they'd just meant whoever did this. Tibera knelt down to inspect the corpse, checking his pockets and personal effects. She wasn't idly looting, she was looking for clues.

Between a large amount of credits, some baggies of spice, and a blue bit of cloth around the man's neck, Tibera had her suspicions. The blue cloth was a calling card of a local gang, rivals of their employers. It could be just a bit of bad blood, or it could be the start of a turf war...

"This don't look good, this guy was killed mid-sling, plus they left the cash and the spice. Means they were looking to send a message. Could be nothin', but I have a feeling this patrol is gonna be more eventful. If they're willing to just gank someone like this."

“Went on a trip, maybe I’ll tell ya about it if ya good girl.” She teased, knowing that would be a conversation not suited to the open streets. She moved over to inspect the body. Alana's eyes studied to the corpse, then down to the blue cloth, her jaw tightening slightly. She crouched beside Tibera, fingertips brushing the gutter grime without hesitation. "Yeah…my guy is tellin’ me that's no random hit," She murmured, voice low and even. She was thankful for her Sector Ranger training, seemed to just be appropriate. "Leaving the creds and spice? That's a sign for sure. Someone wants this noticed. Someone is tryin’ to lure us to step in it."

She straightened, rifle resting lightly against her shoulder, gaze sweeping the alley and the shadows beyond. "Looks like our early drinks got postponed." She said, forming a grim smirk as the words left her mouth. "I say we follow the trail before the message gets any bigger. Whoever did this…they're either stupid, or overconfident. Either way, I like my odds."

Her new eyes, sharp and calculating, scanned the street for exits and hiding spots, already mapping escape routes and potential ambush points. "Guess we should stay close, Tibs. If they're serious, this isn't just about one guy in a gutter. Usually means the start of something uglier."

Then she added with a sly edge, letting her confidence show, as she draws her pistol. "Lucky for them we’re kinda used to dealin’ with the ugly."
