DESCRIPTION

The natural formation of the Junkyard Crystal began deep within the vast fields of discarded machinery, ruined vehicles, broken weapons, and forgotten scrap that littered much of Mahporeem. Over decades, perhaps centuries, fragments of various metals and alloys gradually accumulated around naturally occurring kyber deposits, fusing together through unknown geological processes until the scrap itself became part of the crystal's growing structure.

Their existence remained unknown until one was accidentally discovered within a cavern buried beneath a mountain of rusted metal and industrial refuse, where its unusual appearance immediately distinguished it from the surrounding debris. The discovery was subsequently transferred to the Mahporeem Imperial Science Division, whose researchers began an extensive examination of the strange crystal and determined that its natural density was significantly greater than that of most known kyber crystals.

Further experimentation revealed that the Junkyard Crystal possessed properties unlike conventional kyber, particularly when subjected to Force attunement. Two Junkyard Knights, each possessing a different Force alignment, were selected for controlled experiments, and researchers observed that the crystal remained neutral in its untouched state before developing a powerful resonance with whichever Knight successfully attuned to it.

The experiments demonstrated its ability to strengthen the wielder's connection to their chosen alignment while enhancing associated Force abilities, alongside its remarkable mental and plasma-blade properties. Because only a very small number of Junkyard Crystals have ever been recovered, and the search for more crystal formations has yet to produce success, each is considered extraordinarily precious, and the crystals are reserved exclusively for those who serve the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant as Junkyard Knights and have demonstrated, through their trials and service, that they are worthy of possessing such a rare and powerful artifact.

The Junk Saber, Scrap Saber, and Heavy Saber can be modified and reinforced to accommodate the unusual density and structure of a Junkyard Crystal, allowing these existing hilts to be adapted without compromising their function. Other lightsaber hilts, however, must be specifically designed and constructed around the crystal’s unique dimensions and properties, requiring specialized components capable of safely containing its enhanced energy output.
