The X-Wing(first link) came barreling in at break-neck speed. Not because Michael was being as crazy… okay he usually is, it’s the engines on the fighter. Sasori makes them, makes them for usually light freighters, and this idiot put them on his X-wing. The thrusters roared, shaking the cockpit as alarms wailed. Michael grinned, already tagging in evasive maneuvers, while BRED chirped directions in steady tones. Sasori’s engines whining like a frightened animal, the ship lurched into a desperate arc, narrowly missing the asteroids lining Naboo’s upper atmosphere.
Wooo-beep

Oh calm down! I’ve got this!

Weeep-beep

CUTTO SCENE - Michael and BRED were back on their carrier. They were running a “Post Flight” walk through. It wasn’t a big deal.

Wooo-beep

Since when did you become such a wuss?

AUUUUUUU

I called ahead!

Beep-Woop-beep

Oh shut up! It’s clear skies!

Weeep-beep

He was SCREAMING through the atmosphere. The starfighter was indeed something to be seen if you knew “Turtle”. The cockpit rattled as alarms pierced the hum of turbines. He steadied his breath, fingers dancing over the controls, plotting a course through the ionized mist. Behind him, the fleet urged forward, each ship a relentless reminder that survival depended on precision and nerve.

CUTTO SCENE - Michael and BRED were back on their carrier. They were running a “Post Flight” walk through. They looked to be doing this at the end of the day. Don’t say it….

The howl of overpowered engines rolled across the flight deck before the X-wing even came into view.

Laito looked up from securing his own fighter, one gloved hand resting against the fuselage as the screaming starfighter tore across the sky above the carrier.

"...He's gonna kill himself one day."

The modified X-wing flashed overhead, engines howling loud enough to rattle loose tools across the deck before finally settling onto its landing gear.

Laito watched in silence for a moment.

"...But, he's one hell of a pilot, though."

Helmet tucked beneath one arm, he started toward the landing pad just as the cockpit canopy lifted.

"You always fly like that, or are you just trying to give your astromech a heart attack?"

A faint grin tugged at the corner of his mouth as if greeting a little brother ~ ~

"I'll give you this fly boy.. you can fly."

His expression hardened as he folded his arms and looked sternly.

"But if we're ever flying together, don't make me come drag your burning hull out of the ocean."

ROGUE SQUADRON // FLIGHT OPERATIONS
PETRA NOLL
LIEUTENANT // ROGUE EIGHT // BB-7K "PATCH"
LOCATION: FOREIGN CARRIER TIME: AFTER
"Are you getting this?" Petra muttered to the droid at her side. The pair were circling the frankenship that had, not long before, caused a security response and a scrambling of elements of Rogue Squadron because some kid had screamed through restricted airspace in the ship in front of them. "Make sure you get the engines."

The droid -- called Patch by those that knew it thanks to its patchwork of exterior plating, scavenged from other decommissioned BB units, chittered anxiously at her as its photoreceptor scanned the ship. Ugly, the pilot thought to herself, grey-green eyes narrowing. It was almost insulting. And yet, the speed couldn't be denied. She ached to pry a panel loose and look inside. Maybe she could improve on the speed. Then again, that would probably be exceedingly dangerous.

The boy -- well, man, allegedly -- had seemed to be barely in control of the thing as it streaked through the Naboo atmosphere. Any faster and he might not have been here having this little meet-cute with Laito Kestrel Laito Kestrel a few meters away. She hoped that Kestrel was keeping Michael Angellus Michael Angellus occupied. Petra doubted whether she was doing anything illegal -- technically -- but she wasn't sure what the etiquette was of nosing around someone's ship, on their own carrier, after they'd violated sovereign airspace.

She was inclined to simply call it even, but who knew.

"What kind of laser-brain hatchet job -- " Petra began, but Patch chirped something, and Petra's attention slipped from the ship to her droid companion. Patch rolled back and forth excitedly on the deck and Petra understood; it had finished its task. Good. She turned and crossed the deck to where Kestrel and Angellus stood. "Your engines," she began bluntly, without preamble, her voice slightly Druckenwell-accented, "are likely unbalanced to the weight class of your ship. They look like they are better suited to a freighter. It's no wonder you nearly crashed."

A pause. She glanced at Kestrel, then back to Angellus, her angular face appearing even more so as her heavy brows furrowed. "Why?"

Rylen had slung a hammock up between the nose of his x-wing and one of those lifts. Shades hung low on the bridge of his nose, one arm slung casually behind his head. He was supposed to be on sweeping duty due to not following some minor rule that didn't even matter. Unpolished boots or some chit. Brows quirked in amusement as he tracked Petra Noll Petra Noll 's movement around Michael Angellus Michael Angellus 's ship.

Being nosy.

The corner of his mouth twitched into a smirk as his hammock swung lazily back and forth. Stars, where was Devin Virell Devin Virell ?! He wanted that Corellian ale.

Goblin warbled next to him. The BB-8 unit with splashes of dark green all over got sight of Patch. Rylen's smirk faltered.

"Goblin. No. STAY."

There was some kind of wiring problem. Maybe because their droids had been built out of the same scrap heap. Or maybe just Rylen's luck but his little droid was obsessed with - no, was besties with - Petra's astromech. Much to the Mirialan's greatest annoyance.

He sat up in the hammock, pointing one stern finger at his droid as its head wobbled back at him, then back at Patch across the hangar.

"No..."

Then it shot off, speeding and booping exuberantly. Rylen slowly dragged his hand down his tattooed face, giving off a long-suffering sigh and forced himself out of the hammock. Slowly making his way to where the others were. His droid waaaaay ahead of him. Pretending like that bucket of bolts wasn't embarrassing him. Again.

"Kress above," he muttered, running a hand through his tousled hair. "Oi, mates,' he gave a salute to Michael Angellus Michael Angellus and Laito Kestrel Laito Kestrel . "Looks like you'll be on sweeping duty and not me this next cycle, thanks for that." A cocky smirk at his bros direction. Even as Goblin booped and beeped, spinning circles around Patch, chittering like one of those girls at the Nabooian cafe.

"Petra," cocky smirk only widened. "Curiosity looks good on you."

What was BRED talking about? What was Michael trying to unsuccessfully quiet him down over? Well, they were intercepted by planetary patrol and were escorted to a landing bay. Originally he was thought to be on an attack vector, thus the security protocols, but once his credentials were verified and his credentials were indeed entered into the system, Michael was allowed to land.
Wooo-beep

Shut up! We got here just fine.

Weeep-beep

All Michael could see were other pilots among their fighters, ready to launch, or just coming out. Or in the case of the lackadaisical nerf that was the Mirialan on the hammock he turned his fighter’s nose into. Michael was annoyed, but he knew of what they were going to, he had been like that with The Hidden Path, the Rebel Alliance. He knew what it was like to wait for your rotation.

They’re bored. They’re not coming after me.

Weeep-beep

CUTTO SCENE - Michael and BRED were back on their carrier. They were running a “Post Flight” walk through. I told you that it It wasn’t a big deal.

Wooo-beep

They didn’t! Everything worked out fine!

AUUUUUUU

When he landed in the bay and was immediately met by a much bigger guy, one who looked like he was built more for huttball, or infantry than flight, Michael smiled.

Hey dude! I appreciate the compliment! The Angellus family bloodline dates to military service going back to the first Hyperspace wars. Since then they have had a belief, those who were pilots, that you are one of two: “You either can fly or your a good pilot. Neither was an insult, but neither was the same. As Michael thought about this, he was standing up and looking back at BRED. At least SOMEBODY appreciates me!

Beep-Woop-beep

What ingrate modified toaster!

Weeep-beep

That’s because I wrote “Property of…”!

Weeep-beep

As Michael was climbing down the ladder that was built into the ship’s schematics, he laughed at Kestrel’s assertion about pulling him out of the water. Not dismissively, or insultingly, but a good belly laugh. Naw, you’ll probably complain like an old buddy of mine… name of “Devin”, we called him “Sky Rat” he used to complain how insane I am up there...

AUUUUUUU

He was about to walk into the compound, to get yelled at and then go see his cousin “Connel” when he saw some girl… who frankly looked like she should be shooting a superhero movie… walking around his ship with a droid of her own. She looked to be inspecting it.

If you’re looking to buy one… Guardian Authority Ltd. makes them. That one’s specifically mine though. Then he heard her complaints and his brow furrowed.

Chitter Chitter Chitter

Then she stormed up to him claiming not ONLY did he almost crash, an insult in itself, but that he was nuts? Who was this girl? She’s not Ivy Maro Ivy Maro … now SHE is cool… SHE can… wait he’s thinking too much about her… great… now he’s thinking about her more… STOP…

CUTTO SCENE - Michael and BRED were back on their carrier. They were running a “Post Flight” walk through. They looked to be doing this at the end of the day. Shut up!

Chitter Chitter

I’m gonna sell you for scrap!

AUUUUUUU

You don’t like being an astromech! How are you gonna be a wingman?

AUUUUUUU

Why are you complaining, lady? I didn’t crash!

AUUUUUUU

It takes a certain level of skill to be able to fly MY ship!

AUUUUUUU

Looking over at the arrogant Mirialan made Michael miss his time in Striker Squadron, especially if this dude was in the flight he was in command of. Michael would have sat on a lawn chair and made him do pushups until Michael had gotten tired.

Who’s the lazy-butt?

From afar Devin swore he might've caught something that was akin the lungs of dying turbines. Strolling in from the far side of the deck, he moved with the feline detachment of a man who'd already seen the galaxy burn few times and cashed his last regret years ago. Rogue Squadron was a different flavor of chaos compared to his days in Striker. Less soot under the fingers you could say, but the transition sat comfortably in his blood. He still missed the old fire sometimes. Mostly, he missed Odessa.

One hand buried in his jacket pocket, he ignored the patrol droids weaving through the hangar. Pilots scrambled past like spooked nunas.

His flight jacket hung open, a quiet feth you to regulation. Something like that. The other held a crate of Corellian ale. Bottles chimed against his thigh. Rylen had been mourning the lack of booze since yesterday. Another hour of that and Devin would've rerouted a fuel line into someone's cockpit. Or maybe this was just advance payment for future favors. Who knew!

Rounding the nose of another boujee T-91 X-wing, he finally caught the scene. Michael, closet romantic and the galaxy's most reluctant guardian. The poet who accidentally picked up a blaster in a holodrama. Petra was near Turtle's ship as if she were documenting a war crime. She still struck him as the type who filed reports for fun. Probably slept with some sort of rulebook under her pillow.

The crate hit the deck with a thunk. Fortunately, the glass held. "Yeah, you owe me for the hike buddy," Devin said while not looking at anyone in particular. Fingers pried the lid back. Three cans emerged. One arc sent a bottle toward Rylen, a second followed for Laito, and the third remained in his grip as he tilted his head toward Petra. "Do you even drink? Or just get your kicks writing up violations?"

A lazy shift of his gaze found Laito. "Michael's always been one for the theatrics. Thanks for keeping him out of the brig before security could get their grubby hands on him."

Finally, his attention landed on his former squadron mate as a stupid smirk played on his mouth. "Been a minute, old friend," came the drawl. "Try not to die while I'm gone, yea? It would ruin my whole vibe."

The sound of dying machinery caught Laito's attention before the man himself appeared.

He glanced over as Devin Virell Devin Virell approached, eyebrow raised at the crate of Corellian ale.

"Great. Another walking hazard enters the hangar."

Beside him, his crimson R4 unit, Red answered with a low, gravelly brrrmmmm.

~ Years ago, a stray blaster bolt had scorched Red's vocaliser, leaving every beep and whistle warped into a deep mechanical growl. Over time, the damaged droid had developed a habit of sounding less like a machine and more like an old veteran with an opinion.

Red's photoreceptor remained fixed on Michael Angellus Michael Angellus modified fighter, silently analysing every alteration with the judgement only an astromech could deliver.

Laito caught the can thrown his way, looking it over before glancing back at Devin.

"You bring booze to a maintenance bay and somehow still act like you're the responsible one."

A small smirk tugged at his face.

"Impressive."

His eyes briefly moved to Michael's fighter.

"Don't worry. I've been doing my best to stop him from turning that thing into a very expensive crater."

He looked back toward Devin.

"Keyword being trying."

A glance was given toward Petra Noll Petra Noll

"And she's already figured out everything wrong with it, so technically we're all saved."

He took a sip before looking back at Devin, the smirk fading into something more familiar.

"Good to see you back, Devin, Try not to bring too much of Striker's bad habits with you. We've already got enough problems."

Laito's eyes wandered across the hangar, eventually landing on Rylen Grace Rylen Grace 's hammock lazily swaying between crates and maintenance equipment.

His gaze returned to Michael's fighter. The amusement faded, replaced by that familiar competitive spark that always appeared whenever another pilot pushed the limits. Then, without looking away from Devin Virell Devin Virell he laughed

"And when command inevitably hands out sweeping duty after this little stunt, I'm making hammock-boy Rylen Grace Rylen Grace do my half"

Red gave one final, satisfied brrrrrmmmm.

"Complaining?" Petra echoed, her head tilting a degree, almost imperceptible. The narrowing of her eyes, on the other hand, would be clearly perceptible to Michael Angellus Michael Angellus . "What you heard was an observation, not a complaint." The Lieutenant clearly had more to say but she became distracted when Patch gave a warble of warning before Petra heard the rapidly-approaching wheeling of another BB-unit. Without looking, she knew it was Goblin.

She cast a cool glance toward the Mirialan who was shouting after Goblin with no apparent effect. There was a clang as the droids connected, then Patch wheeled around the green-splashed ball droid in what was either a circuit malfunction or an elaborate binary-code mating ritual. "Mate," she called to Rylen Grace Rylen Grace , the affectation of exasperation in her voice. "The gremlin is accosting Patch again. If your droid gets mine all riled up again, I'm sending it down to your quarters and you can try to sleep while it asks fifty-six questions about the meaning of the universe."

Petra nudged Patch with her boot, but it was no use.

She turned her attention back to the group and specifically to Devin Virell Devin Virell . "Of course I drink. When it's appropriate," she added before reaching up to tuck an unruly wavy strand of dark hair back behind her ear. "Write-ups? Give me a break. I don't snitch; if I see a problem I just fix it. No names, no packdrill," she added, gesturing subtly to Laito Kestrel Laito Kestrel .

Patch squealed and raced over her toes, followed quickly by Goblin.

If Rylen didn't get this contraption under control, he'd be collecting it from the rafters after Petra drop-kicked it.

She tried not to wince and wriggled her toes in her boots. "You know this man?" she asked Devin. "Another one of the strays? Did have always use the wrong equipment or is this a new thing?" Petra gestured over her shoulder at the ship Michael had, in Petra's humble opinion, very nearly lost control of, forcing this little encounter. "His droid seems to know what's what. Tell him."

“Thank kress,” he caught the cold one and took a healthy swallow even as the two droids nearly took him out. A silent cheers to Devin Virell Devin Virell . The silent ‘next rounds on me’ bro-code.

Who’s the lazy-butt?

“Whoa, mate. I’ve gotta pace myself. Greatness takes time and I’m giving everyone else a chance to keep up. Name’s Rylen.”

laughed

"And when command inevitably hands out sweeping duty after this little stunt, I'm making hammock-boy Rylen Grace Rylen Grace Rylen Grace Rylen Grace do my half"

That easy-going smirk never left his face. A casual glance at Laito. Yeah, he caught what they all shared. That competitive glint. Though, Rylen tended to be driven more by curiosity than needing to be the best. “Fine by me. Less paperwork.”

Green-blue eyes of his dragged back to Petra.

The gremlin is accosting Patch again. If your droid gets mine all riled up again, I'm sending it down to your quarters and you can try to sleep while it asks fifty-six questions about the meaning of the universe."

He scratched his chin idly. At stubble that refused to grow. A devilish glint sparked in his eyes. “Huh. That’s an improvement. Last week it was fifty-eight questions.” He sidestepped, narrowly missing Patch as it went after Goblin this time. Rylen smoothly stepped into Goblin’s path and took the full brunt of the droids impact on his leg, ale jostled, a few sweet drops gone on the deck.

“Of all the blasted stars…,” one finger waggled at his droid as he stepped into Goblin’s path again. Staying firmly between it and Patch. “Don’t make me bring out the restraining bolt tonight.”

A bemoaning whistle left Goblin’s voice modulator.

It was a losing battle. And now his leg was bruised. And his ale spilled. A boyish shrug in Petra’s direction like ‘what do you want from me?’ As the droids continued to chatter at each other.

“Michael you interested in a droid swap?” A hopeful look, even as Goblin ran into his leg again. More purposefully.

“Ow.”

When “Red” came rolling up, BRED handled it with the care and grace he always does around other droids. He played the role of a jealous diva. Michael was of course oblivious to it. He was more mindful of those around him, including the approaching R4 unit. Hey dude. I’m Michael.

Warble

WOW! Look who’s jealous.

Weeep-beep

While he could understand that, Michael was, after all, being judged by the girl in front of him, he could at least TRY to be more social and tactful like he learned to be around Ivy Ivy Maro… STOP THINKING ABOUT HER! Great, another BB unit, Michael groaned, not because of another one, but because of his own. Look, I get it that mostsome of your here might not be able to handle it behind the stick of that puppy… but I can..

Weeep-beep Michael actually didn’t mean it rudely, and BRED knew that, he was trying to hide that he was Force Sensitive and actually it was because of that he COULD flew the ship, but then they would treat him differently. He didn’t want that.

Then, almost on cue, who shows up with alcohol but “Sky Rat”.

CUTTO SCENE - Michael and BRED were back on their carrier. They were running a “Post Flight” walk through. He’s gonna tell on me.
Wooo-beep

Shut up! He’s gonna tell everyone I have a diary!

AUUUUUUU

I don’t have a diary! I have a daily log! It’s different!

He gave Devin a grin, he WAS a friend after all, but it was laced with the type of venom of something bad happening if he told everyone Michael was a girl and kept a diary.

Bro! BRED cut in quickly…Beep-Woop-beep

Shut up BRAD! Right then, he knew he done F’ed up. The slamming of his eyes told everyone else. He called BRED… by his cousin Connel’s droid BRAD… It’s almost a sibling rivalry among the two…

Weeep-beep

I meant “BRED” you know I did! Out came the shockstick.

Weeep-beep

As Michael was dodging the electrical attacks of his droid, he was “offended” by Devin’s comment about “theatrics”... You’re just jealous because I made a Star Destroyer shoot itself. OW! BRED got him in the calf and he tumbled over a tool cart.

Looking over at the arrogant Mirialan who was getting beaten up by his own droid, Michael wondered if he really wanted it, or if this was just a joke. Or if he was a masochist. Maybe a little bit of all three. After all, the dude WAS sleeping on a makeshift hammock at one point.

Devin's eyes wandered up to a grease stain on the ceiling. "Good to see you too," the words came quieter than before. He cut a look toward Laito. "Don't worry, Striker's bad habits had Michael's fingerprints all over them." A crooked smile made an appeareance. "Well, between keeping my boy out of the brig and accepting free alcohol, I suppose that puts you ahead of the curve by a pretty humiliating distance."

His own need for booze spiked. A reflex, really. Something before the moment could shift into something sickeningly respectable. Earnestness always felt like a fast way to get yourself killed.

Rocking off one heel, he fixed on Petra with the kind of look saved for sensor readings that were offensive. "So you're not a snitch. Alrighty. I'll take back exactly forty percent of what I was actually thinking." He didn't wait for a reaction. With a flick of the wrist, he finally lobbed the bottle to her. "I guess for whenever you decide this qualifies as 'appropriate'. Professional opinion says five minutes ago."

Turning back to the crate he helped himself to a fresh one. That was right around the time Rylen spilled a few drops in the process. Then he nudged the crate away from the nearest droid. One eyebrow rose as he studied the pair of BB units. "They seem rather fond of each other," he said without masking the irony. "And they already communicate better than most pilots. Let 'em work it out."

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black..

His mind wandered back to the Death Star Three just as sound registered from gravity slamming Turtle into a toolbox. "That guy flies like death owes him lunch money. Michael's one of the best pilots I've gone up with. Unfortunately.. he knows it." Or so he thought..

Taking a pull from the bottle, Devin retreated one step. His arm stretched upward until something in his shoulder settled a score. "Good to see the Squadron's got it all dialed in." It was something of a lie, but it was the kind of lie that kept the peace, and today, that was close enough to the truth for him.

"Yeah alright guys, enough talking."

Laito tossed the empty can into a nearby crate as he twisted his neck side to side, chasing away the stiffness with a grunt.

"Tomorrow at first light, We should dig through the records or check-in with our higher-ups to see if we have a patrol coming up."

His gloved thumb jerked toward the flight deck

"We've got the stars and planets out there.. Seems like a good waste of time to be standing around in our hangar."

He looked over as his eyes found Petra Noll Petra Noll first

"Look lady, You can tell us what's going to break before it actually does."

Then Rylen Grace Rylen Grace

"You just try to stay awake long enough to enjoy the scenery ok hammock boy, Stick with me."

Laito's grin shifted toward Michael Angellus Michael Angellus . "And you..." he pointed at the modified X-wing. "...try not to start an international incident before breakfast, I want to beat you in a race one day."

Finally, Devin Virell Devin Virell
"You've seen enough of the galaxy to know the best stories aren't found sitting on a carrier. Come with us."

Laito looked around at the squad, his teasing giving way to something more genuine.

"We've all got different ways of flying.. so let's see where they take us."

Beside him, Red gave a low and slow, approving... BRRWrEeEErrrrrrrrmmm.

She was about to crack it open -- if for no other reason than to show that the straight-edged regulation-junkie was no straight-edged regulation-junkie -- when a touch of static announced the public address. system crackling to life "Lieutenant Noll, report to the pilot's briefing room. Lieutenant Noll to the briefing room, right away."

Petra's eyes darted hither and thither, looking to see if she had been caught out by some surveillance camera accepting a drink. But no, that wouldn't make sense. If they were on about contraband, surely Devin would be the one summoned. "Excuse me, gentlemen. Probably one of the techs complained that I made them redo the coolant flush channel," she murmured, then glanced to Devin. "Think fast." She tossed the drink back at him and turned on her heel. "Patch, with me."

The multicolored BB unit trilled a complaint -- the astromech equivalent of just five more minutes -- but on a warning glance from the sharp-featured lieutenant, the droid made a low warble and hurried to match her pace ad she strode across the hangar deck toward the doors. She paused in the head to wash her hands and tidy her hair before making her way into the pilot's briefing room.

"Your loss," Rylen spoke to Michael and BRED. A waggle of brows on green skin as Petra Noll Petra Noll 's name was called over the comms. "Just tell them Rylen didn't do it," he called after her, ignoring Goblin's bemoaning whistle as Patch rolled away. "Unless it's something good. Then Rylen DID do it!"

A devilry-may-care glint in his eye.

It was only when Petra completely disappeared that he managed to look back to the guys. The Mirialan had to take Devin Virell Devin Virell at his word about Michael Angellus Michael Angellus . Because his walking skills were...questionable.

He finished his beer like it might be taken away. Sharing a look with Michael. Like really?

"Hammock boy?" He looked genuinely wounded. For a second. "I've worked very hard to cultivate that reputation."

A lazy grin tugged at the corner of his mouth.

"Don't worry, somone's gotta be awake to bail you out after you inevitably mistake an asteroid field for a shortcut." Bold, no, probably all kinds of stupid to speak to their captain like that. "To first light, boys."

Genuinely offended, but not mad, or defensive, of the comments made by his former “Striker” mate. Michael just shot an eyebrow up at Devin. First of all, that was ONE time. She didn’t say she was only into girls and EVERYONE ELSE was grabbing her…

Shut up!

AUUUUUUU

Man! Ugh…

Then Laito joined them and immediately sensed the tension between Michael and BRED, but was joining in on the banter nonetheless, especially with the thought of how much a troublemaker that Michael was said to be.

What’s with the “Bossy Betty”? BRED cut in quickly… again… Beep-Woop-beep

Shut up!

Chitter Chitter Chitter

That’s because Tarno and Brady snuck it into my luggage sled!!

Michael wasn’t even a part of this group, or with the Republic anymore. He was just here to visit his cousin, and possibly his aunt. They’re all acting like he was going into rotation.Whatever, I have places to be. Looking at his watch, he decided it was time to leave and catch up with his family. I'll catch up with you guys later, alright? Striker up! That was more to Devin, than the others.

AUUUUUUU

Okay!

It’s a log!!

Devin let another pull of the ale roll over his tongue while his gaze wandered past the other pilots. Then a shrug arrived on its own schedule. "First light?" he drawled while looking over to Laito. "You trying to find adventure or punish us?"

On second thought... it did beat standing around.

Before he could say it out loud, the PA system crackled overhead. In his experience, briefing-room summons never really interrupted an afternoon to congratulate anyone. When Petra's bottle came flying back, he caught it against his palm without looking and let the weight roll across his fingers.

"Maybe they found out she was starting to enjoy herself." He lifted her bottle on autopilot, nearly bringing it to his lips before noticing it was still unopened. He lowered it again and set it inside the crate. "Tragic. She almost made it five whole minutes."

Rylen's toast brought him back. Devin tapped the neck of his bottle lightly against the empty one. "It's an ugly time of day. Nothing good ever happens before the galaxy's had a chance to regret waking up."

One eyebrow arched as Turtle began rewriting squadron history. "Keep going. I want to hear the part where you respected airspace regulations." Truthfully, he'd always wondered what happened to Nash and some of the others.

Devin's crooked smile lost its footing when Turtle turned to leave. Two fingers rose in the shape of an old, lazy salute. "Striker up, Turtle." A moment later, Devin added louder, "And try walking slower than you fly!"[/div]

"ROOM!"

The sudden barked command came from a senior noncommissioned officer in a standard Republic Navy uniform.

Through the briefing room door strode a man, tall, though not absurdly so, with dark, thick hair and beard peppered gray by age. Dark, assessing eyes that looked used to taking in a battlefield swept across the briefing room. His brows pinched together almost imperceptibly, but otherwise his features remained blank and unreadable. Though he wore the insignia of a Navy Commodore he did not appear the jovial, backslapping sort who came around merely to try to 'boost the morale' of the troops through good spirits.

No.

The lines on his face, hard and etched, told of man used to barking commands and scowling at tactical redoubts.

"Please," he lifted a hand, "don't mind me. I am just here to observe."

The commodore promptly moved to the back of the room, hands clasped behind his back, and assumed a position of parade rest.

@ ALCON

Laito watched Petra Noll Petra Noll answer the summons to the briefing room, his brow knitting before he let out a quiet sigh.
"
What's that all about?"

Rylen's jab about hauling him drew a reluctant smirk.

There was an obvious camaraderie among the group.

Michael Angellus Michael Angellus & Devin Virell Devin Virell shared the effortless back-and-forth of men who'd survived more than a few trips together, every jab carrying the weight of old stories. A reckless ace & a veteran who has seen enough to know when to joke and when to get serious. Rylen Grace Rylen Grace was harder to place.. But he didn't doubt his prowess. The Mirialan had an easygoing air about him until he was strapped into a cockpit.

Laito's eyes swept over them with quiet scrutiny.
So... this is the squadron."

The sharp bark of "ROOM!" cut through the hangar, silencing every conversation as the Commodore Tiberius Rath Tiberius Rath stepped into view

Laito had never cared much for brass. Not because of the rank, but because too many officers preferred watching battles from the rear instead of fighting them. Whether this commodore was different remained to be seen.

He stepped forward anyway, shoulders squared, helmet tucked beneath one arm.
"Sir."

He gave a crisp nod.

"Flight Captain Laito Kestrel Laito Kestrel , Rogue Five, callsign Hellion."

With an open hand, he gestured toward the pilots of the Rogue Squadron

"Rogue Flight B."

His eyes moved down the line.
"Cadet Devin Virell Devin Virell Rogue Six, callsign Sky Rat."
"Flight Officer Michael Angellus Michael Angellus ahh... Of Striker Squadron.." He guesses he will be Rogue seven when all aligns itself.
And "Cadet Rylen Grace Rylen Grace Rogue Eight, callsign Chef."

His hand returned to his side.

"Rogue Flight B present and awaiting orders, sir."

Only then did Laito finally meet the commodore's eyes. His posture remained textbook perfect, but there was a quiet confidence and almost an arrogance behind his gaze challenging the higher authority.

Let's see what kind of leader you are.

Michael did that silly stride he does when he turns around, waves and doesn’t break stride as he does a full 360. He thinks he looks cool, but he really looks anything but when he does it. Goodnight… Goodbye and good luck… I’m sorry I didn’t get to meet YOU sir, but have a great day and call me! We’ll do lunch!

He absolutely will not do lunch with this guy.

Warble If a droid could do a facepalm, BRED would be doing one right now.

Glaring at BRED Why do you say that? It was almost as if the Force was answering him. Almost on CUE, his comlink buzzed with an incoming transmission from Admiral Gym Halpern Admiral Gym Halpern . Long time friend and confidant to his late father, Admiral Liram Angellus. He was once of Liram’s command staff and has been a mentor to Michael since he was old enough to hold a blaster rifle. Uncle Gymbo!

Excuse me. Lt. Angellus? That was the military equivalent of a parent “middle naming” a child.

Weeep-beep

Quiet BRED! I’m sorry, Admir.. Halpern cut him off Take me off of COMM for now, son and put in your earpiece.

Weeep-beep

Michael did as he was ordered, he WAS a good officer and respected his elders and authority, well, at least when he answered to it. Slowly walking down the corridor, Michael was loud enough to be heard by everyone, and if he wasn’t… BRED hacked his comm-link long ago and broadcast it, well, his side of the conversation.I’m sorry, sir. That was un… I’m sorry? WHY? Why can’t Tarno? Or Pryde? Or even that squadron leader who is never around?! You’re right. I’m sorry sir. It’s just that… I don’t want to do this. You understand, right?

If a droid could look back and “Teehee”, BRED would be doing it right now. Weeep-beep [/I]

CUTTO SCENE - Michael and BRED were back on their carrier. They were running a “Post Flight” walk through. Why did you sell me out like that?!
Wooo-beep

Someone from Naboo sold me out! Said I was being immature!
“Unbecoming of an officer!”

AUUUUUUU

Ugh…

Sir?! Seriously? I’m a Lieutenant, though! BRED was a little too close for Michael not to notice. Beep-Woop-beep

Shut up! Michael just pointed at BRED. No, not you sir. My astromech is… well he needs a memory wipe. Yes, sir. BRED. Seriously? No… I wouldn’t think of questioning your orders, sir.

Chitter Chitter Chitter

Yes sir. Aye Aye.

Michael pocketed the comm-link after Gym cut the connection looking entirely too defeated.Joy... Looking at his watch, he stared at the ceiling for a moment like he was in school and just got detention for something he didn’t think he was doing wrong. He was an officer though, maybe not here, but he was one and he had to act like one. It didn’t matter, his Admiral was watching him, that much was certain, he just wanted to know who sold him out. Probably Devin.

Kress sake. Big bosses sure liked to come in when there was a lot of faff about. Rylen quickly kicked his empty bottle beneath Michael's ship. Unfortunately the glass didn't roll very quiet like. He winced and cast a glance to Devin.

Goblin bemoaned again and Rylen glared down at the droid.

"Yeah well, I'm not the stage five clinger, mate,' he muttered. Tried to straighten as he got the assignment from his new flight officer. A sweep of his gaze over his new squadmates. Reminded him of some of his Academy mates. They'd gotten real close until they'd been ordered to different posts. And here he was starting all over again.

"We taking that flight first thing in the morning, Captain?" Eyes went to Laito. "Permission to knacker off til then?"

Rylen did have extra cleaning duty and feth it, he had to figure out how to grab some sleep between now and then.
