Journey into Madness

[member="Anaya Fen"]'s palm-heel strike drive the bone up into Ashin's brain, and she died.

Of necessity, she'd long since acquired a sub-specialty in reading people, including a substantial precog component. When her death played out in her mind's eye half a second before it happened, she began withdrawing from Anaya's mind and turned her head. Anaya's hand slammed into her face with bruising force, split her cheek outside and in, and rocked her head back. Ashin's eyes closed.

When they opened, they glowed Bando Gora blue.

"That," she said, with a tense and deliberate evenness, "is my problem."

Anaya blew out an angry sigh through her nose.

"Right. Yours. Not mine. Redemption is a lie. There is no such thing. No matter what you do, no matter where you go, there will always be someone somewhere who will remember all you seek to bury. Someone who will never forgive you." She was surprised to find herself blinking back tears.

"Punish yourself all you want, chase good deeds around the galaxy. It changes nothing."

Ravening slid back into its sheath, still wet with Anaya's blood. She'd have to clean that later.

"Congratulations. You've stumbled onto the day-to-day truth of my existence. Why do you think I let myself be cut off from the Force? I was ready to die for what I've done. But three problems get in the way. The Councils were too weak to kill me; I'm too weak to let myself be killed; and there's still so much more to be done."

Congratulations? Does that mean we get a reward?

Anaya snorted. "You know Ashin, there's no one in the galaxy I love more than you. But you have this uncanny ability to make me want to kill you just as much." She turned away and moved to a chair, dropping into it with a tired sigh.

"You want to use me? Fine. Use me to do what needs to be done, not as a quick fix for your self pity."

Ashin's hand left the sheathed sword; she touched her cheek at the split. "All right," she said, choosing to take it at face value, minus the emotion. "The One Sith need to fall. Agreed? And we need to be in a position to take the fruits of their labours when they do."

Anaya wondered what it might be like to be a fly on the wall, watching this entire meeting play out. Maybe they'd find some reasoning her for the fissures in Anaya's mind.

The air was still thick with thick with tension so much so Anaya's head throbbed with it. She closed her eyes massaging the bridge of her nose. Was it any wonder the girl was the way she was. There were never any straight edge, nor clear paths. Everything was blurred and blinded by emotion, Anaya simply stumbled through in the hope that she's wind up on top on the other side of it all.

"Who, exactly, is 'we'?" Anaya asked, opening her eyes. "The Fringe? The Republic? You and me?"

Fat chance. Spencer's still breathing.
