  • GENERAL INFORMATION

    OVERVIEW:

Joren Kayde emerged during the later High Republic as the Republic confronted organised Sith-aligned cults and increasingly disciplined authoritarian forces that would later resemble the Imperial war machine. These opponents planned around Jedi intervention, using fear, indoctrination, and structure rather than chaos. Facing widening gaps between frontier threats and Jedi response, the Republic authorised Project Sentinel Dawn, a classified, voluntary effort to create a next-generation trooper capable of resisting dark-side psychological warfare and holding ground without Force support.

Project Sentinel Dawn focused on biological, neural, and metabolic augmentation while preserving autonomy, identity, and moral accountability. No Sith science, no mind control, and no Force manipulation were permitted. Joren Kayde, a decorated Republic Pathfinder known for exceptional composure and restraint, proved uniquely compatible. Where other candidates failed, Kayde endured, becoming a stabilising battlefield presence who countered Sith-trained adversaries without fear or hatred, denying them the emotional leverage they depended on.

Though operationally successful, Sentinel Dawn was suspended after Kayde's survival. The Jedi Council and Republic Intelligence agreed the program crossed a philosophical threshold: the Republic could now fight the Sith without the Force, but risked redefining itself in the process. Officially erased from record, the project left behind a single living outcome: Joren Kayde, a reminder that the High Republic's light was strong enough to create guardians, but not without cost.

  • HISTORY
    HISTORY:

Joren Kayde did not remember his parents. What remained of his childhood was fire, torn hull plating, and the chaos of a ship dying in a vacuum. Republic relief crews pulled him from the wreckage and gave him a name because the records said he needed one. He grew up moving between frontier stations and temporary shelters, raised by rotating caretakers and standardised instruction. The Republic never gave him a home, but it provided him with structure, and in that structure, Kayde learned that standing between danger and others quieted his fear. Purpose replaced belonging.

His early missions were against pirates: slavers and raiders who hid behind stolen transponders and false allegiances. Boarding actions in zero gravity, ambushes on dust-choked moons, escort details that became firefights without warning. Pirates were brutal but predictable; they broke their leadership, and the rest scattered. The rise of Imperial-aligned forces changed that calculus. These enemies were disciplined, ideological, and relentless. They advanced under fire, imposed order through terror, and called it stability. Kayde fought them in narrow corridors, occupied cities, and open deserts, often outnumbered, always buying time for evacuations and relief to arrive.

Encounters with the Sith reshaped everything. Their presence pressed against the mind, turning intent into weight, fear into a weapon. Kayde was never meant to face them without the Force, yet he did, first cult enforcers, then trained acolytes, then those who believed terror alone could break any opponent. It did not break him. After Project Sentinel Dawn, it failed outright. Kayde did not hate the Sith and did not meet them with anger. He denied them that leverage. He held the line, completed the mission, and moved on. Orphaned by catastrophe and shaped by war, Joren Kayde remained what the Republic had made him, not a symbol, but a barrier between chaos and those who could not fight it themselves.

  • APPEARANCE

    APPEARANCE:

Joren Kayde cuts an imposing figure without ever seeming to seek attention. He stands just over six feet tall, broad-shouldered and solidly built, the kind of man whose weight is carried low and efficiently, dense muscle shaped by years of armour, recoil, and endurance rather than display. His movements are economical and deliberate, betraying long training; he doesn't rush, and he never wastes motion. Even at rest, he looks ready, as if his body has learned to expect violence without flinching.

His face is weathered and unmistakably human. A network of fine scars marks his skin, some clean and old, others rougher, earned in close quarters. A more prominent scar cuts across one cheek, pale against sun-darkened skin. His hair is kept short, dark once, now threaded with gray from stress and age rather than neglect. He usually wears a trimmed beard or heavy stubble, more practical than styled, giving him a permanently worn, tired edge. His eyes are steel-green with flecks of grey, steady, unblinking, and unsettlingly calm, shifting from muted green to cold slate depending on the light.

In armor or civilian gear, Kayde favors muted tones: dark grays, worn blues, and dust-stained blacks. His equipment is functional and well-maintained, but never ornamental. Augmentation has subtly altered him, not visibly in the way of machinery or distortion, but in density and presence. He feels heavier than he looks, harder to move, harder to kill. To allies, he appears reassuring, immovable. To enemies, there's something quietly wrong about him, not monstrous, just unyielding. He looks like a man who has survived things he should not have, and who fully expects to survive the next one, too.

  • PERSONALITY

    PERSONALITY:

Joren Kayde is a man defined less by what he feels and more by what he refuses to surrender to. He is calm under pressure to a degree that unsettles others, not because he lacks emotion, but because he has learned to keep it contained and purposeful. Fear registers, anger flickers, grief lingers, but none of it is allowed to steer him. He acts deliberately, weighing consequences even in the middle of violence, and once he commits, he follows through with quiet certainty rather than bravado.

He is deeply principled, though not idealistic. Kayde believes in the Republic as an idea rather than an institution, and his loyalty is rooted in protecting people, not preserving authority. He shows little patience for political posturing, intimidation, or cruelty, especially when they are disguised as "order." Around civilians and subordinates, he is restrained but attentive, rarely warm, never dismissive. He leads by example, standing where the fighting is worst, not issuing orders from safety. Trust, to him, is earned through action, not rank.

Interpersonally, Kayde is reserved and self-contained. He does not seek connection easily and tends to carry burdens alone, convinced that others should not have to share the weight he chose to bear. This isolation is not bitterness but acceptance; he understands what he is and what the role costs. With Jedi, he is respectful but unawed, meeting them as allies rather than symbols. With enemies, pirates, Imperials, or Sith, he is unemotional and relentless, denying them hatred or fear. At his core, Joren Kayde is a stabilising presence: a man who holds the line not because he expects thanks or legacy, but because someone has to stand there when everything else gives way.
