Jen'Jidai Showdown

Looking up at the bright sun Nikias exited the main Voss temple. While he was no longer a padawan nor did he spend much of his time in the temple, he still preferred to return to it every now and again whenever he hoped to find a good match or to speak to his friends that were still padawans. Never having been able to actually apply the lessons that were taught at the temples due to his deficiencies in the force Nikias had been left to hone his abilities on his own. There had been no master for him, everything had been from what he had learned beneath Ganner Rhysode's holocron and from combat against the Sith.

As he walked through the courtyard Nikias could see the padawans that were out there slowly backing away from him being sure to keep their distance. The foolish jedi fear you, as well they should. They are no longer your people; they have forsaken you like they did me. The spirit of Sorzus Syn whispered into Nikias' mind.

"It's not me, it’s your fault. Now stop your recruitment speech." Nikias said waving a dismissive hand at the apparition only he could see. The Syn talisman still embedded in his chest turned Nikias into a beacon of darkside energy due to the corruptive nature of the artifact. Sighing Nikias looked around then around the courtyard. He'd contacted one of the newer members of the Sanctum in hopes of having a sparring session with the Dark Jedi. Someone that walked the same thin line that Nikias did and wouldn't be scared of letting loose on each other. He truly needed it. a way to release himself and not too many other jedi would be alright with entering such a duel. Many thought Nikias was only one step from falling over the edge into the dark... many others already thought he had. it was fine by him and he knew why. there after all weren't that many dark jedi apart of the sanctum.

The galaxy remained a storm of ever present conflict. Dissent swirled in an endless cycle, gnashing and clawing at helpless bystanders. Jedi, Sith, or otherwise, emotion was a constant to all people. Whether they denied it or railed against it, even if they embraced the negativity it chipped away at them. Doubt cast a shadow whether or not a man deigned to see it. Once upon a time, Alkor vehemently believed in a code that preached "Doubt is absolved by Knowledge." Now, he knew better.

The shifting sea of emotions would never go away, nor could a man leave it behind. Only by stepping in and walking through it without ever looking back could one navigate murky waters. No amount of knowledge alone could free a man from the world. To seek freedom was another brand of bondage from the Sith, but it was no less a chain. When Alkor sensed the turmoil in the young man who he agreed to face, he knew instantly the manner of struggle the boy faced.

Though he hid it, and though Alkor did not share his perception of the spectre, the elder Jen'jidai sensed the presence that lingered around Nikias. "You sought me for clarity through combat," he intoned. That part was not in question. "For what purpose have you invoked the dead?"

All the while, Alkor did not open his eyes. The lotus position he adopted in the central courtyard, surrounded by cluttered rocks and overgrown moss went unbroken. Only his lips moved- the rest of his body remained perfectly still, a testament to absolute discipline. In the Force, during this rare moment where Alkor opened himself to it, he was a pillar of slate gray with wisps of darkness stretching outward. Or was it that they sought to breach inward?

He had agreed not to teach the secrets of his master, or of the Jen'jidai. More specifically, he had no intention of doing so. However, one who already tread the path of a Dark Jedi that sought direction- Alkor saw no harm in giving focus to such a man. Perhaps he could right a wrong most severe.

Perhaps he could teach this young man, power is a tool and not a goal. It was important to understand that distinction. The Sith sought, no, they craved power for its own sake. They believed it to be validating, and that it could open doors to greatness. A Jen'jidai knew better.

Greatness was achieved by one's own hands.

Looking down at the meditating dark jedi, some would probably be shocked to see someone their own age in a higher position. It didn't bother Nikias at all, there were plenty of other individuals his age that were considered masters. Heck there were many younger than him in the same position. It was something Nikias had become accustomed to during his time with the Silver Sanctum. He had been a late starter after all and it had taken quite a while for him to pick up his one and only talent with telekinesis. Even longer for him to learn how to control it to the point he was at now. Ears perking up Nikias was shocked that the dark Jedi spoke first without even giving him a chance to introduce himself. Yes, his aura is strong... He will be mines! Syn said her crimson eyes glowering at Alkor.

I have told you once, and I'm sure this will not be the last. However, you will never escape. I am your jailor the same way your amulet is mines. Nikias retorted back to the spirit in his mind glad that the conversation would be secure due to the Hellyni's natural mental immunity. It had saved Nikias before in many other encounters with other Force Users that specialized in such things. It was a shame he couldn't even sense Alkor's aura, even when standing in front of the other Dark Jedi, Nikias couldn't sense his presence. The first words out of Alkors mouth had seemed more like a statement and it was correct in a way. Nikias did need to clear his mind, and also see where he stood against a Master. He had been in numerous encounters how in one way or another he had been outmatched.

"I do not willingly invoke her." Nikias said pointing to the talisman embedded in his chest unable to be removed. "She tricked me into the last host, and thus I became the host for this talisman. I'm simply holding the Sith at bay. To many others would fall to the spells of insanity and bend to the Sith's will." Nikias said looking down at the golden talisman. It had been the most powerful of the creations that Syn had created, even more so than the Muur talisman in a way if one was willing to claim the power that lay within it. "Though yes I have come for clarity in battle."

"Sith spirits are vain things," Alkor stated blandly. The notion of a phantom bored him to tears. Several instances during his tutelage took Plaga and Centaris into tombs of the ancients. On more than one occasion the departed saw fit to manifest themselves and pontificate wildly about their power, and of their command over death such that they could materialize on the plane of the living. Out of all their hubris, Alkor surmised a single thing: none of them had ever plucked life from the jaws of oblivion. If they had, their spirits would be more than insubstantial and bound to one place. "For all of their bravado, they would have you believe in their immortality and the power they hold over you. Power that they promise in return for your servitude, no less."

He rose slowly and the palpable presence that surrounded him abated. He staggered two slow steps toward the man before his eyes flickered open, and Alkor assessed the youth with a weary gaze. "No doubt the Sith whispers in your mind, eroding your waking thoughts with damning professions of her own power, and of how you are slave to her will."

Gravely his gaze set on the Talisman embedded in the youth's form. "But there is no strength to be gained from wraiths, Nikias of Makrosia. Only knowledge, which is little more than a tool." He lifted a hand and reached out for the Hellyni, and stopped just short of touching the ornate protrustion. "And once tools have outlived their usefulness, we discard them."

He wavered there for an instant, his imposing presence more than enough to send fear through any man or woman, Sith or otherwise. His darkened demeanor stared deep into the abyss of the Force, which he could feel staring back. It would be almost nothing to him to unmake the Sith.

But that decision was not his to make. He snapped round and his sleeves fell over his hands, obscuring them. "Or not," he spoke quickly. "You did not come here for talking. Come. Attack."

[member="Alkor Centaris"]

Oh he's so right. Nikias thought. Everything Alkor said about the amulet was true, all Syn did was aim to entice Nikias to a complete fall and aimed to bend the Hellyni to her will. The only reason she had not yet succeeded was Nikias' own code keeping him from taking those last steps over the edge. He had gotten close to falling off many times despite the darkness clinging to him unwilling to let go. The abyss of the amulet tried to devour Nikias many times and each time he had hung on and come back from that brink. Whether this battle continued or not, when it all ended Nikias knew he would be a changed man in one way or the other.

You and this whelp are so sure of yourselves, that is why you shall fall! Why you will both be swallowed by the same darkness that ate me and the other exiles. Syn said obviously more than a bit angered at Alkor's words. Rage bubbled out the pale woman's mouth and her red eyes glared at Alkor. Though without the power to do anything serious that was ally Syn would do.

"If you're ready so am I." Nikias said taking note of the area they stood in. The cluttered rocks, the moss, the dirt. All of it could play a part in the coming duel, a single misstep could easily spell Nikias' demise as much as any failure in swordplay or using the force. As Alkor had given Nikias the opening move the Hellyni dug into the force dragging it up both palms flipping up and facing Alkor. Nikias would release a full on push to put distance between them, while the saber clipped to his belt floated up into the air to ignite before him. The violet blade would extend from the hilt pointing at Alkor still hovering in the air under Nikias' control. With a nod of his head Nikias sent the saber in at a sudden thrust for Alkor's shoulders but with a thought it switched to a slash aimed for Alkor's waist.

Nikias was tantamount to a vortex of force energies, whether the boy knew it himself or not. All that power stemmed from the artifact lodged in his chest, and culminated at its apex as the unwitting youth drew on it. He had the will to manipulate the occult power, but not the capacity to understand how raw that ability truly was. Alkor had been attuned sharply to the Force from the moment he began his descent onto the road of Jen'jidai, many moons before. He turned slowly and his gaze followed the minutia of every eddy, every rhythmic band of cosmic power as it coalesced around the young man's hand. It was clear that he had the willpower to master his tools, but the hubris to believe that they would not master him given the opportunity.

Once upon a time, Lahash de Fortia said to Alkor: "once blades are in hand, the time for words is gone." Dun Moch was a useful tool for disparaging the weak of mind and heart, but it was not the weapon of a Jen'jidai. Subtlety and sabotage were tools of the Sith. Honorless, self absorbed words would only serve to exacerbate the dormant rage of the fledgling Jen'jidai before him. It fell to Alkor to teach Nikias the hierarchy of his tool set. As the Hellyni stretched out his power and sent a wave of kinetic force toward the Corellian, Alkor found instantly that the Telekine had teeth.

The impact slammed into his body with a sickening crunch. He could have avoided the attack, or dismissed it as the parlor trick it was. A distraction, meant only to take him off his footing and gain an advantage. But Nikias had made a grave miscalculation.

Alkor's feet dug into the dirt as his body was torn backward by the Force. His head bowed slightly, Alkor remained in his neutral position. Pain is fuel for power.

His gaze lifted slowly to hold Nikias in dead center. Blood oozed from a nostril as the Dark Jedi reached up and, with a loud pop, forced his nose back into alignment. His face showed no sign of anger, but the air around him grew cold. The anger of a Sith- or even in rare cases, a Jedi- was a hot sensation. The Force came to life, danced, and tore reality apart in its sadistic symphony. Anger for a Jen'jidai was like winter on Hoth.

The violet blade crackled as it thrust forward, but it met with a sudden flare of bloody crimson from beneath Alkor's cloak. Trakata.

His blade batted aside the quick thrust of the paler youth's saber with startling vehemence. Sparks littered the space between them, and the acrid aroma of burnt O-zone lingered with familiarity in the air. Alkor drank in the battle in fluid time, and in turn it flowed through him.The time between his quick shunt and the strike that succeeded it was almost seamless. His blade flowed back upward and sliced diagonally- albeit shallow- from right hip to left shoulder of Nikias. Despite the fury of combat that coursed through him, Alkor maintained absolute control of his Juyo.

But could [member="Nikias"] tame his own beast?

The crunch that followed Nikias' push was one that probably would've sent an acolyte running and probably unsettle them. To Nikias it was just another sound of war, as common to him as the feeling of a lightsaber in his hand. Nikias had seen and heard much worse sounds, and experienced the pains that brought them about. His skin had been flayed, body stabbed, healed and then him and his brother would go through the torture over and over again. They were not the only ones; the screams of the other captives had engraved themselves upon Nikias' mind to never be forgotten. Alkor took pain well and Nikias didn't break eye contact as the other Dark Jedi popped the ligament back in place with another short pop. There was one thing about a broken nose, as painful as it might have been getting broken. Popping it back in place was easily the worst out of the two and Alkor had taken it like a champ.

Nikias had never seen anyone stand their ground against a force push so it was quite clear by the shocked look on his face that he had not been expecting it. Neither had he been expecting Alkor to jump right back into combat with such ease after taking the push and suffering a broken nose. The Hellyni was forced into a backpedal where his right foot took a single step back and bracing itself while Nikias' left arm came around. Nikias had dealt with offensive dervishes before and forced into a retreat. Often times it took everything he had to escape a fight once someone was in that close. It kept him from using a majority of his abilities if he didn't want to lose a limb of trying to attempt them. Thoughts speeding through his mind as fast as a podracer Nikias activated the shield built into the gauntlet on his left arm. Springing to life in its largest incarnation of 4.4 meters in diameter it was more like a wall than anything else due to the ability to completely cover Nikias' front. He hadn't meant to go to the largest setting off the bat but it had been reflex.

Even if Nikias summoned his saber back it would've taken to long and the duel could've been over. Hiding behind the wall of energy Nikias would let the lightsaber glance off the Makrosian shield before quickly deactivating it. Body shifting Nikias balled his right hand into a fist. Alkor had brought himself close enough to someone that was taller and had a greater reach making what Nikias did next easier. Focusing on his right hand Nikias formed a telekinetic bubble around it and swung at Alkor, he fully intended for the Dark Jedi to dodge or move to block the attack but if he did so the bubble would burst releasing another point blank blast but one focused on Alkor's chest. If Alkor took the hit to the face the bubble would still burst releasing a push and enhancing the strength of the punch.

It hardly startled Alkor that his strike missed its mark. If the boy had simply fallen prey to a single strike, there would be some measure of disappointment cast over his abilities. The Jen'jidai flowed instinctively through the first attack and into a second. Nikias lashed outward for a quick jab, and the wolf instantly found his prey. Alkor leaned deftly to the right and the blood colored blade lanced in a quick thrust, directly under the man's arm in an attempt to let the closeness of the superheated plasma burn the underside of the appendage. There was a muscle group in particular in close proximity to the tricep that controlled motor function. If he hit that, the arm would essentially go numb and become temporarily useless.

Whether the younger Dark Jedi realized that Alkor picked non-lethal targets or pulled strikes to prevent unnecessary death, Centaris was not concerned with it. His priority was to gauge the ability of this man while allowing him to fight to his heart's content and release some of the stress that had built up within him in recent times. Nikias had the skill of a seasoned warrior, if not of a Force Adept one. It was apparent from his instincts and from the way he cycled quickly through attack, defense, and different strategies that he had fought a decent number of battles.

Hammerstrike, the elder and more seasoned killer thought idly as the fist wreathed in force energy passed in front of his face. "No. A pale imitation," he murmured.

Those days were gone. The men he called Brothers left no legacy worthy of mention, and the likelihood of this youth teaching himself the secrets of William Reign was slim to none. If they had left anything, it was the bitterness of Alkor Centaris. He was a man with nothing but sundered knowledge and no purpose. No friends, no family, and nothing to look forward to. The galaxy now was on the verge of a Sith stranglehold, and that was enough to drive him to action.

If he could prepare even one other man to face the coming storm, he would have done his part.

Alkor dodged the punch with grace and an ease that Nikias knew he couldn't match. In this brief moment he realized his mistake for not putting distance between them when he had the chance. It all happened so quickly, the dodge of the punch followed quickly but the searing pain of Alkor's saber finding its mark. One thing about lightsaber wounds is that even light ones were painful, Nikias had been impaled by one in his ribs once and another time suffered a cut across his chest. Both times had been painful beyond all belief, and this time was no different. While Alkor had not meant to take off Nikias' arm it still felt like it from the way the saber burned through the cluster of Nikias' muscles. Following it his right arm fell limp to his side.

Once again Nik had been in a predicament but never with his right arm, it had always been his left that had been damaged. Now the limb hung at his side unresponsive no matter what he did. Hah, finally met your match have you? I can only say it is a shame that it wasn't by one of my own. Syn teased her manifestation appearing. The time during the conversations was like time stood still, but this was only the effect of the conversation taking place in Nikias' mind.

Choosing not to dignify the spirits question with an answer Nikias focused back on combat his eyes narrowing. He needed to get some space between them, and he needed to have done it from the very beginning. With his eyes narrowing Nikias would begin to create a telekinetic barrier not around himself but around Alkor, a barrier that was completely under his control. if he succeded he'd waste No time was wasted taunting, nor catching a breath. Nikias immediately propelled the barrier high into the air. Shooting it twenty feet into the air Nikias would nod his head down while taking a few steps back for good caution. Propelling the barrier with the force he sent it flying towards the ground as though it had been shot from a canon and at the last second he would shift it so Alkor would land on his chest before releasing the barrier a split second before Alkor would hit the ground.

[member="Alkor Centaris"]

In the instant his opponent stumbled, Alkor came forward. Nikas' arm slumped to his side uselessly, and Alkor's saber spun in a tight arc at his side, clockwise. In one furious, clean motion, he swept the blade downward from above and in a vicious slash toward the man's right shoulder, where it connected with the Hellyni's neck. While Nikias was taller, a lightsaber blade easily made up for distance with length. It happened so quickly, one watching might have believed Alkor to be a predatory animal.

It was at about that time when the Force began to shift around him. Alkor was acutely aware of the telekinetic effort as it encircled him, and it began to take tangible form. It would be a showndown between his bladework and the acuity of the young Knight's mind. Would the searing pain of a lightsaber digging into his chest stop the barrier altogether, or would Nikias forego the attempt to spare himself further damage? Life was ever the series of questions.

Alkor was woefully disappointed by the lack of martial training the boy had exhibited thus far. While he had an impressive command of his telekinesis, the Jen'jidai could tell that whoever had trained Nikias spent little time on actual combat. At least, combat with a Force Adept. He might get away with some of this trickery with lesser combatants in the galaxy, but a seasoned Mandalorian or a skilled Sith would put him in the dirt.

That needed to change. Nikias would learn his lesson painfully, if Alkor had anything to say about it.

[member="Nikias"]

He's going all out. Nikias thought as the crimson saber spun and came back in immediately for a second taste of Hellyni flesh. Not too eager to get scorched again or to lose his arm Nikias' right foot slid back and his shoulder leaned back. The shield upon the Hellyni's left arm was already deactivated. Alkor just wouldn't back off and give Nikias enough room to focus his abilities on the more devastating aspects of telekinesis. He was limiting Nikias to only things he could pull out of his sleeve. Somewhat litterally. There wasn't enough time for Nikias' left hand to dip into the robes and draw out ball bearings or his throwing spikes. He was even to close to release a force wave. Then it hit the Hellyni like a runaway speeder.

During his duel with Haytham and Darth Erebos, Nikias had created a whirlwind with the force to not only trap them but to also dodge their attacks at one point. The dirt beneath his feet, the very same that Alkor had used to keep his footing during the first force push was laden with rocks and moss for Nikias to build up the attack with as well. Left hand moving up it clenched into a fist and the energy meant to be creating a barrier was re-purposed and in a thought the force lashed out with enough force that the air currents shifted not creating a simple burst of concussive force but a whirlwind that ripped up the rocks and dirt. This one was aimed at trapping Alkor inside of it as well as a distraction tactic while Nikias took steps backwards. If Alkor was trapped inside the whirlwind he'd be assaulted by the same moss covered rocks that he'd been meditating near earlier and the twigs would tear at him. Nikias would take the time to retreat further putting more distance between them.

[member="Alkor Centaris"]

The Hellyni was a master telepath, or very close.

It was a type of combat Alkor could not profess to any skill with, but he understood the principles well enough. What the user could imagine, or contemplate, they could manifest. It was like having a set of hands everywhere at once. The one exploitable weakness dealt in keeping the user occupied and limiting the scope of their thoughts and concentration. Up to this point, Alkor had done more than enough of that. It was when Nikias ceased to concentrate on Alkor himself and focused nearby that it became more of a threat.

While that gave the other man an advantage in theory, it still required for him to command the Force faster than Alkor could move. Alkor took that as a challenge.

Dirt, moss, and rocks kicked up as the unseen energies began to spin around at his feet. Alkor dipped into the power around himself and drank it inward, taking the energy and making it his own. The world began to swirl like a storm around him, hurricane force kinetic energy wildly whipping in an attempt to trap the Corellian in place. Nikias wanted the opportunity to gain ground. The Jen'jidai would deny him the simple path out.

His saber ripped forward at monstrous speed. The thrust tore toward Nikias' left shoulder as he concentrated on the assault, a shiak. Alkor was effectively trapped at this point, other than the attack. After a moment, he could concentrate on breaking down the unseen entanglments- if Nikias was still set on keeping them intact.

[member="Nikias"]

Creating a whirlwind with the force was a simple task, one that was even more so than a force waves in a way. Something that Nikias had learned to use off reflex. While he could not match Alkor in lightsaber combat or out speed him in anyway Nikias could at least think faster than the attack could tag him. One of the most important lessons that a telekinetic user had to learn was to multitask mid combat. Powers like ballistakinesis required concentration on numerous rounds at once propelling and guiding them through the force. Nikias had even went so far in his learning that putting up a force shield was near second nature and had become akin to a reflex. Putting up a barrier around someone else did take Nikias longer because it was not around himself but the barrier for himself sprang to life near instantly.

The lightsaber would skirt against the shield near Nikias' shoulder and even through it he could feel the heat. That would've been bad. Nikias thought before refocusing on Alkor. After the whirlwind was created it didn't need someone to guide or control it. A force whirlwind after its creation was free to do as it wished and would eventually dissipate. Without having to worry about controlling the whirlwind Nikias’ concentration was fully on the barrier and soon propelling himself at Alkor. Nikias had used taken Ballistakinesis to the point where he had been able to propel other beings like missles. Suffice to say he became a living cannonball aimed at Alkor. It was not something many telekinetics used due to their lack of creativity. Telekinesis was one of the most versatile force powers a force user could use and while Nikias was horrible in saber combat he would not let that hinder him.
