-BACKSTORY- [WIP]

Born to a relatively nice part of the disreputable Coruscant Underworld and to a caring family of two, Jem's childhood was quite a peaceful one. Her parents were both engineers and mechanics with ties to gangs and criminals alike. She started to absorb the mindset of these people pretty fast and a curse word was the first word she ever spoke.

Growing up, Jem liked to watch as her parents were working. Fixing ships and weapon, building some bombs, stuff like that. They fixed and built just about anything illegal. It was interesting. You could never know what the two would do next.

It didn't take too long until Jem was already helping her parents out as well as she just possibly could. Most of the time she was just messing around and playing, but occasionally she really fixed ships and built small gadgets that sometimes even killed small creatures. It was the thing she enjoyed the most and also the only thing she was really good at.

Good times were coming to their end though and Jem's mother got sick and died after a few months of suffering. This left Jem with his father, who had always wanted to have a son. He loved Jem for sure, but now he had the perfect opportunity to make Jem more boy-like. So he shaved her hair, gave her a weapon and started to teach her his ways of doing his job. Jem was going to be a mechanic. An engineer. The son his father never had.

Jem's life was going fairly well in general. She was growing up fast. Because she didn't have a mother figure anymore, she was really acting and thinking like a boy. She had friends and a job. She was happy and all, but she felt like something was missing. She had always had a small thirst for thrilling experiences and it was growing fast, extremely fast, mainly because most of her friends were gang members and "not so good people" in general. She often visited bars with them and the stories they told her were the most amazing and sometimes scariest things she had ever heard. Smuggling. Shootouts with pirates. All that. So when she was around 20 years old, Jem got involved in smuggling.

The relationships her parents had with the gangs led the leaders of them to know what Jem was capable of. She was a mechanic. "A clever little girl ". She could fix broken weapons, ships, just about anything. So when she was asked to repair a ship used for smuggling drugs, Jem agreed instantly. Drugs? The black market? It sounded exciting as hell and Jem was sure she could lie her way into the ship when it would be carrying illegal drugs in it again.

By knowing the right people and by lying a lot, Jem actually managed to join the small smuggler group in the gang and got a chance to be the one flying the ship. She was the one they would blame if they got caught. She was the one they would kill if she would fail. But she was flying and it was the most important part to her. Maybe she could fly the next time too? Maybe.

The job was a success and Jem came home with no injuries. She experienced everything. Flying. Almost getting caught. Firefights. It was thrilling as all hell, but it didn't leave Jem satisfied.

After the job, Jem became an unofficial member of the gang, getting access to a small transport ship as a payment of sorts.

Nowadays, she still works on her father's workshop but spends most of her time working on her small ship. She visits bars quite often too. But the most important thing she's doing is finding out who she really is.
