HISTORICAL INFORMATION

In the times before the Rakata came, the King presided over his people fairly and justly. Of those who served him, few loved him, but all respected him. Fewer than those who loved him were those who truly understood. Those who did almost all served very closely.

Jek was born into a family of farmers. He spent most of his childhood fascinated by the works of his village smith, and when he was old enough to take up a hammer, he started to work the metal himself. By his fifteenth birthday, his mentor recognized his talents and offered his services to the royal family as a gift for the Prince on his ninth birthday.

Fearful that he might fail to please the Prince, Jek became immensely anxious and fled into the desert, where he spent ten days and ten nights praying to the Sun God, Aslu for wisdom.

In the solitude of the Desert, and on the hottest day of the year, Jek had a vision.

The waters that flowed in a nearby oasis were blessed, he recounted later. Touched by the claws of Aslu himself. He went and took water from the oasis and carried it back to the royal palace, where he then used that water to work the forge.

As he honed the metal, Jek began to understand the craft as it "spoke" in his ear, guiding his hammer and working out imperfection. The gift he gave to the Prince pleased the boy's father, and Jek was inducted into the Royal Family's Guild of Artisans.

Jek continued to hone his craft over seventy long years of life, and mastered the ability to instill the essence of the Force itself into his work. Whether fortifying the natural qualities of an object or imbuing it with supernatural power, Jek stood at the forefront of all Blacksmiths in the land as a man who could whisper to blades.

He died at the age of eighty five, days after the Prince who had become King perished in battle against the Rakata.
