In order to better secure the Jedi Temple and to provide for training even in the absence of instructors, The Green Jedi Order commissioned the creation of the JTSD. The JTSD is a duel function droid. Function 1 is to provide sparring partners for Jedi of all levels to train while at the temple or when abroad. Function 2 is to provide security at the Jedi Temples who are most often under attack by lightsaber wielding opponents. For these purposes the droids are programmed to wield a lightsaber as well as a blaster in combat. Personalized units are also made available to Jedi Knights and Jedi Masters to take with them on extended periods away from the Temple for the primary purpose of training.
