Jedi Down

Exiting hyperspace, the stars blurred back into solid objects in the view screen though the largest mass that formed before them was a planet the likes of which Nikias had never seen. Ziost, once known as the Gateway to the Sith Empire… Might as well have been gateway to the Silver Sanctum now. The Sith had been chased away from the planets that had once been their own, now the Sactum had begun claiming them for their own. Fresh off the heels of aiding the Sanctum and participating in a fleet battle, Nikias sat in the co-pilots seat of the BT-7 Thunderclap as it shot towards the planet. Nikias had never been to Ziost, but he still felt the air of malevolence as they passed into the planet’s atmosphere. With a jolt the ship rattled from the force of entry and soon enough they were flying through the skies of Ziost. As far as Nikias could see was ice, as though the entire planet was covered in it.

Reaching high into the sky was what looked to be a citadel of sorts, ice was caked upon its walls and snow piled on top of its ledges and roof. Feeling a weird draw to it Nikias tapped the shoulder of his pilot. Having seen what a Sith academy looked like and becoming personal with it when it had collapsed on him Nikias knew the design of the citadel to be Sith in nature. Now a knight, Nikias did not need to report directly to one of the Masters at the temple while in the field. Yet the rising of hairs on the back of his neck told him to do otherwise. Activating the recorder, he brought with him Nikias spoke. “Found a large citadel on the planet Ziost, we’re moving in to- “Cut off by the incessant beeping of the control panel Nikias diverted his attention.

On the sensors Nikias was picking up what could be only a distress beacon, but the transmitting frequency was odd, incredibly weak. “Head to the Southern pole of the planet. I am picking up a distress beacon.” Nikias said to the pilot who shook his head and obeyed the jedi’s orders. While not new to leading troops, Nikias was still somewhat new to leading Silver Sanctum troops. They took his orders without issue, and for that he respected them. Nikias would do his best to ensure the soldiers that had accompanied him on the mission to Ziost would make it back home.

Flying low over the trees the signal began to grow stronger the further south they went, and the more they did so the landscape shifted. No longer was it a winter wonderland but an actual forest and within that forest, barely visible to the naked eye was a city in ruins. Looking down at the display before him Nikias verified the location of the beacon. “Make a pass over that city, and then swing around to land on the outskirts.” Nikias ordered as he stared out the viewport mapping the city with his eyes. From first glances the city looked akin to a maze and almost as though it could’ve been thousands of years old. Pulling out the recorder Nikias took another note. “Change of plans, moved to southern pole of planet after picking up distress beacon.”

Pulling down into a gentle landing on the outer walls of the city and near the forest, the BT-7 powered down with the landing ramp extending. Out of it marched Nikias in the jet robes provided to him by Matsu Ike’s company, and behind him six Sanctum soldiers decked out in full body armor and with blaster rifles in their hands. A breeze blew and with it carried a scent Nikias knew all too well. The smell of blood and gore. Escaping the forest near the jedi was a sharp bark and an inhuman growl. Low and mechanical? Eyebrow raised Nikias felt the tingling of his spine telling him that something was inheritingly wrong with the situation and that he was in danger. Soon enough two more growls joined the first.

“Stang…Get the ship out of here! We’ll call you after we complete the rescue!” Nikias yelled to the pilot. Obviously the man had heard Nikias’ warning as soon enough the ramp was brought back into the ship as it jettisoned off into the sky. Not even a split second later three canine like creatures with green skin and bulbous heads exploded from the tree line. Their mouths held open in vicious snarls showing off three rows of wickedly sharp teeth stained with old blood. “Fire.” The beasts moved incredibly quick and would soon be upon Nikias and his soldiers. Lifting up his left hand Nikias pushed out with the force releasing a shove that knocked the footing from beneath the lead creature causing it to tumble to the ground with its allies trampling over it. “Fire.” Nikias commanded, even then he hadn’t really needed to give the order as the Sanctum soldiers opened up on the Neks. Blaster bolts scored hits but the beasts kept coming with a drive that surprised even Nikias.

Now realizing just what the beasts were like Nikias let them charge him as he was the main focus of their attack. The first aimed with a bite aimed at the man’s left leg. With a quick step back Nikias barely dodged it, but with a flick of his wrist his saber flew to his hand, and he brought it down on the neck of the wild beast. The head of the first Nek tumbled from its shoulders as the body fell over onto the side marking its defeat. From the husk left of its neck steam rose and the scent of burnt flesh permeated the area. Surprisingly it smelled delicious. I’ll have to look more into that. Nikias thought as he quickly pivoted on his heels and brought his left arm up this time putting more force behind his push.

At first he thought there was a chance on getting the creatures to run, now he knew there was no such hope. The wave of telekinetic energy left Nikias palm and the air shifted with it catching the remaining Nek’s full on it their faces. Hurled back by the strength behind the push the Neks rolled backwards before landing in a limp heap. Reeling back his arm Nikias threw his saber in an arc, the blade hummed as it spiraled through the air in Nikias’ grip and was guided like a missile to end the remaining Neks’ lives. Catching the hilt on its return trip Nikias deactivated the weapon and clipped it back to his hip. “Come we can’t remain here too long. If this was the welcoming party I’d hate to see what else is waiting for us.”

The stairs leading up and into the ancient city were worn, and every step that the group took could be heard cracking as though about to give away. One of the stairs even gave out right from beneath Nikias’ right foot causing him to almost stumble forward but he was able to catch himself. “The city that we are picking up the distress beacon from shows signs of extreme wear, the stairs are falling apart, and on the very outskirts of it we were assaulted by some creatures… I’ve never seen anything like them before, their skin was green and it sounded as though they were part machine. They were able to take a few blaster bolts set to kill and that is a cause for concern.” Nikias said making a quick recording. It was important to collect any and all information he could on the planet so when he returned back to the Voss Temple he could pass it on to the higher ups.

The soldiers that accompanied Nikias didn’t question him recording what they were experiencing as they had been ordered to join him and aid in anything he needed. Whatever information could be gathered on Ziost would be of use to the Sanctum. Though they did seem on edge after the short encounter with the Neks. Their heads wear on the swivel looking for any sign of movement or danger. Who could blame them? Certainly not Nikias as even he was now somewhat on edge considering they’d been attacked after not been on the planet’s surface for five minutes. Reaching the peak of the stairs Nikias and the Sanctum Soldiers stood at the entrance to the city.

There was no flashy sign to tell them what city they were in, nor any guide that welcomed Nikias and his troops to the city. What they were welcomed by was a worn walkway before them and lining the sides of it small buildings that were falling apart. Roofs had been collapsed, doorways crumbled in upon themselves and the walls had large holes in them. “What in the force happened here?” One of the soldiers asked moving up to Nikias left and examining what could’ve been a stand for tourists of some kind. At least that’s what it looked like at first with the ancient stone stools and the bar that extended from it.

“I don’t know what happened here, but stay on your guard…” Nikias said taking his first steps into the abandoned village. With each step his boots clacked against the ground, and dust was kicked up. Activating his com Nikias opened a line directly to the pilot that had dropped them off. “I need you to do a flyover and give me a reading on the signal once again as well as any life scans of the area.” Nikias said to the pilot though was answered with nothing but silence. “Repeat, I need a reading on the area.”

“Sorry Sir, I’ll get right on it. Was reporting in to the Voss Temple and passing on news about the attack.”

Sighing in relief now knowing that his message had reached the pilot Nikias turned to look into the sky. The sound of the shuttle could be heard from a distance and in an instant it came into sight flying over the village in circles like a bird of prey. “Picking up anything?”

“No… Nothing, the entire city is deserted. Change in mission? Want me to pick you up?”

“There’s no need for that, we should still search for the beacon just in case. Readings can be wrong. Pull back and find yourself a safe place to land and wait till I contact you for evac.” Nikias ordered.

“Roger!”

“Alright there were no life signs picked up by the ship, I want everyone to spread out and begin searching the city for the beacon. The moment you find it or any signs of life send a signal and we’ll converge on your position. Two man teams, and be careful. From above this place looked like a maze.” With deft accuracy and no hesitation, the soldiers followed Nikias’ orders splitting into three two man teams that began moving out. None stayed to question if Nik would require a group. He was a jedi, and while that title came with power it could be just as blinding to those that carried it. Even knowing this Nikias chose to go alone as it only made more sense. The more groups there were the faster they could accomplish their task and leave the village.

Something about the abandoned village sent a chill down Nikias’ spine and he felt as though something was inheritingly off. Not known for his abilities in the sensing department Nikias had no clue what was going on or whether the place had a dark side aura to it. Often times Nikias had been sitting right next to a force user and wouldn’t be able to feel them in the force. While each team took a direction into the maze of buildings Nikias walked his own path to the far right. The city was eerily quiet and off putting. Hairs raised on Nikias’ arms as he made his way deeper into the throng of buildings he felt as though he was being watched by someone… Or something.

Nikias had been walking five minutes checking the buildings that he passed, the current one was worn down and looked to be a home. The walls had crumbled from what Nikias thought to be time and through the large hole sunlight spilled in illuminating the deserted home. Dust littered every surface from the rusted table to the countertops. It was all like taking a step back in time for Nikias, he’d never seen a civilization such as this and wasn’t sure if there had been to many others that had either. Much less a jedi. It would’ve been more comforting to find corpses or skeletons than to find nothing at all and this created a pit in Nikias’ stomach.

Besides being worn down the city had showed no reason why anyone would abandon it. As a matter of fact it even looked like a place that one wouldn’t leave willingly from the amount of tourist buildings and shops that they had seen upon entering it. “There are currently no signs of struggle, it’s obvious that some lived here and that it was possibly a village that made its funds off tourism… Though no evidence why one would leave.” The Hellyni said into the recording device as he made his way into the last room of the home. “Could’ve died from extinction, but I highly doub-“ Stopping in the new room Nikias saw a wall with words in a unfamiliar language carved into it. The alphabet looked crude and reminded Nik of something, as though he had seen it before. Sith writing! Nikias thought rushing to the wall and brushing his hand over the writing. Dust came away in droves but soon enough the area was clean and the writing was somewhat legible.

He had known that Ziost was a Sith world, but never that it had a connection to the original Sith. The way the writing had been carved into the walls meant it had to of been centuries old. Holding up his datapad and letting it use the translating feature Nikias felt his heart speeding up. Had he just found some secret that the Sith had tried keeping to themselves and out from the jedi’s sight. But then why was it in a public home?

With the datapad currently scanning the crude Sith writing and working on a translation Nikias spent his time recording more in his journal his voice the most excited it had been in a while. “Sith writing has been found, it was engraved in a wall and covered in dust. Currently translating it, maybe it holds some type of clues as to why this city is abandoned, though I highly doubt it.” It was almost as if Nikias had forgotten the original purpose of him coming to the city. They had come in search of a rescue beacon, but his curiosity with the Sith and the village had drawn him away from the main goal. The troops are searching the village anyways. Nikias thought looking at the spinning blue circle on the datapad as it attempted to translate.

“Blasted things never work fast enough.” The last time Nikias had tried using the translation feature on Sith text a Sith lord had showed up and then proceeded to bury Nikias in the building that they had dueled in. That defeat was still fresh in his mind and just thinking about it caused his limbs to hurt. He could still feel those months he had to spend in a bacta tank recovering from the wounds. That was the old Nikias though, no longer would he allow himself to be put in such situations. Not that he planned to anyway, one couldn’t control the actions of the entire galaxy much less the forces will. Creeping along the bar beneath the circle on the datapad showed that it was about twenty-five percent done with the translation. Far longer than it had been when he was on Korriban and inside the Sith temple. “The writing must be absolutely ancient; a translation still hasn’t been crafted after five minutes. Will continue my investigation of the village in the meantime.”

No sooner than when he had exited the building Nikias saw a flash of a figure out the corner of his left eye. If it hadn’t been for the slightly increased reflexes of a jedi he wouldn’t have even noticed it. Hand reaching down and placing it on his saber Nikias took off at a sprint to try and catch whatever it was he had just seen. The size and build of it had reminded him of the Vornkr’s him and Joza Perl had once fought together. Though the speed was something that he hadn’t seen them show. With a quick shove the datapad was stashed away in the Jet robes pockets. Rounding the corner where he had seen the figure Nikias could see it take another turn. It was leading him deeper and deeper into the maze of the city. Is it trying to lead me somewhere? Nikias thought as he ran after it turning the corner. With each turn he took whatever the creature was seemed to be just there long enough for Nikias to see where it was going.

Finger reaching to his ear and activating the com to the other troops Nikias’ ear was assaulted by a mess of static. “Hello! Does anyone read me?” Nikias asked and the only answer he got was the static. This was repeated three times with each one of the two man squads that had been sent out. Not one of them had been able to answer. What sorcery is this?! Nikias’ mind screamed as he tried to contact the shuttle they had road in on… Nothing. None of them could be reached, Nikias was now separated from his team in the middle of a maze like village chasing a creature he knew nothing about. “No better place to be.” He growled continuing his pursuit however as he rounded the last corner Nikias’ feet skidded to a halt and his eyes narrowed.

At the end of the alley were three Tuk’ata, all of them looked savage their mouths hung open in what looked like smiles. Their rows of sharp teeth looked as though they’d shred not only flesh but easily crush bone between them as well. “Stang.” Nikias whispered cursing his foolish curiosity. He’d been led directly into a trap, while he had expected it somewhat he hadn’t wanted it to be true. His gold eyes stayed on the Tuk’ata, and they pawed at the ground their sharp claws scratching against it. “And here I am without any treats.” Nikias said trying to joke about the situation. Though from the growl emitted by the leader of them Nikias assumed that they didn’t understand or care.

Slowly the hounds began to creep forward barking and trying to close in on Nikias. With a quick motion Nikias drew his lightsaber in his right and lashed out with his left. Palm up and fingers extended Nikias focused his will and the force pushing out with it. The push that followed was enough to lift the Tuk’ata up and fling them into the wall where they yelped loudly before flopping to the ground. Nikias hadn’t put enough force behind the push to kill them nor did he truly want to, considering just how frail and collapsed the building around the village were he imagined they wouldn’t be to accommodating to someone who was using their abilities to blow creatures through the walls.

Unlike other jedi Nikias lacked the abilities to boost his body in the force and had put all his training into his telekinesis training beneath the likes of Ganner Rhysode’s holocron. Though that did not mean he was helpless. Activating the purple saber Nikias held it before him in a mid-guard ready to engage the creatures.

Being a jedi was more than being about some fancy force user, and Nikias knew that. He’d had to fight force users when his abilities in other aspects of it were lacking, and he’d learned a lot from those experiences. For instance, him and the sith hounds were in an alley keeping them from being able to circle around him and attack from all directions. All they could do was attack from his front and sides which made it easier to predict what actions the Tuk’ata would take. Rising to its feet the largest of the group immediately made its way for Nikias a savage roar leaving its throat. Pouncing off its hind legs and propelling itself into an arc the hound held its claws out before it to try and pin Nikias down. Reacting with the force Nikias reached out grabbing the creature in an invisible grip and with a fling of his arm threw it off to the left where it flew through the wall next to him.

Due to the frail nature of the building the rest of the wall collapsed on the creature that had the unfortunate fate of being flung into it and whimpers could be heard over the sound of falling stone. The second Tuk’ata was able to meet Nikias this time bowling into him like a speeder and sending them both tumbling to the ground. Going with the momentum and motion of the attack Nikias stabbed upwards with his saber that penetrated the underside of the second Tuk’ata’s jaw. So as their tussle came to an end the body was flung off Nikias. The final Tuk’ata didn’t quake in fear at what had happened to its allies, it instead continued to try and attack Nikias before he could get up. Large paws landed on the jedi’s chest and if it hadn’t been for the armor crafted for him he was sure the claws would’ve shredded him first.

Jaws wide the Sith hound aimed to take a chunk out of Nikias’ shoulder but instead came face to face with his shield burning the front of the hounds face off and killing it. Sighing in relief Nikias pushed the final body away from him and lay against the ground looking up at the blue sky. He wasn’t breathing heavily but recounting everything that was happening to him. Though soon enough a large green avian like creature entered his vision circling in the sky and blotting out the sun as it passed over it. “What?” Nikias said squinting his eyes and trying to better examine the creature but his attention was soon drawn by the yells of his soldiers, and they were nearby.

Upon hearing the scream of his men, the men he had promised himself that would make it home, Nikias ran for where their yells of terror were coming from. The sound of blasterbolts filled the air and even from a distance Nikias could hear a mighty roar that shook him to his core. Now was a better time than any to begin recording more as if he didn’t no one would possibly receive his warning and would fall into the same trap. “All readings on this city are false! Stay away at all costs! Just engaged some type of hound and the men of my squad are under attack as well." Without a map of the city and an inability to sense life forms Nikias was led to a dead end where from the other side he could hear the screams of two of the troops.

“What you got you son of a Nek?! What you got?!” One of the soldiers screamed as he blasted away unleashing everything he had. With no clue what was going on Nikias stared at the wall one hand placed against it.

No! He thought not willing to let his soldiers down and soon one of the screams of terror turned into one that Nikias knew all too well. The bellows of agony were something that he was well acquainted with and a sizzling that accompanied it. Similar to what he had heard when he’d had to fight an army of zombies created by a Sith.

Unable to waste any more time Nikias pulled back his left hand and lashed out with a wave of telekinetic energy that struck the wall and punched a large hole in it. Rubble went flying and now he had a clear view of what was happening and the sight etched itself upon his mind. Burning itself into the deepest recesses of Nikias’ mind, and the jedi knew he’d never be unable to see the sight. His stomach dropped off into what felt like a bottomless pit and Nikias was at a loss for words.

The scene before Nikias was something out of a horror holofilm as a giant beetle easily the size of a tank stood with its mouth open and between it one of the soldiers hung out his screams piercing the air. The armor that the man wore did nothing to protect him from the large teeth of the beetled that munched down on him and the mandibles that kept closing in stabbing sharply into the soldier’s sides. The sounds of the armor plates cracking beneath the force of the jaws was agonizing and from within the creatures’ jaws saliva spilled out that not only burned its way through the soldiers’ armor and onto him but burned holes into the ground. “By the force.” Nikias whispered in horror and a split second later the soldier that had been getting munched on disappeared down the beetles’ gullet.

“Run!” Nikias screamed to the other soldier however the man did not heed his warning or probably couldn’t hear the jedi anymore over the sounds of his blaster firing. Looking between the soldier and the beetle Nikias cursed not only the force but everything about the planet they were on. Had the beacon even been real? Had this all been the acts of a Sith aimed to kill the jedi? Nikias no longer knew and didn’t care. He had soldiers to save. Running for the giant beetle Nikias jumped as high as his body would let him and activated his saber stabbing it directly into the war beasts side. Easily penetrating the creatures shell the saber sunk all the way into it till the hilt reached its shell. Other hand gripping onto one of the spikes on the shell Nikias hung on for dear life.

Releasing a loud screech, the beetle reared back and begun shaking its big body as though trying to get Nikias off, but the jedi would not let go as he clung on and kept stabbing into the beast with his saber intent on bringing it down. “RUN!” Nikias shouted at the soldier again but it was too late, the beetle in its rage reared back its head and from between its large mouth saliva spat out in a large glob that caught the soldier full on. Instantly the armor began to sizzle and bubble as the man screamed trying to pull it off. Not averting his gaze Nikias watched as the soldier tried to pull off the armor but it bonded to his flesh. Even the helmet did so, and as the soldier pulled at it he fell over screaming and scrambling about. He did that for a few more seconds before finally his body ceased to move.

Sorrow filled Nikias for the loss of the two troops beneath his command, but more than that he felt rage at himself for failing to protect them. It had been his idea to check out the rescue beacon and already two lives had been lost. Whoever had done this would pay, and Nikias promised himself and the dead soldiers that. With a newfound strength he climbed the shell of the rampaging beetle that obviously couldn’t handle the pain of having a lightsaber sunk into it multiple times. The beetle rammed buildings knocking some down and punching holes in others while its saliva spread all around burning into the walls and ground of the village.

Finally, upon the creatures back Nikias knelt down stabbing with his saber straight into its back. Another roar left its mouth as it reared back, but Nikias simply held on and continued to stab the creature. In his mind he craved the death of the creature, he wanted it to feel the exact same pain that it had caused those that it had slaughtered. The beast no longer deserved to live in Nikias’ eyes. “Burn!” Nikias screamed as he let the creature rear back and simply held on to the saber. Sliding down the saber sliced through the entirety of the beetles back leaving an incredibly large gash and as he landed in a crouch Nikias saw the beast fall forward where its body twitched. Soon death would take it. Jaw clenched Nikias looked one last time at the soldier that had been burned by the acid before activating his com.

“Anybody hearing this message I am calling for emergency evac! Head back to the entrance of the city!” Still nothing but static but over it Nikias could hear the sound of blaster fires and the yells of his allies yet even they were hard to hear. Jumping up onto the shell of the beetle Nikias immediately jumped off of it and onto one of the roofs nearby. Climbing to his feet only now could he see the chaos that had engulfed the entire city. All around buildings began to fall apart and in the distance he could see one of his troops in the talons of one of the creatures he’d seen flying through the air.

Getting a good look at the creature Nikias took note of its large size and how it could possibly be used for a mount, but its wings were short and stubby making him wonder how it was even able to fly. The beaks were long and ended in a sharp point and between its beak Nikias saw an arm that dangled limply. “By the force… This is madness!” Nikias shouted. All around chaose had overtaken the city and he could only assume that’s where those that had been tasked to him were located. “Can anybody read me! If you can answer! Say anything!” Nikias shouted over the com… Still no answer and it tugged at his heart strings. He wouldn’t be able to save any of them. They were far to spread out and by the time he reached them it would be too late. More than that he had failed the sanctum. “None of us will make it.” He said looking on hopelessly at the beasts that assaulted the city. The off to the northern end Nikias heard a loud hiss as though it belonged to a serpent followed by a loud explosion.

Looking to the North, Nikias stared in a mix of awe and horror as numerous of the buildings in the area began to collapse in on themselves causing what he had thought to be an explosion. Clouds of dust billowed up and into the air, and as he stared he could see a large figure in the dust cloud with a sharp spine. The beast soon reared itself up and towered high over the buildings. The Ziost sun shined down on the large purple serpent making it all the more menacing as it released a mighty screech that caused all the chaos in the city to die. The serpent was a king among beasts and was easily the most horrifying creature Nikias had ever seen. Nikias had faced a rancor, Vornskr’s, Sith Hounds, and a giant acid spitting beetle. But this was on an entire new level.

A chill descended down his spine and Nikias knew it as the force warning him that he was in danger. Slowly the serpents head rolled before its green eyes landed on Nikias. Spotting the jedi the creature released another shriek before going back down and slithering across the city. Nothing could stand in its way as it tore through the buildings as though they were nothing but paper. Buildings collapsed all around as the beast approached and Nikias’ heartbeat increased. Jedi weren’t supposed to know fear were they? If so Nikias had failed in being one. Staring around there were few places he could go yet in the center of the town was a large tower that reached higher than all the other buildings. It was the only one that had not been damaged by time and stood strong. Post haste Nikias began running across the roofs of numerous homes and businesses as he tried to escape the serpent chasing him.

The architecture beneath Nikias’ feet began to fall away and crumble as the serpent drew near and the loud hiss signaled that it was close. Too fearful to cast a glance back Nikias continued his run for the temple. The doors stood wide open and inviting in a way. There was no time to consider why it was so nor why none of the beasts entered, but Nikias wouldn’t have cared anyway. Diving down from the sky one of the warbirds tried to attack Nikias with its sharp talons. They were curved and the feet of the bird aimed to impale Nikias through the chest. At the exact same time the roof beneath him gave way as the head of the war wyrm exploded through it jaws wide open to devour the jedi like he was a tasty morsel.

Jumping off the crumbling roof at the last second Nikias reached out grabbing onto the legs of the Warbird and narrowly avoided the sharpened talons. The bird cawed in raged while the serpent bellows jaws snapped shut with nothing in them. The bird Nikias held on to started to become violent trying to shake the knight off and escape his clutches. Entering a series of loops and maneuvers that made even the jedi dizzy the warbeast did its best. Hanging on for dear life Nikias cast a glance down and could see the war wyrm rearing back its head to lash out and try to make Nikias its dinner once again. Eyes widening Nikias waited for the last second and as the serpent was already lashing out to where he hung on to the warbird he released his hold on the beast.

Falling down Nikias had the perfect view of watching the serpent snap its jaws shut around the warbird before it even realized what was happening. There was no chewing, the creature was swallowed whole and with no hesitation. Gagging slightly Nikias wrapped himself in a telekinetic bubble that dispersed upon contact with the ground allowing him not to damage his knees. The jedi knight wasted no time in running for the temple hoping the serpent was too distracted with its current meal to realize that the real target was making a run for it. NOPE! The thing was too smart for its own good and refocused its eyes on Nikias as though the warbird had been the appetizer and the jedi the main course. Once again it was a game of cat and mouse, or more accurately snake and mouse as the war serpent began its chase of Nikias again.

The Hellyni’s legs pumped as fast and hard as they could, his breathing was heavy as he tried to outsprint the serpent. The lead that Nikias had once had begun to shrink by the second and so too did the one between him and the temple. The doors called out for him and beckoned to Nikias, the stairs seemed to be coated in gold and as he ran up them and reached the peak Nikias threw himself into a pounce for the door. Using the force Nikias kicked off the ground releasing a push through his legs that flung him forward like a missile and through the open doorway. Not a moment too soon the serpent ran head first into the towers entrance its bulbous head too large to fit in. Ramming at the doorway and trying to get at the jedi it screeched in rage its long tongue even extending from its mouth to grab at Nikias.

Nikias had flung himself with so much force that he hadn’t been able to control the trajectory, and arc of it. Nor did he care as long as he escaped what he thought would be a painful death. Unlike some jedi who’d just be able to flip midair and land on their feet Nikias hit the ground on his right shoulder a sharp pop accompanying it as the bone popped out of the socket. Even then he didn’t stop as he entered a few rolls across the towers tile floor. When Nik actually came to a stop his head was swimming and the pain in his shoulder tore at him. He wanted nothing more than to return to the Voss temple and hop in a bacta tank. Groaning Nik looked to the doorway where the enraged war serpent hammered its head into the wall trying to break its way in to no avail. The tower was sturdy and did not give way to the creature.

Relieved Nikias laid his head on the cool tile floor to try and rest his nerves but a soon slippery tendril felt as though it had wrapped around him. Son of a Ka- Nikias thought as he leaned up to see the long tongue of the serpent coiled around both his legs and making its way up to his waist. Looking around for his saber Nikias noticed it was no longer attached to his hip. It had somehow gotten flung loose during his escape from the sith wyrm. Frantically searching the tower for it Nik spotted the glint of the saber in the corner. The tongue of the serpent now pulled Nikias towards its wide maw waiting to eat the jedi, and at the same time Nikias summoned his saber from across the tower chamber to him. His heart pounded in his chest wondering if these would be his final moments, but as the familiar hilt landed in his palm he was reassured. Bringing it down in a chopping motion Nik sliced straight through the wyrms tongue. With a wild shriek the creature pulled back its body flailing around and its tail going wild. Buildings outside were easily destroyed by the serpent and Nikias knew it was time to go.
