Jedi ....alchemy? sorcery?

I see constantly things the Sith can force through alchemy and sorcery. I mean some of the stuff is amazing. But I never hear of these things being done by Jedi. Is there a Jedi version of alchemy and sorcery? Or is this considered bad because it's unnatural or something? Are the only things Jedi can make holocrons?

[member="Josiah Denko"] - let me rephrase, then.

The Jedi of the Republic are working on a comprehensive Light Side version of Alchemy with a full range of techniques similar or reasonably equivalent to Sith Alchemy, instead of a single one-off technique that already exists.

Alchemy does a boatload more than just make items. If we wanted to just make items, we'd just go study the Jal Shey for about five minutes and problem solved.

There's more to it - and we're going to actually do something with this.

You're correct in saying as much, Alchemy does do more than create items.

It's broken into two halves, organic and inorganic.

Both are achieveable, with enough effort, through the same ability utilized to create Frostfall. But enough derailment, [member="Ice"], the point remains that there are options for Jedi.

Different strokes for different folks.

Logically, organic alchemists fuck around with the Dark Side. You're twisting somebody's body to your will, and their mind to be able to deal with it.

Inorganic alchemy is easy to justify. Everybody needs hardened metal.

Interesting. Thanks all for the input. I was very curious and slightly thrown off by the seeming lack of "Jedi Alchemy". Good to know there is stuff coming up. :)

The real reason the Jedi do not actually use alchemy is because it is an aberration of the natural world and is thus a dark side ability. That, and every single thing forged from it is tainted with dark side energy unless painstakingly made specifically to avoid it, and even then it is weaker than the original dark side variant. Sith sorcery is a dark side ability, regardless of what anyone can come up with. It uses the pure expression of the dark side of the force, whereas the Light side is against power, due to its corruption, and does not use such things - not that it would theoretically be possible, either.
