- Specially designed for younglings: The saber has been specially designed for Younglings so that they can be trained in the basics of lightsaber wielding without risking the fatal injuries that could potentially be inflicted by a real lightsaber.
- Comes in different sizes and intensities: Since a 4 year old youngling is not the same size nor has the same level of knowledge and ability an older Youngling might have, the sabers have been created in varying sizes, weights and power to match the requirements of their future users. (even the most powerful training sabers are not yet as powerful as a true lightsaber)
- Functions underwater: Thanks to the bifurcating cyclical-ignition pulse, the saber is fully able to function underwater and allows for underwater lightsaber training.
- Reduced power: The practice lightsabers can only provoke bruises, welts and burns (to varying degrees depending on the intensity of the saber) and are nowhere near the damaging potential of a standard lightsaber.
- Training weapon: The training lightsaber is not meant to engage in practice combat with anything but blaster bolts, common weapons and other training sabers. They would be highly ineffective in a true confrontation.
With the Silent Academy on Ceto fully constructed and the influx of new Younglings to teach in the ways of the Order, the Je'daii constructed an array of training lightsabers to provide the initiates with and utilize throughout their training. Once the apprentices complete their trials and are deemed ready to become a Je'daii Padawan, they can either choose to keep their training lightsaber, modify it and transform it into the full fledged version of a lightsaber or pass it on to new younglings.
As all standard training sabers, they were designed to be considerably more harmless than the true instruments that inspire them and thus, are better suited for the teaching of those yet new to the ways of the Force and the Je'daii.
