PERSONALITY
STRENGTHS:
Mechanics and Engineering: By far their strongest asset, Jay’s knowledge of ships like freighters, passenger ships, and gunships is exceptional. They can fix many different kinds of errors within a ship’s system, both manually and through programming (with enough time), and can identify various models with little information. They also repair and modify their own robotic arm as well.
Ship-Breaking: Jay is also knowledgeable about a ship’s layout. Notably, where the most valuable and recyclable parts are located. They can identify both standard and modified equipment with just a bit of time, and have a near photographic memory with regards to this as well.
Navigation: Jay can read starmaps fairly well and can find their way from planet A to planet B easily enough.
Parkour: Jay has basic knowledge and experience with parkour, making their way up and down larger ships with relative ease as well as navigating shipyards and spaceports.
Hand Augmentations: Jay's since made a few alterations to their mechanical arm, mostly for ease of use. They have a low-res holoprojector concealed within a compartment on their wrist, along with a small repair tool similar to those on an astromech droid, although Jay can't sync up perfectly with any computer system this way.

WEAKNESSES:
Physical Strength: Jay is (very obviously) not built for strength. They have experience with physical labor, although they mostly worked with smaller details after the heavy lifting was done.
Prosthetic Arm: While their forearm and hand function normally, the mechanisms are not high-end and Jay can often be seen tinkering with it to try and stave off erosion and malfunctions from use.
Firearms: Jay has little experience with firearms, rifles more so than blasters. They can defend themself with a blaster if need be, but an all-our gunfight would most likely be a death sentence for them.
Piloting: Jay has little experience piloting a ship, and although they know the basics and inner mechanics of flying, they wouldn’t be flying through a dangerous asteroid field or piloting an X-Wing fighter anytime soon.
Self-Confidence: Jay has had some intense bouts of insecurity about his abilities in the past, and although they work against it now occasionally some second thoughts and doubts will still slip through.
Claustrophobia: Jay developed claustrophobia as a result of squeezing into tight spaces as a scrapper.

HISTORY
APPEARANCE:

You wouldn’t think too much about Jay upon first glance. Skinny as a twig and wiry as a street rat, with unkempt brown hair and dark brown eyes as sharp as steel, Jay gives off the impression of a kid who’s had to grow up on the streets of a crime-infested backwater planet. They’re a bit on the short side, but that just adds to his roguish demeanor. They’re also noticeably young, although technically an adult by human standards. Perhaps the most defining feature is his prosthetic, robotic mechanisms replacing his right hand and much of his lower arm. Its mechanisms have little coverage, although the materials are tough and well-adjusted to Jay’s work and personal life. It bothers them little, but sometimes they wish people would stop staring and asking stupid questions.

Jay wears mostly loose-fitting clothing for comfort and ease of movement, only donning more fitted clothes when they need to crawl through a ship’s underbelly to fix some faulty wires or busted filtration system. They dress practically, in neutral browns, tans, and blacks more often than not. Their boots are worn in but functional, and the gloves covering their hands are simply necessary and not a high-end look in the slightest. Jay often has bits of grease and dirt smeared on their face from their work. Jay also wears a tool belt containing basic supplies like screwdrivers and wrenches for simple everyday maintenance of their prosthetic, a blaster holster attached on one side.

BIOGRAPHY:
Jay was born on the busy spaceport planet of Terminus to a speeder repairwoman and a pilot father. Their mother, Sindra, was a constant presence in their life, while Daren was away often due to his business in transporting wares.

From a young age, Jay turned their eyes up to the sky, quickly becoming intrigued by the prospect of spaceships. However, due to their family’s lack of wealth compared to other residents and patrons, they turned towards maintenance and repair instead. They took on a laboring job as a scrapper, learning much

It was around this time that Jay experienced an accident that resulted in the amputation of his right forearm. They refuse to go into specifics no matter who asks, but they do seem to be wary around larger and sharper equipment.

Years passed by without much incident after that. Jay rose up in rank amongst the shipyard where he worked, learning how to put things together and not just taking them apart. The outer political climate may have been turbulent on the planet, but for all Jay was concerned all was calm in the galaxy. They were soon to change their mind, however.

Jay’s father had gone missing. Or, so they and Sindra thought when messages and supporting payments stopped arriving. A few weeks turned into a few months, which turned into a year, and still complete radio silence. With both Jay and Sindra working for as little pay as they were, the two began to lose hope.

With much internal debate, Jay finally decided that enough was enough, packed up their things, said a tearful goodbye to their mother, and bartered his way onto the first ship that would take him to points unknown.
