Jast Do It [Hala Jast]

HK-36

The Iron Lord Protector (Neutral Good)
[member="Hala Jast"],

An invitation has been sent to Hala Jast after the Metal Lords took notice of their advertisement looking to offer various factions civilian ships in return for helping them expand their business and profits. The offer and summon to meet with HK was a proverbial deal with the droid-devil, but the droids really needed more civilian ships in their mercantile arsenal, especially freighters. Although the droids recently begun making their own giant space hulk freighters, improved versions of the lucrehulk, they still lacked smaller more versatile ships like a modern line of civilian tramp freighters sanctioned by their droid interests.

If she was on Denon ever before, once she arrived, it would be a sight vastly different from what she could remembered. Well the planet itself would have been unchanged, still glimmering with the many industrial lights, still covered by the red and black veins of streets and buildings that covered the entire city-planet. The new addition, however, was the ring of ships encircling the planet as if laying siege to it, and the many stations being build in its orbit with hustle and bustle of smaller vessels and drones.

Hala would have been directed to dock with one of these stations and come aboard, a strange construction that almost seemed to be cobbled together from skeletons and corpses of other stellar structures, repurposed many times over and added on top of each other, like jigsaw of starship wrecks and durasteel plating woven together to form the new presence over the planet. Other systems would have probably faced similar projects as Denon was not alone in still adjusting to the new power within that sector, planets like Nubia, Loromar, and Hakassi too had similar rings of spacecraft around, they too had new spacestations and bases build around them. The droids asked for relatively little of their subjects, they did not enslaved them, they did not force them to fight for them, some did not even overthrew their previous governments. What they did ask however was one of the main reasons why they decided to lay claim on territory. An armada of new, larger ships, and a lot of them.

Moving through the spacestation Hala would have been directed towards one of the many conference rooms, passing many other droids on her way there, which currently HK claimed as his main office and base of operations within the system. The room would be fairly large, with a grand conference table in the middle with a holoprojector housed in its center, and a smaller duranium desk sitting in front of a large view screen or transparisteel, overlooking the glowing amber planet they were currently orbiting, with the other grand station now in the planet's orbit, the Space Bazaar, visible just disappearing behind the planet over in the distance.

The droids Hala passed would usually seem rather intelligent and independent, going about their day and the duties within the station, chattering with each other in quick bursts of data, although some did seem a bit off. Slightly loopy, dancing on the brink of insanity, only somewhat lucid, but then again such was usually the price when it came to droids who have not had a mind wipe in years if not centuries, quirks and data just kind of build up for them. There were few units who seemed much less intelligent, looking over their surroundings with dull cold stare, usually following other droids as their servants, or standing as silent guards within the station. They were drones, machines like droids, but with only rudimentary intelligence, more like animals than truly sentient beings. They were the answer droids had towards making large mechanical armies, yet not having the guilt over enslaving their own kind into combat legions.

And so Hala would come face to face with her potential new patron, the droid stood up from behind his desk, looking at her in silence, letting her have the first words as he judged her from behind the impassive stare of two crimson photoreceptors like flaming embers, yet cold at the same time. His face was a smoothface plate with no nose, slots for lips and mouth, two fang-like spikes protruding down from it, and the holes for those electronic eyes. It was smooth and pale like bone, yet metallic, if Hala could tell such things apart he would know it was Phrik. The rest of the droid's body seemed to have been covered in some sort of flesh-like black substance with thicker chitinous plates attached over certain regions, all of which was wrapped tightly in heavy black cloak. A Vong-shaped armor, rarely if ever seen on a droid.

Hala was the first to admit, she hated droids. She hated their efficiency and the way they walked, unthinking and purposeful. Sometimes she wondered why the hell she was even here as she wandered down the halls of the station, escorted by..... droids. It made her uneasy, beings that spoke in binary and did this and that. Very uneasy.

But she got over it. the ring of starships around the planet of Denon was gorgeous, though she could not help wondering how much scrap all that was. Probably a fortune worth of salvage. she smirked, data pad tucked under her arm, hands clasped behind her back as she stepped through the last portal, just outside HK's office.
"The Lord Protector is expecting you, Unit Designation: Hala Jast. Enter."

The droid waved towards the door in his stiff metallic manner. She complied, brushing back a lock of flaming red hair and stepping through the portal. Once she was through HK would catch sight of a smallish woman. Black vest, clean white long sleeve shirt with shoulder pockets. Red hair in a ponytail, blue trousers adorned with Corellian Bloodstripes down the side.

All capped off with a pair of shiny black boots, which she'd laboured hours on.

"Lord Protector HK-36, Hala Jast, a pleasure to meet you," She said with a small bow and grin...

"The pleasure is mine, Hala Jast,"

HK replied, returning the gesture by bowing softly towards the woman before mentioning over to the one of the two wicker chairs arranged before his duranium desk,

"Please, have a seat. I have familiarized myself with the manifesto and the intricacies of the designs you made available to me when we first spoke about possible cooperation."

He would inform Hala then, moving straight to business as the droid sat back down behind his desk,

"I would still be interested in making a deal with you and sponsoring your company's endeavors within Metal Lord space. Although our collective focuses on strong naval presence, most of it has been confined to large numbers of smaller more mobile warships, we lack in the array of civilian ships available to us, outside of hulking Commerce-Class we begun producing recently, and larger military vessels."

The droid explained,

"There is a great demand for more companies to step in and provide a greater diversity of ship designs available to us, plenty of money to be made. However, you are not the only company we have reached out in this offer, and I cannot guarantee other Metal Lords would employ your designs as well when given a choice."

HK would lean back in his chair looking over Hala,

"We do recognize efficiency and talent however, consider it a challenge, if your designs keep on being exceptional you will have edge over the competition within our sector."

Hala took her seat, unpacking a data pad or two and glancing over the top as he spoke. They needed smaller haulers was what she had gotten out of that. And then there was something else too. Ah yes, the note she had made earlier. she waited for HK to finish and then nodded, lowering the pad.

"Excellent. I believe @Lord Metallum already has designs for a few. It was he whom recommended me to you. Let me be quick and to the point. Jast Shipwright Co. is looking to expand, via new shipyard closer to the core. I'm hoping the Metal Lords are willing to furnish me a little coin via contract. Possibly in orbit of Denon?"

She paused perusing her notes.

"In return your folks will have access to all my vessels, as well as quick turn around times if you choose to outsource the maintenance and repairs to us. Now as far as smaller cargo or civilian vessels, mostly we just have the Jast Series freighters. I'm working on a line of starfighters presently. But I can take a custom order for a new line."

"Tell me Lord Protector, what exactly do you folks need as far as ships. Elaborate?"

HK shook his head slightly at Hala's first question before taking out a holoprojector with the designs of Denon Shipyards they were already working for,

"I am glad to hear that your cooperation with [member="Lord Mettallum"] is going through. I can also let you rent a portion of the Denon shipyards for your use, however I cannot allow you to take part in constructing the shipyards here. This planet and our work in its orbit is to be a symbol of cooperation between Denon and the Droid Interests who settled in this sector. I am sure you can understand then why all the work towards constructing shipyards will be done solely by Denon workers and craft droids allied with us."

He would take out another holoprojector, this time with contact details for [member="Queen Antalas"] and [member="AD-8"],

"That said, there are other Lords and planets who could use new shipyards and may be willing to employ your company to help them do so. Try to contact Queen Antalas from Nubia or perhaps Lord Admiral AD-8. As to the details about what we could use for ships, we could use about a cruiser-sized cargo freighter, and a line of smaller tramp freighters that could be docked and ferried aboard our Commerce-class Space Hulks. Warship wise we need artillery ships which would be able to take out enemy capital ships from afar, star destroyers, and star defenders."

Hala nodded again, drawing up a quick contract. Renting a portion of the yards at Denon was infinitely better than walking away with nothing.

"Of course, I understand. In the mean time I will contact both of your associates. With Jast Shipwright Co. up and running in Metal Lords space you should have access to a myriad of quick ores and materials. This helps me as well as you. Plus as things come out, we can send off 'em off to the fleet, rather than ship them all the way from Exocron."

"You are aware that Jast Ones and Twos can full-fill your tramp Freighter request already? I can draw up another dedicated Cargo liner though."

She made a few more scribbles on the Data pad.

"What portion would the Metal Lords be willing to give us of the Denon facilities? One third sound okay, or are we looking at lower Lord Protector?"

"Good, good, metal is very well needed around here."

The droid would slightly spin on his chair, turning sideways to look out of the window

"For pretty much everything."

He added with a quip before turning to look at Hala once more,

"Yes I am aware, personally I will order few of your models, some Metal Lords may ask you to rework your designs in the future as you gain access to new technology produced by us, or already in our access, to keep our ships on the edge of galactic tech."

The droid watched her scribble in her data pad, when she asked about one third of the orbital shipyards the machine gave out a mechanical,

"Hrah!"

Which didn't sound too good for her request before adding,

"I was barely able to secure a quarter for my own company I am afraid, the Denon government below us will be probably taking another quarter to a half of it for expansion of security fleets in the sector, that leaves the other quarter to a half left for commercial use. You might be looking at ten percent to start with, twenty if it goes well and you prove your company's value over time."

HK tapped the holoprojector with design of the Denon shipyards, letting it show off the future metal ring around the planet.

"Do not worry however, these will be large scale orbital shipyards, even ten percent will allow you to produce star destroyers if you would need to. We can also supplement your holdings there with auxiliary shipyard stations further out in the orbit."

[member="HK-36"]

Hala grinned. The thought of producing Star Destroyers definitely got her excited, and ten percent she could certainly handle. that was more than enough.

"Excellent. I'll contact your other associates and see about Satellite Shipyards in their own facilities. After my line of fighters in finished, I will begin making Cargo haulers at once. Do we have a deal?"

The droid would nod, reaching over the desk to Hala to offer her his hand for a shake, the chitinous armored plates shifted back, uncovering it and the black fleshy goop peeled off without leaving a trace on its own as it revealed the six spindly skeletal fingers offered to her,

"Yes, we have a deal."

HK agreed,

"There is one thing I should inform you about the Metal Lord government if you would wish to be more active within our politics. I do not see how it would benefit your position right now since you are not asking for planetary holdings among us, but within our space only Metal Lords may govern planets, and only cyborgs and droids may become a Metal Lord, with each overlooking a single system, just a planet and its moons. However, we can take up Vassals, who can be organics, to govern other planets for us under our protection. If you were to become a Vassal you would be able to lay claim to an unclaimed planet, your holdings and interests would be protected by a Metal Lord you swear vassalage to, but you would be seen as extension of their domain, you would be expected to bring reinforcements should they request, and whatever other terms you agree on."

The droid would explain to Hala,

"That is all up to you however."

[member="HK-36"]

Hala nodded. Another location would surely be beneficial. Jast Shipwrights had enough of a fleet that they could easily field a defence fleet for the Metal Lords. Plus she liked the idea of extending her holdings to an entire world.

"Could I colonize this Vassaldom with my own Organics? If so I will consider it. Please advise me as to who is seeking Vassals? I'd love to make a meeting with them, and soon."

"Well it depends on the Lord you come into agreement with, personally my requirement would be, and I would advise for, seeking out a planet with no current or very low population if you would want to do so. That way you would not have to encroach on the lands claimed by locals or deal with them if they would not like your presence."

The droid advised before pulling up a holoprojector with the map of their sectors,

"We have a lot of uninhabited planet, although most of them are barren moons, lava planets, or frozen hell holes. There is one rather scenic moon called Sarcophagus, which is entirely a graveyard for plague victims."

HK pointed out as he looked through the map of Droid Space,

"Corfai is rather nice, habitable, terrestrial, covered in ruins, Old Republic supply bunkers, used to be a center for trade and commerce in the region but no major population after the Gulag Plague and the Long Dark. There is also Cinnabar Moon, Nubia under Queen Antalas' control still has a lot of planets, most of them are either moons or lava planets, while that may sound unappealing, the amount of ores you could find there plus energy collection from lava would be really valuable to you especially among Metal Lords."

The droid explained before looking at Hala from the map,

"Pretty much any Metal Lord would be willing to take on more Vassals. I would, and have some already, I know Lord Mettallum would love to get some as well to try and close the power gap between us. Queen Antalas, like I mentioned you could settle within her system if you work together, she would be able to really support you with her resources then. Lord Admiral AD-8 also has holdings on Hakassi, a shipyard planet, if you would become his vassal that would be a second shipyard to tap into and WD-334 has Byblos, which is another industrial planet, it has drive yards however as well as weapon and technology manufacturing."

HK would list off,

"Others are still sticking to their nomadic ways pretty much but it does not mean that they would not be willing to establish a vassal to govern a set planet for them."
