---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES:
{+} Incredibly Intelligent: Evidenced by his previous job as as senior record keeper, database manager, and systems maintenance analyst at the Republic Archives on Coruscant.
{+} Possesses a Silver Tongue: He's always been able to talk his way out of trouble. Unfortunately, Death Pirate Gorlek only listens to strength. The one time he wasn't able to convince someone to see things his way just HAD to end with him in slavery.
{+} Weirdly Tolerant of Pain: Thanks to some unfortunate nerve damage suffered during one drunken night on his brief time working on Hoth, he lost sensitivity all over his body when it comes to extremes like pain. This can be a problem, however, because while he may not feel pain as easily as most, his body is still as fragile as everyone else's. So he can easily push himself too hard in his slave work because he doesn't know his feet have been rubbed raw until his knees buckle out of nowhere. He's also been known to suffer burns from holding on to hot things longer than he should.
{-} A Natural Coward: Jacota is not what one would describe as brave. He would rather avoid danger than run headlong into it. One of the reasons he has become so proficient with talking himself out of danger is because he is so terrified of violence. More specifically, violence aimed at his face.
{-} Poor Eyesight: Zelosians are already blind in the dark, but Jacota has particularly terrible eyesight thanks to his life staring at data holocron projections and maintenance screens. To help with this, he wears a pair of spectacles that also come equipped with a tiny flashlight (for the dark blindness), but he would love to get some kind of implant one day.
{-} Terrible Shot: Somewhat linked to his poor eyesight, Jacota couldn't hit anything with a blaster if his life depended on it. He swears he once hit a tauntaun between the eyes with a pebble, but no one believes the story.
APPEARANCE:
Jacota is not the most intimidating figure in the galaxy. His pale skin nearly seems translucent and plant-like (a staple of his species) on close inspection and lends to his sickly appearance despite him being in generally good health. His square jaw is narrow yet pronounced, leading to a look that could either be heroic or pathetic depending on how he carries himself. Sadly, he is looking to be more on the pathetic side these days. Jacota's wavy brunette hair is almost constantly matted with dirt and sweat from his new occupation as slave and his green eyes - which were already surrounded by dark rings from late nights working in the archives - seem to sink into their sockets from constant exhaustion. His normally meticulously groomed goatee is gradually being accompanied by a slowly growing beard over the two months since his capture.
Jacota didn't have the best posture before his capture, but now he practically hunches. A combination of overexertion and stubborn denial of his depressing situation. Despite his fragile appearance, however, the work that Death Pirate Gorlek has put him through in the past two months has greatly strengthened his body and toned his muscles. Well, about as much as two months of constant hard work can strengthen the body of someone who had previously never done manual labor in his life, that is.
In addition to his glasses, Jacota only owns one set of clothes - the one he was captured in. That set being his work clothes thanks to his boss' order to help out at the remote archive station while he was on vacation. As such, he has been wearing his white work shirt and pinstriped slacks for the past two months, both of which have become tattered and filthy. He ditched his vest some time ago and only wears his dress shoes when he needs to.
PERSONALITY:
Jacota has just about always been a sarcastic son of a gun. Sarcasm is his go-to method of dealing with misery and he can wield it like a Jedi Grand Master wields their lightsaber. This often gets him into trouble, but he can just as quickly talk his way out of said trouble (pretty much the only time he wasn't able to was when he was captured by Gorlek) and sometimes even bring his oppressor to his side. He's also insufferably fond of puns and bad jokes, usually annoying his companions to the point of actually weighing if his friendship is truly worth it. He's fond of his humor, though, and has said many times that his perfect ideal woman is one who appreciates his jokes. Sadly, he has been single for the past ten years. That isn't for the lack of trying, of course. It's just that his idea of flirting is trying to be as funny as possible around the object of his affection. Which is a good tactic as humor is a very important part of a relationship, but this is Jacota we're talking about.
When he isn't talking - which is rare - Jacota can be very studious and absorbed in his work. Especially when it comes to something he personally enjoys. It's part of the reason he climbed the ladder at the Republic archives so quickly. He can also be an incredibly loyal friend and will do just about anything to help those he cares for. Jacota isn't to quick to forgive, however. The biggest reason he didn't immediately go after his family was not his need for self preservation, but because he still hadn't forgiven them for the life they forced him into as a child.
Speaking of self preservation, Jacota is very fond of it. Part of why he's so silver-tongued is because of his desire to live. Along with that, he can also be quite the coward when the feces hits the fan. However, it is said that cowards can sometimes surprise you when it counts.
BIOGRAPHY:
Jacota was born to a large family in the smallest efficiency apartment on Coruscant. Thanks to terrible decisions by his parents in the past, they both owed an inordinate amount of credits to the Hutt Cartel and most of the money they earned went towards that debt and the Hutts' bruisers kept them from leaving the planet. So despite having four children, they were forced to live in the only place they could afford. Growing up was difficult for Jacota. It was already hard for a Zelosian to live in a place without an abundance of plant life, but his living conditions and the quality of schooling his parents could afford spelled out quite the dismal childhood for the boy. He grew to find disdain for his parents and siblings and spent his days with his head in datapads reading both fiction and non-fiction alike. Every cent he earned went towards data holocrons and datapads containing stories of heroism and wonder. Jedi fighting Sith and wars waged across entire systems. He learned more from his reading at home and between classes - and sometimes during classes - than he ever did in school.
It was through his obsession with reading that he met the man who would turn his life around. An old Zabrak librarian by the name of Sok Rel noticed him sneaking into the only portion of the Coruscant Library off limits to civilians - the Republic Archives. As Jacota was skimming a report on the Mandalorian Wars, the sound of a man clearing his throat sounded from the end of the row. Without giving it any thought, the boy sprinted away - fearing what would happen to him. However, after only a few steps he found his feet would not touch the ground. Looking down, Jacota saw his legs flailing in midair as he was held above the floor of the library wing. Eyes wide, he looked at the old former Jedi as he was pulled toward him with a wave of his robed arm. The gentle old Zabrak placed the boy on the floor and down came his hand. Jacota braced for reprimand, but none came. Instead, Sok's hand rested on the boy's shoulder, a soft smile on his face. He was asked if he liked reading. Jacota nodded. He was asked why he felt sneaking into a restricted archive was a good idea. Jacota only shook his head and shrugged. Sok sighed and escorted the boy out of the archive. Before he bade him farewell, however, the old Zabrak told him to meet him at the library the next day. Jacota was terrified, but showed up anyway. It was then that his friendship with the old former Jedi began. Sok would allow him into the archives every so often and became his teacher in history and philosophy.
Eventually, Jacota - to his parent's dismay - dropped out of school at the age of 13 to accept an apprenticeship at the Republic Archives. Jacota kept his relationship with Sok a secret out of fear that he would be targeted by his parents' debtors so to them it sounded like he had forsaken education and safety entirely. Little did they know, he was learning more than he ever would have in the run down school they put him in and he was safer with Sok than he would be at school. He began work at the archives running refreshments for his superiors and organizing entries. As menial as his tasks were, Jacota reveled in every moment. He was right where the action was, after all. Every time something significant happened in the galaxy, he knew about it before most of the population. Jacota was also able to meet people he never dreamed of getting the chance to even see at a distance. Republic generals and senators, Jedi masters, so many officials that would come in to check out records for their work. His favorite people to meet were the Jedi. Sok was once a Jedi, but he had since forsaken his vows and was ejected from the Order for a reason that Jacota to this day does not know - despite his constant prying about the subject. It was something to see a member of the order, robed and practically gliding across the marble tiles of the archive, peruse the rows. It was as if everything they did exudes presence and power. He even once saw a Jedi perform a mind trick in order to check out a record he required. When he asked Sok if he knew how to do that, the old Zabrak nodded, but then grunted in disdain.
As the years continued, Jacota rose among the employees at the archive from apprentice to page to librarian to a proper record keeper. By the age of 20, he was the one new records went to first. In his time working at the archive he also absorbed any bit of knowledge he could from the rest of the library when he had free time. He taught himself how to build and program his own gadgets and became intimately familiar with the systems the archives ran on. Jacota eventually branched out in his career to where he was also maintaining the systems for the archives and keeping their database organized and updated. By now, he had managed to move out of his parents' cramped apartment and into his own similarly modest flat near the archives, but the lack of five other roommates made it far more tolerable.
It was around this time that Jacota received an assignment to spend a month repairing the Republic Database at a military base on Hoth. it was during this stay that he got too drunk and spent a night in the cold with little more than his uniform. The record keeper was found passed out in the snow, skin blue and even more translucent than usual. He was rushed to the medical center at the base and they managed to save his life, but at the cost of severe nerve damage all over his skin. Since then, Jacota has sworn off drinking. Except for special occasions, of course.
It was also during this job that his parents had stepped out of line with the Hutts by attempting to leave Coruscant. Possibly inspired by their son's recent trip. Unfortunately, they did not have official Republic clearance to leave like Jacota did and were cornered by thugs paid by the Cartel. His parents and siblings were taken to Nar Shaddaa while he was on Hoth. Since his return, people in the pocket of the Hutts have tried to get to him only to be cleverly turned away either by Jacota's gift of making people see his way of thinking or Sok's Jedi mysticism. The young record keeper has been conflicted since learning of his family's kidnapping - and possible death - on whether or not he should do something to save them. They never did anything for him so why should he help them? Sok would advise him that if he were to do anything it should be done when he had the resources to make a difference. It was foolish to fly to Nar Shaddaa and attempt to save his family on his own and the old former Jedi continued to insist that he was far too out of practice to do anything to help. Jacota didn't realize that the old Zabrak could have done something, but his ward's family meant nothing to him. All he cared about was if Jacota was safe. He most certainly was safe. Until one night two months ago.
Jacota had been given a week of well earned vacation and he decided to use it on a trip to a beach resort on Borleias. Sok feared that leaving Coruscant was too risky in his situation, but the record keeper insisted that it had been four years since his family was taken. If the Hutts wanted him they'd have managed to capture him by then. Unfortunately, Sok's prediction came true and the resort was attacked by the Death Pirate Gorlek a Gamorrean pirate who worked for the Hutts. Jacota, along with some other resort goers, were abducted and forced into slave labor. However, Gorlek was not aware of who he had captured. If he was then he would have immediately flown to Nar Shaddaa and sold Jacota to the Hutts. It has been two months since Jacota's sudden change of occupation and it is only a matter of time before his owner realizes who he is. Sok is currently searching for his ward, but there is no telling how successful he will be in finding him. Or how successful he will be in escaping Nar Shaddaa once he finds that Jacota isn't there.

EQUIPMENT:
- Data Specs: A pair of glasses that use transparisteel lenses for the dual purpose of correcting vision impairments and displaying information for the wearer to read. They can be installed with several applications and used for a wide variety of situations. To help with his dark blindness inherent with his species, Jacota's specs have a mini flashlight installed on the temples along with an infra-red view mode. Unfortunately, when the infra-red mode is active it uses so much of the specs' memory that he has to turn off the standard vision correcting application. So while he can see heat signatures with it, it's fuzzy and not quite as useful as it sounds.
- Comlink Watch: Jacota's personal comlink is his favorite possession (since he doesn't have many possessions anymore) because he built it himself. It's a one-of-a-kind holo comlink that straps to his wrist. The face of the watch tells time and also projects the hologram of whomever he is speaking to while the scanner in the band of the watch records him to be displayed on the other party's end. Unfortunately, it is currently in the possession of Gorlek's right hand A'tunda. Jacota has vowed to get it back if he ever manages to escape.
SHIP:
He doesn't own a ship, but the ship he calls home is the Dreadcutter, Death Pirate Gorlek's personal frigate.
