Character Jaa Kilian - Mercenary Captain

NAME: Jaa Kilian

FACTION: Brawler Mercenary Company (Formerly Shadow Association)

RANK: Captain (CEO and Head of the BMC)

SPECIES: Human (Axxilan)

AGE: 46 (Standard Coruscanti)

SEX: Male

HEIGHT: 1.8 Meters

WEIGHT: 95 Kilograms

EYES: Dark Green

HAIR: Dark Brown, beginning to Grey.

SKIN: White.

FORCE SENSITIVE: No.

STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES (Required: 2 Weaknesses Minimum) :

Strengths:
- Shrewd: Jaa may be a Captain, but he was a businessman first. Jaa once negotiated billion-credit contracts in his time as a merchant, and now negotiate ten-billion contracts as a mercenary. It is difficult to put him at a disadvantage in a negotiation, and harder still to trick him when it comes to monetary gain.
- Intelligent: Jaa was raised to be a scholar, a merchant, and a politician in his time on Axxila. Though he had taken to a far less... glorious line of work, Jaa's mind is as sharp as it was in his earlier years. From history to philosophy, to mathematics and sciences; Jaa Kilian is a truly Renaissance Man (if he knew what that was, of course.)
- Experienced Commander: For the last two decades (and some change) Jaa has been in command of numerous ships of varying sizes. He has fought pirates, enterprising military officers, planetary defence forces, rebels, and terrorists form one end of the galaxy to the other. Jaa can lead and command as well as any contemporary officer and understands every aspect of his ships' combat abilities.

Neutral (Good or Bad, depending on the situation):
- Immoral:
Jaa is neither evil nor good, rather he is a man propelled by profit. While he does not particularly favour the committing of war crimes or senselessly murdering civilians, payment can be a powerful motivator.
- Manager: Imagine the most nosy, micro-managing, holier-than-thou manager you have ever had in your life. Jaa is that and far worse. Everything must happen as he has planned or ordered, or it will cause Jaa to stop everything to ensure his machinations are followed, for better or for worse.
- Media Personality: Mercenary work is hardly the most flashy pursuit, yet Jaa Kilian pursues notoriety with an almost fanatic desire. Though it may lead the ageing Captain taking more... egregious decisions in combat or during a job, he knows how to play the media.

Weaknesses:
- Egocentric: An educated, shrewd, and experienced officer? Was there any other conclusion that could be found? Jaa's ego is second in size only to his greed and may cause him to insult employees, anger employers, or enrage government officials.
- Physically Lacking: Jaa Kilian is an ageing man, with a ever fattening physique and hands-off approach to combat. Jaa would sooner do charity work without the news reporting on it than fight with a blaster himself.

APPEARANCE:
Jaa Kilian is as forgettable a human as one can expect, at least physically. He is both below average in height, yet above average in weight. His plain, clean-shaven face is one easily forgotten in a crowd, perhaps only recognisable thanks to his grey military uniform, one reminiscent of the long-gone Galactic Empire.

The vagaries of time have not been kind to the Captain; lines of stress crisscross his face, not helped by the permanent frown he favours in most instances (outside of the rare media appearance, of course.) His hair continues to take a salt-and-pepper appearance, something he bemoans with silent contempt.

BIOGRAPHY:

A flagship and a wealth of credits; the life of Jaa Kilian was all that a Mercenary could hope for. Yet, life was not always so easy for the Mercenary Captain. There was a time when even he was unsure of where his next credit would come from; where even he could doubt the loyalty of his hardy crew. Hard to believe, I'm sure.

Jaa Kilian, long before he became Captain of the Brawler, was born to a family of mid-level administrators on Axxila. Unlike the story of other famous mercenaries, vicious Bounty Hunters, or infamous warlords, Jaa had a fairly normal life. As the youngest of three sons and two daughters, Jaa was expected to join the military. His outlook was dull, his social climber parents perfectly willing to push him off on a nanny at the earliest convenience. It was here, under the tutelage of a family servant, that the wanderlust of young Jaa began to take form.

During his primary and secondary schooling, Jaa proved to be an intelligent, if easily distracted student, often getting himself into trouble with his idle mind. Despite this, Jaa had decently high grades and managed to secure a spot at a prestigious post-secondary school. It was there that he learned the ins and outs of business, skills that would help him in the years to come. Jaa met his first and only love in the halls of the campus, one Jamia Ferra, a fellow Axxilan student of business. Though their love was short-lived, Jaa remembers it fondly even in his old age. It was the day he left that would be the last day the two young lovers would meet, which is perhaps the reason he never pursued another: Jaa was raised on classical stories of fate.

Immediately out of school, Jaa followed the wishes of his distant family and joined the Axxilan navy, independent of the local warlord's forces. The Axxilan navy was primarily focused on anti-pirate operations and harassment duties of hostile vanguard fleets. Under these conditions, Jaa proved to be a successful and competent officer. However, Jaa found himself restricted in the military and chaffed under the command of another (the poor pay was also a great concern).

It is no small surprise that when his commission came to an end, Jaa left Axxila with his ship, effectively stealing a cruiser from the Axxilan military. The next few years of his life are a blur, seeing the young officer jumping from one job to another surrounded by an ever-changing cast of increasingly less trustworthy compatriots. In time, he found himself under the wing of the EOC, or the Extenuating Operations Company. Hardly a worthy name of a mercenary company, but it was here that Jaa truly began to come into his own.

The succeeding years served as Jaa crucible, and through this baptism of contracts and fire, he became the hardened, grizzled officer that he is today. It was under the EOC that he became the commander of a retrofit Victory-1 Class Star Destroyer, then named the Torment, the ship that would serve as his companion until long after the EOC and into the present. Jaa fought from one end of the galaxy to the other under a dozen different banners or for a dozen more creeds. Where his earlier years were marred by poor pay and constantly watching his back, Jaa finally found himself surrounded by loyal mercenaries all with the same drive as him: profit. Finally, it seemed the galaxy was looking marginally brighter for Jaa.

Alas, even the best things must come to an end. The EOC, as was eventual, managed to get on the wrong side of a rival company which led to their destruction and violent dissolution. This was where Jaa's career should have ended, a cold corpse floating alongside the wreckage of his ruined cruiser. However, Jaa had a plan.

Jaa always has a plan.

Through means hardly legal or moral, Jaa learned of the impending purge of the EOC. The wind was blowing against him now, so Jaa moved with it. Mere days before the planned ambush, Jaa cut all ties with the EOC and made a very public and loud break with them. He claimed a long list of unpaid dues and slights, much to the confusion of the EOC leadership who had treated Jaa fairly and viewed him as a high ranking and veteran member. Their confusion was shortlived, as all died shortly thereafter.

The death of the EOC led to the next step in Jaa's life. Though he had publicly split from the EOC, he still feared retribution from the rival company or surviving former compatriots. The Torment became the Brawler, and so began the Brawler Mercenary Company.

During the time of the BMC, very little changed. Jaa was now the sole head of a mercenary company, answering only to his own pocketbook and those of his direct subordinates. While hardly the most powerful or famous company, Jaa's name was spread far and wide in the underworld as a competent and loyal PMC. It was not uncommon for him to be given command of other mercenaries or small fleets when on a job, and the red fist of his company (their logo, a red first circled by a similarly coloured gear) became synonymous with competence in the outer rim.

To this day, Jaa serves as a mercenary, moving from one job to another in an ever changing array of loyalties and employers. Who knows what the future holds for the enterprising Captain, but what Jaa does know is that it will be profitable and damn fun.

SHIPS:
Brawler-II | Adjudicator-Class Heavy Cruiser | Flagship
Formerly belonging to the Shadow Association. Following the Byss Standoff, Jaa Kilian neglected to return the Brawler-II, opting instead to flee the system and abandoning Sularen's loyalists aboard the ship somewhere in the Outer Rim. With his new ship, Jaa Kilian has vastly increased the fighting capabilities of his mercenary company, allowing a greater degree of missions on non-aligned and hotly contested worlds alike.

Brawler | Victory I-Class Star Destroyer
The former flagship of Jaa Kilian, replaced in the events leading up to the Byss Standoff. The Brawler had served as Jaa Killian's ship for decades across numerous missions. However, its age meant that it was unable to participate in the operations in the Byss System. Since his leaving of the Shadow Association, Kilian uses his old flagship to expand his reach in less important or dangerous systems where the older ship is under less danger.

KILLS:
None.

BOUNTIES COLLECTED:
None.

ROLE-PLAYS:
Fool Me Once - Kilian acted as reinforcements on behalf of Marlon Sularen in the event of an all-out conflict. Though he engaged a detachment of the Duros forces, his part in the battle was minor at best.
