Grumpy Goat
Intent: To develop a new system for CEC sales based on a combination of restrainer bolt and slave circuit technology
Development Thread: N/A
Manufacturer: Corellian Engineering Corporation
Model: J9 Remote Command System
Affiliation: Open Market
Modularity: Limited
Production: Mass Produced / Limited Production
Material: Durasteel
Description:
The J9 Remote Command System is, first and foremost, a slave rigging system. The name was chosen to give it a more civilized air, but its function and purpose are clear.
To start there are two variants of the J9, the J9a and the J9b, and each of those variants has two major parts; the transceiver and the command signal.
The J9a is the more common variant, designed for use in virtually any droid, vehicle, or ship. Tapping directly into the onboard controls, the J9a works by communicating with an in-system command post, be it a military base, vehicle, or ship. In the case of the command post being a ship, it is recommended that orbit is maintained over the planet as latency increases the further out from the operations theater the command signal gets. Remote control can be overridden if a pilot is present in the vehicle or ship to deactivate the J9a system.
Little about the J9a is revolutionary. It allows a few, dozens, or hundreds of units to be slaved to a single command post for coordination and operation. Remote commands are somewhat limited, mostly reduced to the likes of 'Attack', 'Retreat', or 'Hold Position'. Complex maneuvers are beyond the J9a systems, so care should be handled with military deployments. As well, should the J9a's command post be destroyed, all slaved units will fall inert unless pilots are present to take manual control.
The other version of the J9, the J9b, is different. Considerably smaller than the J9a, able to fit inside of a closed fist versus an arm-sized module, the J9b is a more sinister and oppressive remote command system. Once installed, the J9b aggressively takes control of the droid, vehicle, or ship in question (Note that capital ships would have to have dozens or hundreds of these installed to achieve the projected effect, depending on the size of the ship). Once control is achieved, the J9b cannot be disabled except through manual destruction. It does not possess an 'off' switch. Beyond that, it functions much like the J9a in regards to control, though operation range is extended greatly if the possessed vehicle or ship in question has long-range communications or Holonet access.
Because of the potential for abuse, the J9b is categorized as a military product and sales are strictly controlled and recorded.
