Biography
Early Life
Ivy Maro was born on the Core World of Tepasi, where she was raised by her parents alongside one younger sister, in a city called Bospa. As an adult, Maro would look back on her childhood to describe it as being fortunately uneventful and fairly privileged, growing up in an upper middle-class household and sheltered from most harms of poverty and crime in society.
Although Maro displayed signs of Force sensitivity from an early age, her family discouraged her from taking any interest in the Force. Instead, Maro was encouraged to follow after her mother’s footsteps and pursue a more respectable career in the medical science field, eventually earning her degree and working as a medical technologist.
For years, Maro suppressed her connection to the Force, believing that her career would provide her with purpose in fulfilling her parents’ expectations. However, following a devastating romantic heartbreak at the age of 30, Maro experienced a profound personal crisis that forced her to reevaluate her life and identity.
Feeling disconnected from family and needing some space to “find herself” again, Maro left Tepasi and legally changed her name to Ivy Maro, symbolically severing ties with her past in search of a new purpose.
Discovering the Jedi
Maro spent months researching various Force traditions through galactic holoforums before encountering discussions about a Jedi enclave on Kattada. Intrigued, she traveled to the enclave, where she met members of the Jedi Order for the first time.
Though she refused to join the Order’s membership, Maro became fascinated by the Jedi teachings and began studying them independently, immersing herself in Jedi life while providing her services as a medical technologist for the Jedi Exploration Corps. She volunteered alongside the enclave, observed Jedi training whenever permitted, and accompanied them on expeditions, shadowing their activities.
During a Jedi crystal gathering, the Force unexpectedly guided a kyber crystal toward Maro, who initially joined the group as an observer but ended up constructing her first lightsaber shortly afterward, deepening her silent commitment to the Jedi path.
Military Service
While working for the Jedi Exploration Corps, Maro continued searching for her purpose and sought opportunities beyond the confines of her medical science degree. With financial assistance from the Exploration Corps, Maro enrolled in a naval academy and became a starfighter pilot for the High Republic Defense Fleet.
Maro’s willingness to serve and help those in need earned her respect among those she assisted. However, beneath her adventurous spirit was a growing exhaustion with the galaxy around her. While highly intelligent and deeply compassionate, Maro frequently used humor, laziness, and feigned incompetence to avoid unwanted responsibility or emotional vulnerability.
Joining the Jedi Order
For nearly two years after encountering the Jedi on Kattada, Maro remained uncertain about formally joining the Order. In practice, she had already begun living as a Jedi, but resisted accepting the title. Her perspective changed after forming a bond with the Jedi younglings and discovering the Jedi creche system. The connection she found with children awakened a sense of purpose she had long been searching for.
Drawing from her scientific background, Maro conducted voluntary midi-chlorian blood analyses for Force-sensitive children and assisted the Jedi Archives in maintaining records concerning newly identified Force-sensitive individuals throughout the galaxy.
Wherever Force-sensitive children were found, Maro often followed—whether assisting young refugees during wartime, preparing meals in Jedi temple kitchens, or accompanying younglings during kyber crystal gatherings. She became a familiar sight within Jedi communities, rarely seen without at least one youngling at her side.
Appearance and Personality
Standing 1.52 meters (5 feet) tall and weighing approximately 41 kilograms (90 pounds), Maro was a petite figure whose cheerful personality earned her the nickname "Sunshine." She had a freckled tan complexion, green-hazel eyes, and dark brown wavy hair streaked with silver that reached the middle of her back. Her slightly pointed ears reflected traces of her non-Human ancestry.
Despite her small stature, Maro carried herself with quiet confidence and an optimistic expression. Her bright face and bubbly personality often caused others to underestimate her age and experience.
Although widely regarded as exceptionally kind, optimistic, and approachable, Maro deliberately cultivated an image of harmless eccentricity. Beneath her warmth was a highly analytical, guarded individual who had developed a cautious view of the galaxy after years of hardship. Her kindness was genuine, but it existed alongside a deep awareness of corruption, suffering, and moral uncertainty.
Equipment
As a Jedi creche-keeper, Maro adopted traditional Jedi temple robes consisting of cream, beige, and tan fabrics. Her tabards incorporated pastel blue and pink accents, symbolizing her nurturing vocation as a youngling caretaker. She commonly wore her hair in an elaborate if not messily braided updo, allowing the younglings under her care to help fix her hair and decorate it with flowers plucked from the Jedi Temple gardens.
Despite embracing Jedi ideals, Maro retained a pragmatic, Sentinel-like philosophy toward survival. In foreign settings beyond the Temple, she often carried a blaster pistol, a few utility knives, and a multifunctional vambrace equipped with a comlink and personal combat shield, resorting to a variety of weapons in combat.
Her secret combat discipline was Trakata, employing strategic activation and deactivation of her lightsaber during combat—a controversial technique many Jedi considered dishonorable due to its deceptive nature. Maro nevertheless defended its use when it meant protecting herself and other innocent lives, believing survival and compassion should take precedence over tradition.
Legacy
Among Jedi younglings, Maro was remembered as a beloved caretaker for her humor, practicality, and mischievous spirit. Children trusted her because she treated them not merely as future Jedi, but as individuals with their own fears, dreams, and personalities.
- “It is never too late to start again.”
- "Patience and perseverance are the keys to success in life."
- "Everything has its time and season."
- "Always be ready to listen to the call of the Force."
Maro embodied the Order's central ideals in her own way: through compassion, curiosity, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to protecting the next generation of Force users.

THEME | VOICE |
Ivy Maro emerged in the year 900 ABY. A new name for a new life, after a devastating romantic heartbreak tore her from her first, leaving her past and family behind to find herself and something more, as a Jedi. In addition to the military, Ivy is partnered with several local law enforcement and private research and science teams. Just about your average Jedi of all trades who can get the job done in a pinch. Getting it done right, however, is debatable.
Her ears are slightly pointed, a conspicuous remnant of Ivy's non-Human lineage. Greenish hazel eyes; a freckled, tan complexion; and dark brown, wavy hair streaked with silver that falls to her middle back. Ivy tends to carry herself tall with quiet confidence and a perky smile. Most people see her as having a bright, attentive face that makes her look fun and approachable, assuming younger than her age which is somewhere in her 30s.
She keeps a blaster pistol and a knife or two on hand for protection. A vambrace worn on her left arm functions as a comlink and personal combat shield.
Her lightsaber blade is an unusual black core. Once an ordinary blue kyber crystal, so great was Ivy's sorrow and depression during her trials as a Jedi Initiate, working through past trauma, that the heart of her crystal turned black, reflecting the dark, empty and chaotic hole inside her from grief. The crystal bears the scars for her, a reminder of Ivy's former life, reborn from darkness into light, to the Jedi she is today.
Well, maybe a toe in the darkness still. Trakata is her speciality, honor be damned.
