Light
Aiden's expression softened, the humor in his eyes fading into something steadier warmer. He tilted his head slightly, the kind of gesture that said he was listening even before he spoke.
"Hey." he said quietly, his voice carrying that calm steadiness that came from too many battles and lessons learned the hard way. "We all stumble through things we don't talk about right away. The fact that you can even say you're in a better place now? That means something."
He paused, glancing toward the horizon as though searching for the right words in the glow of the setting sun. "I've learned the same lesson more times than I care to admit that peace doesn't always come easy. Sometimes it's just… showing up. Trying again."
Then his gaze returned to Michael, a small but sincere smile pulling at his lips. "You've done that. Don't sell it short."
Aiden's lips twitched despite himself, though he tried unsuccessfully to suppress the faint grin tugging at the corner of his mouth. The flicker of amusement quickly gave way to exasperation.
He folded his arms and leaned closer to Roman, lowering his voice in turn.
"Roman." he muttered, half in disbelief, half in jest. "Not every woman I talk to ends up being one of my girlfriends. Besides, I got to leave some for you right? Other than the stablegirls?"
